Me explaining plants to my mom: When the succulent grows babies, you gotta take them out or else they’ll smother the mother

🌱Some helpful tips to keep healthy house plants🌱
This is Spike! Spike likes chocolate and gossiping. He spends most of his time hanging out with his sempervivum buddies, basking in the sunlight.
Spike was repotted with a 1/2 succulent soil, 1/4 perlite, and 1/4 pumice mix. His favorite bugs are spiders.
Want to see more of Spike’s friends? Follow me! And, if you’re on Twitter, Spike was introduced there first!
So you’ve had your first succulent for a few weeks now, and you’re starting to wonder if you’re killing it.
Stop and think about how you’ve been watering it. Have you been waiting until the soil is completely dry before watering it?
If not, stop watering it. Watch it for a couple days- if you see any blackening, it’s root rot. Cut it above the rot- dip the wound in some cinnamon, and put the plant in *dry* soil, and wait at least a week (preferably two) before you water it again. (Water propagation is also successful!)
If you don’t see any black, just keep watching it. After about two weeks, go ahead and water it!
Questions? Just ask! But if you need advice for a specific plant, I’ll need pictures!
And remember, the world needs more kindness. 💜🌵💜
Hey, I’m Alisha. I have a few hundred succulents and various houseplants. I also have a vegetable garden.
I’ve started a blog at housejungle.org but be gentle, it’s new!
I’ve also started a Twitter, also named succsdale, that will follow along my plants’ lives, drama, passions, and adventures.
Here on Tumblr, I’ll post some succulent care tips, as well as some more personal flair. And once you get to know me, you’ll know that flair takes the shape of random history facts, latte art, my 2 year old son, and succulents!
And of course, my Instagram is all about my succulents! Cacti_are_succulents is my insta.
Whatever appeals to you, find that platform and give my plants (and me!) a follow! And today, I ask that you be kind. 💜🌵💜
