Stitching is done on “can i lick it?”
Tonight I’ll wash it and finish it in the pretty wooden hoop.
Stained glass monsters by Oksana Belay from Khabarovsk.
I saw a post featuring their work many, many years ago on tumblr, then found the etsy store and started to make orders. Then COVID-time started and we lost touch with the artist in June 2021 (and then the whole ongoing war part of the equation...).
Anyways... we really like the monsters and wish we could buy everything that was available. If you picked up one (or some) and want to sell them, get in touch! Maybe we can make a deal.
Hello everyone! Me and some friends are selling pride stickers and doing a series on the history of how these flags look the way they are today!
+ Learn about the history of these flags here. + If you want these stickers for your own, visit our etsy shop here and use the code NINJA for a discount through the rest of pride month!

In fact, it’s the other way around. These numbers show a tariff war makes no sense.
U.S. president-elect Donald Trump has pledged to impose immediate across-the-board 25 per cent tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, even higher tariffs on China and tariffs on other countries as well. He says they will start with executive orders on Monday, his inauguration day. Initially, these threats were interpreted as a strategy to exert leverage over other countries on a range of trade and non-trade matters, from border issues to defence spending to taxes and regulations on U.S.-based tech giants. That may have been wishful thinking, because Trump’s rhetoric has now turned more ominous. Reports suggest he may invoke a “national economic emergency” to activate special presidential powers. And he has spoken of using “economic force” to effectively annex Canada, as part of a broader strategy of territorial expansion (potentially including Greenland, Mexico and Panama).

A trio of bills affecting transgender people in Alberta have passed the final stage of debate in the legislature and are set to become law.
After a trio of bills affecting transgender people in Alberta passed the final stage of debate in the legislature, a pair of 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy groups have said they're moving ahead with legal action in response, calling the legislation discriminatory. The Education Amendment Act, 2024, the Health Statutes Amendment Act and the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, first announced by Premier Danielle Smith in a provincewide video address in January, are set to become law. National advocacy group Egale Canada and the Alberta-based Skipping Stone Foundation confirmed Wednesday their intent to pursue legal action in response, arguing the legislation violates the constitutional rights of young 2SLGBTQ+ people.

Disgusting that Smith compared not allowing kids to transition to not allowing kids to drink and smoke, like being trans is something harmful to your health. And of course the hand wringing about kids damaging their fertility 🙄
In the autumn of 1883, a paper in the nation's capital reported that "an Iowa woman has spent 7 years embroidering the solar system on a quilt" — to teach astronomy in an era when women could not attend college. Her story.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s government recently tabled three bills targeting trans youth’s education, health care and sports participation. If passed, these ill-considered bills — the Education Amendment Act, the Health Statutes Amendment Act and the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act — could make all Albertan youth unsafe. Smith has said the bills are aimed at protecting youth from harm, but the proposed laws have already met significant condemnation since they were announced in February. The government’s restrictions on gender-affirming care were decried by the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Paediatric Society, the Alberta Medical Association and more than 80 other organizations across Canada.

Alberta's premier shared new details Tuesday about her government's proposed gender legislation.
Alberta's premier shared new details Tuesday about her government's proposed gender legislation. Danielle Smith will introduce it when the Alberta legislature's fall session starts near the end of October. In a six-minute video posted to social media, Smith went over the points of her policy, much of which has already been released. One new detail involves 16- and 17-year-olds choosing to use a different name or pronoun at school. "In those extremely rare circumstances where a teacher feels that a child might be at risk should the parents be notified of a desired name or pronoun change, Alberta Education will provide a protocol to ensure the protection of that child throughout the parental notification process," Smith said in the video.

Smug bigot. She absolutely knows this will kill trans kids, just like her drug policy is killing addicts.
'in those extremely rare circumstances'. They aren't rare. They're just not.
It's not uncommon to be rejected or abused or kicked out by your parents or family if you come out as trans, let alone any kind of queer. This is going to kill children, either by suicide or abuse / homelessness and the host of issues that come from being outed.
I hate this bitch so much you have no idea. Everything out of her mouth has been a problem.
If a child hasn't come out to their parents, there is a damn good reason. Children know when their guardians are not safe to be open with. If they were safe, they'd know immediately.
Anyway I'm certain there's organizations out there that will do their best to protect the children caught in the fallout of this bullshit. I'll be looking out for places to volunteer. Just because a government wants trans children suffering and dead doesn't mean we all do, and we can do a lot to help keep these kids safe if and when they are let down by those who should be there for them.

A former Conservative MP who says he left the party because of his "convictions" claims that the number of anti-abortion Conservative members of Parliament is growing, and that anti-abortion activists have influence within the party apparatus. Richmond-Arthabaska MP Alain Rayes made the comments in a new documentary, "La peur au ventre," directed by Quebec filmmaker Léa Clermont-Dion, which explores the anti-abortion movement in Canada following the reversal of Roe v. Wade in the United States. "I left the Conservative Party for reasons of values and convictions," he said in French. "What I noticed was an increase in the number of pro-life MPs inside the organization." Rayes sits as an Independent. He left the Conservative caucus shortly after Pierre Poilievre was elected party leader.
