as she attempts to convey a bout of confusion, he knows better than to fall for it — she had a lot of tricks up that sleeve of hers he could admire, it was humorous despite the act of knowing otherwise. " you might be having a laugh now but the last photo i seen would have me concerned for the next five years ahead if i were him. " if she wanted the photo he would be happy to provide during the time between taking a hit from the joint passed back to him. " like a charm. " he responds almost cooly with a smirk to himself. three times, third person, the joke lined itself up. he used to be first in line constantly tell her she was a pain in the ass with full meaning and fondness attached, it was a relief to know she was still very much the same scottie. " vindicated almost. " he looks to her with an arch of his brow lightly the corners of his mouth lifting to a smile as he exhales the smoke, passing it back to her. your turn. though he figured she could keep it, needing it much more than he did. " i'm sorry about gabby by the way. "
this was another thing about sylas she could count on, his levity. matching her own, it was one of the things that brought them together in the first place. " they say the monarchy sucks the life outta ya. bet you're feeling lucky to be a commoner right about now, huh ? " the tease leaves with a smirk. " yes, yes, we all know i'm a brat, whatever. " her eyes roll with much exaggeration. though she didn't take offense. scottie knew who she was. her shoulders shrug while taking her next pull. at this point, the only constant thing in her life was loss. it had been a while though, ever since ending up in grimmvale things had felt more permanent. nothing lost here was so final. because, to some degree, she lost him. but here sylas was, standing in front of her in the flesh and for a moment she let herself find comfort in that. " no one lives forever. but....thank you. " the gratitude was much quieter. barely above a whisper. her nose twitches and sniffs a bit, refusing to let the tears breach the surface. " least she isn't stuck in this shit hole anymore. "
Jake looked over at Matilda, following her gaze down to his battered hand. The corner of his mouth tugged into the faintest smirk—crooked, familiar, like this was nothing new. Then, he turned his calloused hand over like he was finally getting a good look at the damage for himself. He flexed his fingers once, then twice, the dull ache barely registering to him anymore.
"Sumthin’' like that." His blue eyes lifted back to Matilda, carrying a familiar teasing glint. "Blender woulda put up a helluva lot more of a fight though." Jake added, his shoulders lifting into a shrug. Before she could hit him with the lecture he figured was coming, he snagged a beer from the six-pack resting near his boot, then popped the cap open against the edge of the tire well.
"Here," He held the bottle out toward her without asking if she wanted one. "Already got a treatment plan, Doc."
her head shakes in mock disbelief while a smile of her own begins breaking over her lips. how typical of him. this dance of theirs wasn't new, almost well rehearsed at this point. she notices, he evades at some level. usually a diminishment of what occurred or of his own injuries. at least this time it appeared he'd gotten the better end of it. if only she weren't so damn stubborn. she bites firmly on the inside of her cheek to stop her words from falling before his.
" ha, ha, very funny. " her eyes roll playfully. the bottle is accepted, but in true matilda fashion it was not exactly a deterrent. " any chance that treatment plan includes hand washing with anti-bacterial soap and a bandaid. " her head tilts in inquiry. " don't suppose you got a first aid kit in there ? " she gestures to the truck.
Not to deny Scottie the freedoms of three-dimensional suffering, but sometimes Vik thinks he just does not want her to know what being sad even is. It just feels wrong, this kind of sorrow, on a person that to him seems like a light so sparkling and full of life.
And if he can keep Scottie entertained, neither of them has to really stop and examine what he is doing hiding out either. He snaps out of it fast, as if no one was just sitting here sulking.
"Would we settle for a drowning or a good old-fashioned kidnapping?" he asks, prepared to drag their imaginary enemies vividly. He slings an arm around her tiny shoulders, a bottle of wine in his hand now in front of her as an offer. "I've managed to snag some. Did you know catering companies have staples in case of emergencies or to cater the next event? Amazingly handy. Either way, walk me through our plan for tonight, my little liege, surely we’re not spending the entire evening behaving."
" i was more thinking drawn and quartered, " she says as if it's the most normal thing in the world.. as if her idea wasn't much more violent. the girl couldn't help it. the mood was in the crapper and without anything to take the edge off, it was sharper than a knife. she let's herself sink into his embrace more than normal. latching onto the comfort he gave her. as soon as the bottle was in front of her it was plucked from his hands and brought to her lips.
"hm, " she ponders for a moment. " how many bottles do they have hanging around ? " she takes another sip needing to be anything but sober. " s'pose we could take the rest of their stock if so. or really just the truck in general. any food left in there? i haven't been grocery shopping in a bit. could save me a couple hundred bucks." how responsible of her.
" pinoochio? that's awfully dreadful but not as dreadful as william... " he trails off as if he's measuring how much offense he should be taking. he supposed his options weren't already in his favor as it was. " honestly scots, out of the two and you choose to compare me to the balding one. " fork it over. if it weren't scottie, if it weren't for who the memorial was for, he wouldn't have been so eager to oblige of handing it over so quickly but he's not one without heart. " anyone ever tell you you're demanding? " he teasingly asks with a quirk of his brow as he reaches into his pocket to hold it out to her.
" you mean william isn't the redheaded one ? " she scrunches her features in confusion. " guess that makes sense. would be kinda fucked up if he was harry. " being reminded everyday of the thing you're losing rapidly. plucking the blunt from his hand she pulls a lighter out from the back pocket of her pants. finally she had something to calm the rapid beat of her heart. after a long drag she hands it back. " two people just today actually. this makes you lucky number three. how do ya feel ? "
"The world doesn't stop for anybody." It's a truth that he had to experience just two years ago with his own father. His thoughts went out to any existing family of Gabby's and her immediate friends. "It was an utterly cruel act. I can't help but look at people a little differently."
" i would say it does put everything into greater perspective. " priorities and values shifting into a different alignment once faced with mortality. especially when the loss is someone so young, someone who was as stand up a citizen as they come. " an understandable feeling. until there is more clarity i'm sure it will linger. "

being here and seeing all of this, it reminded the man of when he lost his own parents. he did not know her that much to be connected to her but it was still tragic. "I'm not confident in them figuring out who did it," Derrick admits with a slight frown. he could only continue drinking from his cup as he turned to the other. "sorry to sound a bit morbid just kind of sad i guess."
sloane really shouldn't be here, all of the emotions swirling were starting to be a little suffocating. an air of despair was starting to settle in, that couldn't be the intention of the event organizers. perhaps it was inevitable, too many unanswered questions. " well then let's hope it's an isolated incident. " maybe it was insensitive, but she couldn't be the only one thinking it.

It was late by the time Jake rolled up to the bluffs, hot off some last-minute MC shit that had gone longer—rougher—than expected. His adrenaline still lingered. His knuckles were still split, and the dried blood that wasn't his was still catching beneath the glow of the fire light in the distance. He snagged a beer from the six-pack he'd brought and kicked a boot up to the tire of his car, leaning back against the fender as he took a long, slow pull.
"Wasn't gunna fuckin' miss it," Jake muttered, his eyes fixed over the cliff. He lifted the bottle slightly, then shrugged once, offering them nothing else. "Shit just took longer than it shoulda."
while matilda was no stranger to death, over the years she had cultivated a very unshakeable appearance. part compartmentalization, part her ability to swiftly process a handful of difficult emotions. whatever it was tonight, she wasn't sure. staying together while everyone fell apart was her specialty. after mulling about and checking on a few friends, a bit of space from the crowd was calling her name. on her search for a break in the crowd a familiar voice pulled her attention.
her eyes landed on the grip he had on the bottle, easily noticing the damage to his hand. something that was almost expected at this point. " get in a fight with a blender or something ? " she asks with a raised brow, an obvious tease in her tone. " s'not sanitary you know. " she knew there was a rather high chance that the blood remaining behind wasn't his own.

bio ( tw stalking & violence );
if you asked her, everything about her life was mundane. there was a solid foundation of the truth in that statement. from birth to adulthood things for sloane were normal. two parents with one child. there was never any need to cry out for attention. she was smart so school came naturally, was a multi sport athlete, was relatively popular while remaining approachable and genuine. everything seemed rather run of the mill so it made the lie easier.
college held such opportunity for growth and success that bright eyed and bushy tailed sloane arrived on campus with aspirations of some grand future. shortly after classes started she started receiving alarming text messages from an unknown number. they were about her interactions on campus. comments on the clothes she was wearing, expressing anger if she appeared too close to anyone.
blocking the number didn't stop anything because the perpetrator had her number. reaching out to the school for help was fruitless. they refused to do anything. there wasn't any evidence anything would happen. and of course, something did. at some point during the school year she became a recluse, only leaving her dorm room for class, avoiding talking with anyone in public. praying that it would give her stalker nothing to grasp at. for one week the messages stopped. seven whole days with nothing.
her roommate managed to convince her to go to a frat party off campus. there was no way they'd be able to find her right? so off she went and she was having a good time too. meeting this charismatic guy who she felt something click with. off they went for some privacy, on a walk outside. in a place she didn't know well. and this charming man of course revealed himself as the one who'd been watching her. when she tried to run he grabbed her, in the scuffle sloane managed to elbow herself free and almost magically, by some divine intervention, find that the shop they were in front of had construction being done.
pulling some random piece of metal from a pile, smashed it down on her stalker's head. unfortunately, but understandably she couldn't stop. all the anger and fear pouring out of her now she hit him 3 more times. finally snapping out of it she just ran. ran all the way back to her dorm, packed three bags and left without another thought.
she watched the news, scoured the internet, the man she attacked was never found. he was out there somewhere, but she had certainly gotten quite the lead on him. she just knew it.
after a couple months she decided to settle in grimmvale, learning of a lonely elderly woman's passing, sloane arrived as her estranged granddaughter trying to connect to her grandmother somehow. the girl got a job at the bakery and never looked back, and she certainly never told anyone anything true about her history. being as unassuming as possible, fitting herself in as best as she could.
sloane had harded, much more guarded. never fully recovering from what brought her to town in the first place made her more vigilant. also made her stronger. less likely to take people's shit because, hell, she bashed a guy's face in, she was capable of defending herself. though she'd much rather, not have to.

Funerals and memorials were not a pleasant endeavour. Vik regretted coming almost immediately. It made him miss family, made him livid nobody had invited him to his grandfather's funeral years ago, made him bitter at the thought of no one coming when he died, either.
He'd hidden away by the catering service tent with a mortadella focaccia and a nicked bottle of Château Musar, his black suit stark against the damp green grass, his back against the perfect white tablecloth as he took a drag of a joint.
At the sound of someone rounding the table, he shifted one knee aside, silently making room on the grass.
the mood was too heavy, scottie didn't do heavy. it didn't matter that for all intents and purposes, gabby was a sister. found early in her foster family travels and then lost much too quickly, as was the way it kept seeming to happen to her. seeing her again in this town was a big reason she had stayed at first. a flicker of light she'd craved since she could remember. which inadvertently lead her to the lost boys, to the first home she ever let herself actually settle into.
" whoever's idea it was to make this thing liquor free needs an ass beating. " scottie plops down beside vik unceremoniously with a sour look on her face. " from someone else of course. blood's nasty. " as feisty as the girl was, getting her hands actually dirty was not an option. running her mouth ? yeah, that was more her speed.
" better days have certainly been had. " there was a sense of safety that was rattled when learning of news of gabby's passing. " how about you ? " he didn't know the woman well by any means, though he felt the loss.
" do i look like someone who carries around something as vile and unlawful as drugs on me? i'm shocked and quite frankly appalled. " he quips knowing well there's plenty on him. recreational was prohibited? drugs were prohibited? it was just seen as as a monetary opportunity in the midst of being there for the memorial. there was no harm in that. " a blunt does sound bloody good right now i'll give you that. "
" i think your nose is gonna start growing there, pinocchio. " a laugh bubbles passed her lips before the gum does. if sy was around, one thing was for sure. his dedication to his craft was admirable, it rivaled her own. this night was much too heavy for scottie and that meant she was going to avoid that at all costs. not everyday your foster sister is brutally murdered in the town you currently live in. " since we all know the truth, " she pauses for a second to bring up her left hand, " fork it over, prince william. "

"That was just so touching. What a speech." Alana said, looking over at the person next to her. She wished she could roll her eyes. Everyone being here in the same place, acting like they cared about some random girl, pissed her off. Sure, she was a nice girl, but the fakeness everywhere was astounding. "Anyway, you got something a little harder to drink?"
sloane couldn't even begin to explain why she had even come. she didn't really know the woman. aside from the bakery, they basically didn't cross paths. maybe it was the love of a bonfire and the love of a crowd. now being amongst it, she wished that she'd just stayed home. " i wish, " she said with an annoyed expression. " it's times like these where i think i need to get a flask. " how ancient. maybe next time she'd toss some rose in a water bottle and call it a day.

"I'm sure the township thought this was a good idea." Riley paused as she shook her head. Gabby was her best friend, her ride or die. She gripped her white cane a little tighter. "She deserved more than this. Whoever did this to her... they need to catch them." She let out an exhale as she took a step away from the fire.
" a borderline delusional idea if you ask me, " matilda sighs. she could see both sides frankly. giving everyone a chance to mourn together as a community and connect was always an important thing to do. though, all the uncertainty surrounding the situation left a bad taste in her mouth. while matilda only knew gabby at an acquaintance level, she had nothing but positive things to say about her. the loss would leave a profound impact for too many reasons . " i believe they will. just crossing my fingers it's sooner than later. " she couldn't let herself worry. " how are you doing, riley ? "
was that wendy darling i saw around town today? nope, turns out it was matilda lance, the thirty-year old er nurse who has lived in town for her whole life i heard they have a reputation of being dependable & self-sacrificing. let’s hope the killer doesn’t go after them next while being here in grimmvale.
basics;
name: matilda k. lance. nickname(s): tilly ( by close friends ). gender: cis woman. pronouns: she/her. date of birth: july 7th sexual orientation: bisexual. language mastery: english and latin. height: 5’5”. tattoos: none. piercings: lobes, right carilage, belly button. mannerisms: fiddles with jewelry, chews on pens, paces when overwhelmed, hums songs consistently enough. moral alignment: neutral good. positive traits: empathetic, dependable, kind & creative. negative traits: self sacrificing, trusting, & obstinate. zodiac: cancer. hobbies: gardening & drawing. family: cecilia lance ( mother ), fredrick lance ( father ), freddie lance ( older brother ), thomas lance ( younger brother ), & dominic lance ( youngest brother ).
bio ( tw child injuries );
cecilia and fredrick lance love and care for all of their children dearly, they really do, but they didn't have much time. four children were a lot to support and both parents worked oh so much to do just that. cecilia was a cna with aspirations of completing her nursing degree, though with being so spread thin ( time and finance wise ), she never finished. needed only 6 more credits. fredrick was a traveling salesman for most of her childhood, barely ever in grimmvale. that left the four lance children home by themself much too often.
matilda, the only daughter, was quite the precocious little girl. her memory was impeccable and had what seemed like an innate sense of right and wrong. at the ripe age of six she knew how to safely use cooking utensils, oven, and the stovetop. she is three years younger than her brother freddie, who was left alone with his siblings the day he turned eleven. of course their neighbor was home next door and supposed to check on them every hour. she was old though and prone to long naps. it was okay though, tilly kept everyone in check.
all three of her brothers were rather rowdy and reckless, but somehow she was able to reel them in before things got too dangerous. that was until her youngest brother climbed the bannister and tried to jump to the couch and unfortunately missed. dominic suffered a compound fracture of his left fibula. while the two other boys started losing their minds, tilly, age 10, managed them. tasked one brother with calling 911 and the next with getting materials for her while she calmed dominic down. later, once he returned home to heal, tilly was his nurse, and she loved every second of it.
as she grew, she knew she'd end up a nurse and she would do everything in her power to become one. studied hard, got excellent grades, all while ending up her brothers caregivers. of course the boys had minds of their own and would get into trouble here and there, tilly was always able to help them out of it all while remaining empathetic and caring instead of judgemental and resentful.
managing to get plenty of scholarships, she was enrolled in nursing school right after high school. clinical rotations was where she fell in love with the er. the diversity of patients and injuries, the fast pace, and the true feeling of being able to be helpful. she's been there ever since and has no intentions of leaving.
personality;
has real eldest daughter syndrome 🤧 very level headed and empathetic. is always willing to lend a hand or an ear but is never pushy. would give you the shirt off her back even if that meant she had nothin left</3 will always speak her mind and say whatever she thinks someone needs to hear, BUT will do it gently and with love even if it is straightforward.
was that vanellope von schweetz i saw around town today? nope, turns out it was scottie " scoot " kang, the twenty.five-year old illegal racer & member of the lost boys mc who has lived in town for seven years. i heard they have a reputation of being adaptable & avoidant. let’s hope the killer doesn’t go after them next while being here in grimmvale.
basics;
name: scottie vivian kang. nickname(s): scoot by the lost boys. gender: cis woman. pronouns: she/her. date of birth: october 31st. sexual orientation: bisexual. language mastery: english and some spanish. height: 5’7”. tattoos: dragon on right upper arm & shoulder, colorful hearts on left hip and up her abdomen. piercings: double lobes, left tragus, right daith. mannerisms: chewing gum...like all the time, brows raising in a manner of challenging ( a grin always accompanying it), & fiddles with jewelry. moral alignment: chaotic neutral. positive traits: adaptable, spunky, nimble & straightforward. negative traits: reckless, finicky, & avoidant. zodiac: scorpio. hobbies: hustling people at pool, cooking & driving fast. family: nan j kang ( supposed grandmother ), parents ( unknown ), siblings ( unknown ), seven different foster families ( only on good terms with 4 foster siblings ) & the lost boys<3.
bio ( cancer tw, death tw);
it all started with a baby left on nan j's door with a note saying her name is scottie. and who is nan j in relation to this baby on her door step? well she was convinced this baby was her estranged daughter's. not having heard from annie in three years and never hearing from again just made sense to her. it wasn't too far off to assume her daughter would have a child and be unable to care for it while knowing nan j herself could do so. she had a rather negative view of her child of course. she never did find a birth certificate when doing light detective work and was somehow able to get one with herself as the mother.
unfortunately nan j wasn't the most nurturing of people. scottie had been with her for three years before the woman got sick. an aggressive form of cancer took nan j in seven short months leaving scottie alone once again. over the years scottie cycled through seven different foster families. each ending of placements were for different reasons. shitty foster parents, shitty foster siblings, retiring foster parents....running away. there were so many factors at play.
as a young child, scottie was painfully shy. wouldn't speak until spoken to and even then, quietly. attaching to foster families was an impossible task for a little girl who had experienced loss so young. that started to change with her 4th foster family. two women who had one other foster child that they were in the process of adopting. they were kind and patient, able to crack scottie's tough shell. it was like the girl started to come alive, got more confident and playful.
for the first time scottie thought there was a chance this could be her forever home. that was until the adoption was finalized. her foster sibling's behavior changed. became a bit aggressive verbally to scottie. by this time she had found her voice and gave it back. there were too many fights, screaming matches that were borderline scary. scottie was only 14. it got so bad that the only option was to find a different placement for scottie. ripping her from the first safe place she ever felt.
the years following she decided she was going to be the one to make the decisions in her own life. she became a stronger person. was able to maintain a touch of sweetness, refusing to lose all of it. if she didn't attach and just walked through life doing her own thing, she'd be fine. after a few more placements she met one of her favorite foster siblings. they. taught her how to hotwire a car ( which of course she thought was amazing ) and drive. the thrill of it all was dangerously attractive to her.
on her eighteenth birthday, or at least the one given to her ( who knows what it really is ), scottie hijacked some random clearly well loved car with money she'd amassed from working partime jobs since she was 15 ( plus the drag racing, shhhh), and rode off on her own. within a year she stumbled into grimmvale and been here ever since. very easily fell in with the lost boys after her talents were spotted.
personality;
miss scottie is spunky, straightforward, & loves to have a good time (probs too much but she doesnt even care if it gets her in a lil trouble bc she can get out of it<3) she really does not mind being underestimated bc she likes proving people wrong! will probably make a joke at anyones expense but only about lil stuff. kinda sour patch like, first shes sour, then shes sweet😋 loves to play pool (can and will hustle)!
