Rolling up to the house, everything seemed normal. No one would guess that the house’s current occupant was a monster. This was no abandoned building or sewer. Instead, the house was a simple brown two-story with a Honda parked in the driveway. The one thing that was different from the other houses was that every single window had its curtains drawn shut, not a single sliver of the inside visible. Most people wouldn’t find this odd, but the hunters knew better. This wasn’t some shut-in who preferred privacy. The interior of the house would reveal the horrors that had taken place.
Dean decided to take the front of the house while Sam and Sunny went around the back. This wasn’t the first time they had used a plan like this. They had to keep in mind that there may be a family in there. Knocking on the front door, his gun concealed in the back of his jeans, Dean waited for the vetala to show her face. The door opened slowly, revealing a beautiful woman. One that Dean may have even tried to pick up at a bar if the situation were different.
“Hello, ma’am. I know it’s late but my car battery died. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind giving me a jump?” Dean asked flirtatiously, doing his best to act the part. He stepped back so that the woman could see the Impala over his shoulder.
“I’m sorry. I don’t have any jumper cables,” the woman apologized before attempting to shut the door on Dean’s face.
“Oh, I do!” Dean placed his hand on the door to keep it open. The woman could sense Dean’s anxiety from the hurried response. Something wasn’t right. The back door creaked open and the vetala snapped her head just in time to see Sam and Sunny start to enter the home. The plan had, as usual, gone to shit. Dean pushed her into the hallway and kicked the front door closed behind him. The last thing they would need is civilians calling the cops.
Before Dean could reach his gun, the vetala had her hands on the collar of his shirt and threw him across the hall. Dean was on the ground, groaning, when he heard the gunshot. Looking up, he saw the vetala slump onto the ground. Luckily for all of them that Sam was a good shot. The three proceeded to comb the place. Vetalas mainly worked in pairs, but there didn’t seem to be any more jumping out of the woodwork. Sam took the upstairs, Dean on the main floor, while Sunny went down to the basement.
Making her way down the steps, Sunny was met with a peculiar sight. In the corner was a room, one that had clearly been put in after the house was made. The walls were plastered, with no paint covering it. The door that led inside was closed, a heavy-duty sliding bolt latch locked from the outside. Before going to the room, Sunny checked the rest of the basement. Behind the stairs, she was met with a sight that made her slightly sick.
The parents’ bodies had been carelessly tucked away. Their limbs were bent at unnatural angles, the woman piled on top of her husband. Sunny wished the vetala was still alive just so she could kill it again. Before she could remove the bodies, Sunny had to check the room. She slid the latch, unlocking the door, before slowly opening it with one hand. She kept her gun raised, unsure of what she was about to find. Quickly, though, she shoved it into the back of her jeans. Inside the room was the little girl, Courtney.
The room was painted and decorated for a child, complete with a bed, bookshelf, toys, and even a small toilet in the corner. Everything one would need for a little one. Once again, Sunny couldn’t help but feel sick at the sight. Courtney was huddled in the corner of the bed, a blanket laid over her. She didn’t look up when Sunny entered, probably expecting the monster who murdered her parents.
“Courtney?” Sunny whispered, as not to frighten the little girl, “don’t worry. I’m not here to hurt you.” With that, Courtney looked up.
“That mean lady…”
“She’s gone, Courtney. Are you hurt?” Courtney lifted her arm, showing what looked like fingernail scratches. “Can you stand? I have some band-aids in my car.” Courtney looked nervous at the idea of following a stranger into a car. Her parents had always warned her about strangers. Sunny could sense the hesitation. “I’m here to help. Your brother Chase told me that you might be scared. He is so worried about you and misses you so much.” The little girl looked up at Sunny with wide eyes full of hope.
“Chase! I want Chase!” She ripped off the blanket and hopped to the floor, standing in front of Sunny. Sam and Dean had made their way down to the basement by now, standing back so that they wouldn’t scare Courtney.
“Okay, sweetheart. Is it okay if I carry you?” Sunny asked. She knew that Courtney could walk fine but didn’t want to risk her seeing her parents.
“Okay,” Courtney responded, lifting her arms so that Sunny could easily scoop her up. They left the room and as soon as she saw the brothers Courtney tensed.
“Don’t worry, Courtney. These are my friends, Sam and Dean. They may look big and scary but they are softies. We are all here to protect you and bring you home.”
“Hi Courtney,” Sam gave her a small wave.
“Hello, ma’am,” Dean reached out his hand to shake hers. Courtney let out a giggle at the action and shook his hand. Sunny looked at the boys before motioning with her head to the stairs.
“Okay, Courtney. Sam and Dean are going to finish cleaning up while you and I get you those band-aids.” Sam and Dean got the hint, staying behind as Sunny took Courtney to the Impala. By the time they were done, bringing the bodies wrapped up in blankets, the two girls were sitting in the back. The bodies were placed gently into the trunk, each brother collecting himself before going around to the front of the car. They had to keep happy appearances for Courtney. Once everyone was in, and Courtney showed off her new band-aids, they were off.
As soon as the Impala pulled up to the house, Chase was running out the door. He had been waiting all night in hopes that the FBI would save his family. Sunny helped Courtney out of the car, placing her on the front lawn.
“Chase!” Courtney squealed at the sight of her older brother. He picked up her, giving her a tight hug.
“Coco! I was so worried about you, are you okay?” Chase put her on the ground again and kneeled, looking at her face and body for any injuries.
“I got a scratch but don’t worry, I got band-aids!” Courtney showed them to Chase. Her arm had an unreasonable amount of band-aids on, one stacked over another.
“Let me guess, you did that yourself?” Chase chuckled as Courtney nodded her head. He stood up and looked to the three adults, silently asking the question he already knew the answer to. Sam shook his head, confirming his suspicions. Tears quickly formed in the teenager’s eyes. He tried to hold them back for the sake of his sister. “Um… thank you for bringing my sister home to me.”
The three hunters nodded, not knowing exactly what to say. Courtney turned to look Sunny, using her hand to wave her over.
“Yes, Courtney?”
“You can call me Coco. That’s what everyone calls me,” Courtney smiled up at the woman. Sunny bent down and smiled, pushing a strand of hair behind the child’s ear.
“Well, Coco, you can call me Sunny.” Both Sam and Dean’s eyes widened. Hope fluttered inside them, hearing that she had accepted her name once again. It even made Sam’s eyes water.
“Sunny! I like that name. Can you stay right here for a second? I wanna give you something,” Courtney went over to her brother, whispering something in his ear. He smiled, nodding to her. She quickly ran on her little legs into the house, emerging a minute later with a stuffed teddy bear in her arms. She once again ran up to Sunny, holding the bear out for her to take. “This is Teddy. He used to keep me safe when I got scared… My parents told me that everybody gets scared, so I want you to have him. In case you get scared.”
“What if you get scared, Coco?” Sunny asked, her head tilting to one side.
“I’ll think of you. You helped me when I was scared,” Courtney shrugged. Sunny could feel her throat tighten, tears threatening to spill from her eyes as she took the teddy bear from Courtney’s hands. She wrapped her arms around the little girl, giving her a big hug before standing and joining the boys again. Dean stepped towards Chase, a card in hand.
“If you two are ever in danger, or something is wrong and you need help, call this number. It’s my personal cell,” Dean told the teenager. Chase took the card and thanked him before ushering Courtney inside the house. Sam and Dean looked over to Sunny, who was simply staring at the bear in her hands. They climbed into the Impala without a word between them. They were only on the road a few minutes before the silence was interrupted by sniffling.
“Pull over,” Sam whispered to his brother. Dean pulled to the side of the road, letting Sam get out of the passenger seat and into the back. Sunny looked up at Sam, her eyes filled to the brim with tears. “Come here,” he pulled Sunny into his arms. Dean started to drive again as Sunny broke out into sobs. Her entire body shook as she cried, her wails filling the car. Both Sam and Dean became misty-eyed themselves. Dean held it together so that he could drive, while Sam let the tears pour down his face.
Sunny went from feeling numb to feeling everything at once. It hit her harder than she could have expected, her bawling making her retch. Sam ran his fingers through her hair and rocked her, softly shushing her in an attempt to calm her. She coughed, choking slightly from her tears. Eventually Sunny began to wear out, leaving her only able to whimper in Sam’s arms. It seemed to take hours before she finally fell asleep.
Sam didn’t let that stop him, continuing to rock her gently back and forth. He knew that the floodgates had opened. He also knew that he would be there for her through it all.

The next day Sunny walked into the library, laptop in hand. Both brothers were relaxing, doing their own thing.
“Guys, I think I found something,” Sunny got their attention. The boys perked up at the announcement. Sam had told Dean about the conversation that he and Sunny had in the gym, letting him know that they were going to go on whatever case that Sunny brought them. It was better than her going off alone. “I have three dead families in Denver. All families of three, two parents with a child. The three kids were 5,7, and 8. Not the weirdest part either. The families were all taken, the parents showing up dead three days later. The kids weren’t found until five days after the capture. All nine people had bite wounds on their neck, blood greatly diminished but not fully drained.”

“Wait, so you were saying that all the kids were found after their parents? But they have less blood than adults. If it's a bloodsucker wouldn’t the kids be dried up first?” Dean asked on the car ride to Denver.
“Maybe they are saving them for after the parents are dead?” Sam tested the idea. Both Dean and Sunny didn’t seem to think that was the case.
“I don’t know, but I guess we will find out,” Sunny shrugged as the Impala drove up to the medical examiner’s office. The three flashed their fake FBI badges and were quickly escorted to the bodies. The examiner pulled out all of them from their metal shelving.
“So here are those bite marks. To be honest, I have no clue what bit ‘em. Not like any animal I’ve seen,” the examiner shrugged. She was right, it didn’t look like an animal, but none of the hunters would say that.
“Well, that’s why we are here, to help you solve this thing,” Sunny spoke confidently. Both Sam and Dean were surprised to see Sunny like this, even if they knew it was all an act.
“I’ll leave you to it. Just let me know if you need any help,” the examiner offered before leaving to go back to her office. The three hunters looked over the bodies for a minute before starting to brainstorm.
“Guys, the parents are further along in the decomposing process than the children,” Sunny noticed as she read through the patients’ charts.
“So the kids really weren’t dead until their parents were gone,” Sam nodded. It was odd, that was for sure, “I was gonna say changeling but these don’t look like their bites at all.”
“Vetala,” Dean spoke up from where he was hunched over one of the corpses.
“How do you know?” Sunny questioned.
“The bite. I’ve tangoed with these bitches a few times before. I don’t know what’s up with the kids. Maybe they were the dessert?” Dean shrugged. Both Sam and Sunny shuddered at the thought. It was brutal enough that the kids were dead.
“Okay, so how do we find them?” Sunny looked to both brothers for an answer.
“Guess we find where they’ve all been lately? Go from there?” Sam said as he began closing the drawers that held the bodies of the victims. With any luck, no more would join them.

The three of them had spent the rest of the day interviewing the victim’s families. It was rough, needless to say. These families had lost three people all at once, one being a child. No one should have to go through that. Both Sam and Dean were affected by their grief, but Sunny remained the same. If anything, the numbness increased. It was as if her body was rejecting any sense of feeling.
Sam was worried. Hell, he had been worried about Sunny - or Janine - since she went missing. He wasn’t sure that he would ever be able to stop the constant concern, even once she was back to her normal self. Because she was going to come back to him. She may not have hope, but he had enough for both of them.
Just as they thought the day was ending, the hunters got a call from the sheriff’s station. Another family had gone missing, but one of the members had been left behind. The three jumped into the Impala, racing to the house of the newest victims. When they got to the house they were met with two police cars out front, one officer talking to a teenage boy on the front porch. Dean went off to talk to the other officers that were hanging back, while Sam and Sunny approached the boy. The closer they got, the more they could see how distraught he was. Once the officer with him saw them, she left to join her colleagues.
“Hi, I’m Janine and this is Sam. We are with the FBI and were wondering if you could answer some questions for us,” Sunny said as she took the seat next to the boy that the officer had just vacated. The boy, who Sam guessed was 13 or 14, sniffled and nodded. “So, what’s your name?”
“Chase,” he told them, his voice small.
“Chase, can you tell us who went missing?” Sam coached, making sure to keep his voice soft and full of empathy.
“My parents and my little sister… My mom’s name is Sandra, my dad is Phil. My little sister’s name is Courtney, but we all call her Coco,” Chase sniffed again, obviously holding back tears.
“How old is Courtney, Chase?” Sunny asked.
“She’s 6…” a tear escaped Chase’s eye, falling down his face, “she must be so scared. She is afraid of everything. The dark, spiders… I mean we had to skip the beginning of Finding Nemo because she couldn’t handle it. The only thing that calms her down is her teddy bear, but it’s still here.”
“Okay, Chase, this is important. Where did the three of them go recently? Did they go somewhere without you?” Sunny was doing her best to ask the important questions without overwhelming the boy. He was obviously broken up about the thought of losing his parents and baby sister.
“Um… yeah. I had school yesterday but Coco didn’t. Teacher in-service day or whatever it is. They decided to take her to Mabel’s Tiny Tots. It’s like a restaurant for kids, like Chuck-E-Cheese without all the games,” Chase had tears running down his face at this point and luckily the interview was over. They had a solid lead and could always come back to him later if necessary. Sam and Sunny thanked him for the help before going back to the Impala where Dean was waiting.
“Mabel’s Tiny Tots. They went there yesterday,” Sam told Dean.
“Locked door, no sign of a break-in. Must have been someone they knew or that had a key,” Dean told them as they all climbed into the jet black car.
“Maybe they snatched a key?” Sunny offered as a suggestion.
“Well, either way. Who’s hungry?” Dean lightly joked, heading to the restaurant that they all hoped would lead to the safe rescue of Sandra, Phil, and Coco.

Walking into Mabel’s Tiny Tots was like getting slapped in the face with a paint palette. The walls were covered in polka dots of all different colors, the lighting twice as bright as necessary. The tables were all circular and were paired with silly chairs in the shapes of hands and animals. Everything was slightly small, to adjust to the children. Sam was having a hard time not smacking his head on the lights that hung from the ceiling. The three hunters looked extremely out of place, in their flannel and dark clothing. Not to mention the lack of bright smiles that everyone else in the room seemed to carry. They scoped the place out, looking for women who might have the monster vibe. They slightly separated once more, making sure that they were all within sightline just in case something happened. There were a few families at the tables, all of which had kids under the age of 8.
Each hunter was slowly asking all of the employees what they knew about the families. So far they were turning up empty-handed, well, until Dean saw a guy sneak out the back exit. Vetala were always women, so he knew that the guy wasn’t it, but something told him to follow. Stepping out into the cold night air, Dean was quickly hit with a familiar smell. Not ten steps away was the college-age worker, a joint dangling from his lips. Chuckling to himself before regaining composure, Dean walked over to the young man. As soon as the employee spotted him, his eyes widened in panic.
“Oh, shit. I swear I have a med card for this!” the twenty-something threw the joint to the ground, stomping it out with his foot.
“I’m sure you do. How about this, I don’t take you into the station and in exchange, you give me any information you know,” Dean kept his FBI intimidation face on, which was clearly scaring the crap out of the guy in front of him.
“What...um… what do you wanna know?” He stuttered.
“Those people that showed up dead, well they were just the start. Another family was kidnapped today. We got a lead that brought us here. Any reason for that?”
“Um… I heard about those people. It fucking sucks dude. I had nothing to do with it. I don’t really know anything, I’m sorry,” the guy seemed actually apologetic at having a lack of information.
“What about the women here, workers, regular customers. Any of them creep you out? Spend time with a family that isn’t theirs?” Dean probed.
“I mean, the new manager kinda gives me the creeps…” the stoner shrugged.
“New? How new?” Dean questioned.
“She just got here like a month ago, got a transfer from Michigan. She’s like… really excited to hang out with the kids. She is super nice except when it comes to the parents. Tiffany, that’s her name, always complains about parenting decisions and how the adults act around their kids. One time she ranted for like, an hour, saying how awful one of the moms was to her daughter. She kept saying how she could be better than “that skank,” he shrugged. Dean knew that this must be the vetala.
“Is she working tonight?” Dean asked.
“Um… no,” the guy shook his head.
“Got her address?”
“It should be on a form in the office, you know, for emergencies,” the guy nodded.
“Show me.”

“Guys, I think I got her,” Dean told Sam and Sunny as he jogged up to them. They had just been close to calling it a night when the oldest Winchester came bearing good news.
“What where?” Sunny asked. Dean handed over a sheet of paper, an address was circled with a sharpie.
“Also I think I found out the motive. She wants to be a mom. That’s why the kids aren’t found until later. Maybe they all are getting upset that she murdered their parents, won’t call her Mommy,” Dean told them. It was a plausible theory, the only one that had made sense to them. Nodding, the three hunters all raced to the hotel to change into their hunting gear. Tonight they would take down the bitch.

The drive home was completely silent apart from the music that played on a low volume. Sunny didn’t speak a word, so neither did the boys. They wanted to wait until she was ready and she obviously wasn’t. Once they got to the bunker, though, Sam decided to speak up. Dean had parked the Impala in the garage but no one had made a move to get out yet.
“Um… Sunny?” Sam asked, leaning slightly towards her. Her eyes snapped to Sam.
“Don’t call me that,” she said, quiet yet stern, “I don’t know what you should call me, but just… not that.” Sam quickly nodded, taking in her request. It was the first thing she had said since they found her. At least now they knew that she could talk. Sunny looked away from Sam, letting herself out of the car. Both brothers were quick to follow, exchanging a look of worry between them. As soon as they reached the library, Sunny stopped and turned to look at the brothers.
“I’m going to go take a shower, change into some real clothes,” she gestured to her body which was still covered solely by Sam’s flannel, “so you guys can stop following me, I guess. I’ll be out in a little bit.” With that, she left the boys.
“Sam?” Dean asked, looking towards his brother. Sam’s eyes were still glued to the doorway that Sunny had just disappeared into. “Sam?” Dean shook one of Sam’s shoulders, finally getting his brother’s attention.
“Uh, yeah. What?” Sam asked.
“Are you okay?” Dean asked. He knew that Sam had to be worried about Sunny, but she was home. Things could only get better, right? He hoped so.
“Um...that is a tough one. Ask me later?” Sam let out an emotionless chuckle. Dean simply nodded. Sam sat down at the library’s center table while Dean left to get beers for the two of them. Sam wasn’t sure how he felt. The woman he loved was safe, but she was different. He couldn’t help but wonder what Roan could have done to her. The light in her had seemingly gone out and Sam had no idea how to get it back.

“Hey,” Sunny walked into the library, her hair still damp from the shower. She had taken her time, letting the warm water cover her. By the time she was done, her hair was no longer matted and the blood that covered her skin had swirled down the drain. Eventually, she left the comfort, knowing that the boys were waiting on her. She, of course, was correct. Sam and Dean had waited in the library, only getting up for beer and bathroom breaks. Dean had just left a few minutes ago to pick up food for all three.
“Hey S... babe?” Sam tried out. It was one of the pet names that he had used before she was taken and so he hoped that it would be alright. He got his answer pretty quickly.
“That works,” she shrugged, sitting down across from him. “So… how long was I gone?”
“Two weeks,” Sam said. He looked down at the beer in his hands, his nails peeling at the label.
“Oh…” Sunny didn’t know what to say to that. “...how are you?”
“How am I?” Sam let out a dull laugh, “I should be asking you that.”
“Well, I don’t really have an answer to that,” Sunny looked at him, her face still blank of any emotion. Silence filled the room, both of them not knowing exactly what to say.
“Um… I’m worried about you, of course, but I am more than glad that you are home,” Sam spoke honestly, “I don’t know what I would have done if…um… I… nevermind. Looking at you, sitting right across from me, it’s all I need. So whatever you need, time, a shoulder to cry on, anything, I am here for you…. I still love you.” Sam could feel himself choking up so he stopped speaking to take a swig of beer in an attempt to calm himself.
“I don’t really know what I need. Right now, I feel almost… numb? I mean, of course, I’m relieved that I’m not there anymore. But, I don’t know. I’m not sad, scared, happy… I’m just existing right now. I know that I love you and that I should be feeling that. But honestly, right now I don’t feel… love. It has nothing to do with you or anything. I just don’t… feel,” Sunny explained. Sam nodded, looking down at his fingers that tapped against the table. It was hard to take in what Sunny had just told him but he knew that it would have to be harder for her.
“Okay. I’m here for you. Don’t worry, just give it time. You aren’t alone. I’m right here,” Sam attempted a small smile, his eyes doing most of the work. He cared for Sunny and wasn’t even close to giving up on her. The two of them sat there, both in their own minds for a few minutes before the bunker door swung open. Dean soon appeared at the table, bags of takeout in hand.
“So, um… sweetheart, I didn’t know what you wanted so I just grabbed a few different things. Anything you don’t eat we can just save in the fridge,” Dean looked over to Sunny as he took a seat. She nodded in thanks, digging through the bag that Dean had scooted in her direction. It didn’t take long before she was shoveling mac and cheese into her mouth almost ravenously. Both brothers couldn’t help but stare at her, surprised to see the wild appetite she had. Feeling the eyes on her, she looked up and shrugged.
“I haven’t eaten in two weeks, sue me,” she said before bringing her attention back to the food.
“Wait… you didn’t eat at all while you were there?” Dean asked. She shook her head no, which only made Sam and Dean more confused. “Well, then how did you survive?”
“Oh, that. He used a spell. It basically froze my body in time. No need for food, no bathroom, didn’t lose any weight or muscle. He took it off before he left, like half a day before you guys showed up,” Sunny explained without the slightest hint of hesitation. She knew that hearing about her time spent in the captivity room would upset the boys, but she was also going to answer every question honestly.
“So you didn’t even drink water for two weeks?” Sam asked, surprised. He had never heard of a spell that could keep a human alive like that.
“Well, I mean, if he dumped water on me some would get in my mouth. It always had salt in it, though, so it wasn’t as refreshing,” Sunny said as she pulled more items out of the bag. Both Sam and Dean’s eyes widened, Sunny’s bluntness taking them back. They wanted to know more but weren’t sure of her limits.
“Um…” Dean tested the waters, “why was there salt in the water? Demons hate that shit.”
“So that it would burn the cuts.”
“Well, shit,” Dean whispered to himself in response. The thought of the torture was bad enough, but Sunny’s lack of emotion made it worse. Her tone mimicked that of a person explaining tax forms, not someone who had been tortured nonstop. Sam bit at his lip and fought to keep himself from letting tears fall down his face. He didn’t want Sunny to see him upset.
The rest of the dinner was eaten in silence until they heard a whooshing noise. There Cas stood at the end of the table. Sunny had met Cas a few times in which he would only stay a few minutes. He liked to check in with the brothers and make sure everything was okay. She was sure that the boys had filled him in on Sunny’s capture.
“Hello,” Cas said. He gave a nod to the boys which they returned. They were used to his odd formalities by now. He turned to Sunny and gave her a small smile. “It is nice to see you again. I’ve been instructed not to use your name but I do not know what to call you that would be deemed appropriate. I still lack a full understanding of appropriate pet names and what works between friends.”
“Just call me Janine,” Sunny told him.
“Um… Janine?” Dean asked.
“That’s my actual name. Remember when we met, I told you that my other name was given to me by friends. The birth certificate, however, says Janine,” Sunny seemed tired explaining this. It bothered her that she had to use energy to explain this.
“Well, Janine, I can heal those wounds for you,” Cas offered while taking a step forward. He raised two fingers but before he could touch her forehead she shot out of her chair.
“Don’t touch me,” she said snapped, backing away from the angel. Before Cas could respond she ran out of the room. All three men were still for a moment, taking in what had just happened. Both Cas and Dean were surprised at the reaction but Sam could understand. She had just gone through weeks of torture. The last thing she would want is a man she barely knows laying a finger on her.
“Cas… man, it’s not you. It's the trauma,” Sam said in an attempt to comfort his friend. He didn’t want Cas beating himself up over something that wasn’t his fault.
“I understand, Sam. She isn’t in much pain, but I know that seeing her covered in wounds must not be enjoyable for you. If she changes her mind, just pray,” Cas placed a hand on Sam’s shoulder for a moment before disappearing.
The next few days followed the same pattern, Sunny would wake up, join the boys for breakfast, spend most of the day in the gym or the shooting range, and then meet up with the boys again for dinner. It took Sam four days to work up the courage to join her. Walking into the gym, Sunny was doing a rope workout, one in each arm that she whipped out in front of her. Her face was one of complete concentration. At first, Sam didn’t say a word. He walked to the bench press and began his usual workout, letting Sunny do her own thing. As soon as she was done with the ropes, he decided to speak up.
“Hey,” he started.
“Um… hi,” Sunny replied, obviously confused by the start of the conversation.
“So,” Sam scooted forward so he was sitting on the very edge of the bench, his elbows on his knees, “you’ve been working out a lot these past few days. Everything okay?”
“Yep, just staying in shape ‘til the next hunt,” Sunny shrugged as she stepped onto the treadmill. She started at a slow jog but within a minute was at a running pace.
“Next hunt?” Sam asked, his head tilting to the side like a puppy dog.
“Yeah. I mean, something is bound to pop up on the news sooner or later,” Sunny shrugged as she ran.
“Well, yeah. I just thought maybe you’d wanna wait a little while until we go out again. Give yourself some time to recover. I mean, your injuries alone are reason enough to stay home,” Sam’s brows were furrowed in concern. Not once did Sunny slow her pace, only briefly catching Sam’s eye.
“I’m fine.”
“No, I don’t think you are,” Sam stood and walked over to the treadmill, “you are working out all the time and have barely said a word and - can you just stop for a second?” The end of his sentence came out a little bit louder than he intended but it did the trick. Sunny slowed down her treadmill until it came to a stop and waited for Sam to continue. “I just… I’m worried about you. Honestly, I don’t think we should be going on hunts right now.”
“Well, that’s fine. We won’t. I’ll go alone then,” Sam ran a hand over his face in frustration at her words.
“God, no. You are not going out there alone!” At this point, both Sam and Sunny were starting to get heated.
“Sorry to break it to you, Sam, but I decide that. I am going hunting whether you come or not!” Sunny licked at her teeth in annoyance.
“You’re injured right now! You shouldn’t be working out this much let alone go out on a hunt. You can’t right now!” Sam basically yelled, his concern for Sunny manifesting itself into anger.
“No, Sam. You know what I can’t do right now? I can’t feel! I can’t feel fucking anything. Roan took everything from me, Sam. All that I had. He took my emotions, my upbeat optimistic personality. He took Sunny and FUCKING KILLED HER. HE KILLED HER SAM. I AM JUST DEAD INSIDE,” Sunny took a deep breath to try and control herself but failed miserably. “I am not who you fell in love with, Sam. I am not the me that got taken. I wish that I could tell you that a little bit of cuddling and talking about my feelings could bring her back to you but I can’t. Because I don’t know if Sunshine is ever coming back. Roan took it all, all my joy, and he crushed it. I am just a fucking shell. I don’t know who I am except for one thing. One thing, Sam. That’s hunting. I know that I am a goddamn hunter. So that’s what I’m going to do because either way, I’m going to be this fucked-up version of myself. I’d at least like to not sit around on my ass and hope that I wake up one day feeling peachy-keen again. So yeah, I’m going to hunt.”
The two of them stood for a moment, the tension in the air thick. Sunny could see that Sam was thinking over each and every word she just said, trying to figure out how to respond. He ran both of his hands through his hair, emotional exhaustion taking its toll on him. This was not the conversation he expected to have. He thought it over for a second before making his decision.

Sunny’s eyes fluttered open, a groan escaping from her lips. Her whole body ached after the days of torture that Roan had put her through. Her body was now covered with burns and cuts. The wounds on the back of her ankles had since scabbed over, leading her to believe that it had been multiple days since the torture began. It was impossible to know, the exhaustion causing her body to shut down every so often. Still, she had yet to give up hope that Sam was coming for her. He loved her and it had only been a week or so. She was in agony but still not broken and Roan knew that. He knew that it was possible, though. So far he had been able to make her scream, cry, and thrash. It wouldn’t be long until she was begging and hopeless.
Every time he entered the room he would bring with him that damned song. Sometimes he would sing it, other times simply hum the tune. This time was no different.
“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone….” Roan sang under his breath as he entered the Captivity Room. Sunny took a deep breath, preparing herself for whatever was to come. During her torment, she liked to imagine times with Sam. It helped remind her to stay strong. Once Roan entered her sightline, she saw that he had with him a bucket filled to the brim with water.
“Good morning my little sunshine. How are you today?” Roan asked cheerfully.
“Fuck you,” Sunny answered sweetly. She often chose to ignore his questions, finding them annoying. She wasn’t going to play his game.
“Skipping the pleasantries then? No problem. I was thinking, you are rather filthy. Thought today you might want to get clean,” Roan smiled, placing the bucket on the table. Sunny knew that there was something more to it than just ‘getting clean.’ Roan dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out a sponge. Maybe he wanted her to feel comfortable before torturing her once more? It was possible, but so far wasn’t his style. Dunking the sponge into the pail, he got it soaking wet. He stepped up to her arm, which was covered in various wounds, and brought the sponge down to clean it. What Sunny didn’t expect was for the water to burn. She let a groan as her arm twitched in an attempt to get away from the sponge.
“Oh, did I forget to mention? It’s saltwater,” Roan laughed. He spent the next hour slowly cleaning her entire body, sometimes taking a minute to press down onto the deeper wounds. Sunny was able to clench her teeth through most of it, not wanting to show him how much it hurt. But boy, did it hurt. Sunny felt her body fighting against the restraints, each wound burning and pulsing as the saltwater washed over them.
Once he was done, Roan stepped back to admire his work. Every cut and burn was now clearly visible against her skin, no longer being covered by copious amounts of blood. Looking at her, he bit down on his lip. He decided that he was going to start on a new kind of torture.
Sunny couldn’t help but look at her captor and wonder what he was thinking. He would get this look on his face sometimes, one of contemplation. It always made her nervous because whatever came next was always brutal to endure. He liked to think through his torture, unlike most who just hack away at a person. No, Roan was different, he was experienced and every action he took was deliberate.
“Sunny, Sunny, Sunny. It’s sad, you know. That the boys aren’t going to rescue you. I know that’s what you’ve been holding out for, right? Your knight in shining armor to come and whisk you away? I’m sorry to tell you, but Sam. Isn’t. Coming.” Roan pretended to sympathize with her. She stared up at the ceiling, not wanting to look at the bastard. She had tuned him out and barely heard a thing until the sound of metal brought her back to reality.
It wasn’t just the sound of metal, though. It was the sound of a belt buckle. Sunny froze at the noise, her heart leaping into her throat. No. She could feel the strap that covered her hips and genitals loosen until there was no longer the feeling of leather. She was exposed to him. Tears started to fall down her cheeks as she felt his hand grab the flesh of her thigh. She refused to look down, keeping her eyes fixed on the ceiling above her. Without any warning or preparation, he entered her.
Over the last week, she had experienced pain, but it was nothing compared to this. She felt as if she was being ripped in two by the man. Each thrust was accentuated by his hands squeezing down on the cuts that covered her hips. She tried to think of anything else, tried to think of Sam. But when she did, she just felt even more disgusted. What was happening was dirty, wrong. It wasn’t the passionate lovemaking that Sam and she would partake in. No, this was brutal and humiliating. It seemed to last forever before Roan was spilling onto her stomach. What she would give to have the saltwater back on her skin, if only to clean away the evidence of Roan’s abuse.
Roan smirked to himself, knowing that he was so close to breaking Sunny for good. He could see some of her fire leave her eyes and wanted to extinguish it all. Over the next few days, he would continue his new form of torture. He would use her body after making her bleed and scream out. It didn’t take long to see the shift in her. Instead of answering his questions sarcastically or cussing him out, she was now silent. Her eyes had a glaze over them, proving that she was no longer fully present. She had given up.

It had been now two weeks since Sunny was taken and Sam had fallen into a depression. He would lay in his bed for almost the entire day, only getting up when completely necessary. Whenever Dean checked on him, he found his younger brother staring at his cell phone as if willing it to ring. And it didn’t ring, not until today.
The bunker was completely silent, which it was most of the time nowadays. Dean was sitting in the library, on his computer when he heard the loud footsteps of his brother. Sam ran into the room, his phone in hand as the ringtone played. Dean quickly stood up, meeting Sam. They both had a look of surprise and hope on their faces. As soon as Sam knew Dean was within a distance to hear the caller, he answered the phone.
“Hello?” Sam answered cautiously. There was a chance it wasn’t anything about Sunny.
“Sam, guess who?” The familiar deep voice chuckled.
“Roan,” Sam growled in anger.
“Ding, ding, we have a winner,” Roan joked. “Guess what? It is your lucky day. I’m done with little Miss Sunshine. She is all yours. I’m sending you the coordinates now. Oh, and don’t bother looking for me. I’m already long gone, not even in the States. Send Sunny all my love.” Roan hung up before either brother could get a word in. A text message came through seconds later, coordinates. Sam and Dean ran to the garage, hopping into the Impala without a word spoken between them.
The trip was supposed to take ten hours, but with Dean flooring it the whole way there they made it in six. The ride was tense with no music playing and no conversation to be had. Both brothers were determined to get to Sunny. The coordinates had led them to an abandoned warehouse, typical. Dean hadn’t even shifted the gear into park when Sam jumped out, running to the front doors. Dean followed, quickening his pace in an attempt to catch up. They scoured the first two floors of the building but came up empty. Sam’s heart was going double time, the situation almost sending him into a panic. Luckily before that could happen, he found a set of stairs that led to a basement.
The two brothers ran down and began to check each room of the basement. All of them were completely empty, except for the third to last. Dean had swung the door open and saw two tables, one at an angle and the other covered in different weapons.
“Sam, over here. I found something!” Dean yelled as he entered the room. He stepped forward and was able to see Sunny, strapped to the table. “Sam, I found her!”
Sam rushed into the room, running to the table. The horror that laid before him almost made him throw up. There was Sunny, her naked body covered in wounds. At first, he was afraid she was dead but soon realized that he could see her chest rise and fall. She was alive and for now, that was all that mattered. Dean started working on freeing her from the restraints as Sam put his hand gently on her cheek, coaxing her to wake up.
Her eyes opened, immediately jumping from Sam to Dean, who had just finished freeing her ankles. Sam had expected a reaction, any reaction, but was met with nothing. Sunny just looked at them, her face void of any emotion. She didn’t say a word, just letting out a hiss when Dean brushed up against one of her deeper wounds as he freed her chest. Once she was free, Sam took her in his arms and carried her back to the Impala. Dean hopped in the driver seat, while Sam went with Sunny to the back. He didn’t want to let her go.
He covered her with one of his flannels, which was so big it went down to mid-thigh. Sunny leaned her head up against the window, staring at the scenery as Dean began the drive back to the bunker. Her face only had one look - exhaustion. Sam and Dean looked at each other in the rearview mirror, both of them wondering the same thing.

Sunny had been kept in the room for a few days but she wasn’t sure exactly how many. She was always drifting in and out of consciousness, the days and night completely blurred. The Captivity Room, as she liked to call it, had no windows to show the sun. Roan had left her alone after the first conversation and she wasn’t sure when he would come back. She hoped he never would, that Sam and Dean would save her before he could do anything. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
It was what Sunny guessed to be the fourth day when she heard the door creak open behind her. Roan’s voice filled the room, but he wasn’t speaking. He was singing.
“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone, it’s not warm when she’s away. Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone and she’s always gone too long, every time she goes away,” Roan entered her sightline and she could see the smirk on his face.
“Very clever,” Sunny quipped. Her voice cracked from disuse and thirst. Roan let out a chuckle. He just hummed the song to himself as he approached her. He stopped in front of her, his eyes trailing up and down her body. Sunny did her best to maintain her confidence but his look of contemplation made her nervous. Roan brought up a hand, grazing down her side. Her muscles tensed at the soft touch, making Roan smirk.
Reaching into his inside jacket pocket, Roan pulled out a hunting knife. He twirled it in his hands as he tried to decide where to begin. He walked down until he reached her feet. Grabbing one of her ankles, he twisted it slightly. He brought the knife to the very back of her ankle, slowly digging into her Achilles tendon. Sunny gritted her teeth in an attempt to keep from screaming. Roan wasn’t starting off easy. No, he wanted to see Sunny cry out in pain, whimper, beg him to stop. Sunny wasn’t going to go down without a fight though.
Blood was seeping from the first wound as Roan moved on to her other ankle. He repeated the action and Sunny felt like her ankle was on fire. He let go of her ankle, letting it drop back onto the table. He watched as she panted, breathing through the pain without a sound.
“Oh, my sunshine. You are going to be fun,” Roan growled. He was used to watching girls cry out and beg for him to let them go. It had been a long time since he had encountered someone like Sunny. Probably since Hell, when he carved up hunters almost daily. There was something special about breaking a hero. It was intoxicating. Roan’s steps echoed off of the walls of the near-empty room as he walked to her head. Sunny tried to glare but was weak from the pain. Regardless, she would not break. Not today.
He ran the blade softly against her cheek, letting her feel the serrated edge. He used his free hand to hold her head steady and leaned down until his mouth was right beside her ear. Softly, he blew cold air against her ear before swiftly slicing her cheek. The hiss she let out was satisfying and Roan wanted to hear more. He brought the blade right above her collar bone, digging the point in. Sunny was shaking from the effort of holding back a scream.
“I’ll be back, Sunny,” he drawled as his footsteps retreated from the table, making their way out of the room.

Dean was worried about Sunny but also his brother. It had been three days since she was taken and Sam had barely slept or eaten. He was driving himself mad trying to find anything leading to Roan or Sunny. Once Crowley revealed that Roan was one of Hell’s torturers, Sam had been in a state of panic and rage. He always had his head buried in his laptop or a book, trying to find the smallest sliver of hope. Every day that went by without a lead made him more worried.
Dean was starting to believe that Roan was telling the truth, that they wouldn’t find her until he wanted them to. Sam refused to believe it, not ready to face it. He was going to find Sunny. He was going to save her. Even if that meant refusing meals and sleeping only when his body couldn’t take another step.
“Sammy… please man. I never beg but I am begging you. Get some sleep. You are killing yourself here,” Dean said, rubbing his eyes as he stepped into the library. He had woken up in the middle of the night needing to pee and could hear Sam typing away on his laptop.
“Yeah, and Roan is killing her. I’m not going to go lay in my nice, warm bed while Sunny is god knows where going through god knows what,” Sam snapped. He had a short temper lately, mostly due to his fear and sleep deprivation.
“You can’t help her if you are passed out from exhaustion,” Dean grumbled, mostly to himself. He knew that nothing would get through to Sam. Not unless the words were coming from Sunny’s mouth.

Throughout the rest of the day, Roan would come into the room, laying weapons on the side table and leaving without a word. Each time Sunny wondered if he was going to start up on her again. Her ankles were throbbing, the heat refusing to subside as her body tried to heal them. Roan had been in and out of the Captivity Room seven times before he decided to stay.
“Sunshine,” Roan laughed, “do you know that if the Sun was any closer to Earth we would all burn alive? It is that hot... I wonder, Sunny, how well you handle heat.” He walked over to his table, and while Sunny couldn’t see what he had picked up, she heard the familiar sound of a butane torch. When Roan turned back to Sunny, she couldn’t help but widen her eyes in fear. In his hand was an iron rod. It was bright orange, having been heated by the torch. It would scald her skin just by getting close, it wouldn’t even need to touch her.
He stepped closer to her and Sunny could already feel the heat. Bringing his arm down, Roan pressed the iron onto her thigh. This time, Sunny couldn’t hold back the scream as it ripped through her throat. Roan smiled at the sound, it was everything he dreamed it would be. He lifted the iron up before bringing it back down only an centimeter lower. Her flesh boiled, unimaginable pain coursing through her body. It was as if her whole leg was on fire, not just the small strips that Roan had made. Sunny felt dizzy as Roan made the third burn and she began to drift in and out of consciousness. She was almost completely blacked out when water splashed her face. Her eyes shot open from the shock. Her leg was twitching, the intense pain shooting through her.
Soon, Sunny had burn marks from her hip down to her already pained ankle. Roan had finally let her pass out, done with the torture for the day. He was satisfied with the progress they had made. She was in pain, yes, but she wasn’t where he wanted her. No, it would take some time for that.

In her dreams, Sunny was smiling again. She was back in the restaurant where Sam took her on their first date. His arms enveloped her, keeping her pressed against his chest. They swayed to the music once more and she felt at peace.
“Sam?” Sunny looked up at him.
“Yes, Sunshine?” Sam smiled back down at her, squeezing her as he replied.
“I love being here, with you,” she sighed as they stared into one another’s eyes.
“But Sunny,” Sam said as a look of confusion grew on his face, “you aren’t here. You’re gone.”
“What are you talking about, Sam?” she was confused. She was standing right there, dancing with him.
“Sunshine… you’re gone,” Sam repeated. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared, leaving her stranded and alone on the dance floor.
“Sam?! Sam?!” she yelled out, looking around to find him. She felt a sense of dread as a song began to play, sung by a voice that made her shiver.
“Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone, it’s not warm when she’s away…”

Sunny felt like she was underwater, attempting to claw her way to the surface. She tried to move her arms, only to find them strapped down. She tried to open her eyes but was met with an unexpected heaviness. It was then she started to remember… going out to the parking lot, feeling something on the back of her neck, blacking out. She must’ve been injected or shot with something.
As the drug’s effects began to wear off, Sunny was finally able to open her eyes. She blinked repeatedly, her eyes attempting to adjust to the light. She was on some sort of table, her arms and legs strapped down with thick strips of leather. Sunny could feel a breeze hit her stomach and upon looking down realized she was completely naked, leather straps covering her breasts and genitals. Her chin was also being held by a strap, making it difficult for her to look around the room. All she could see was the water pipes that ran against the wall and a small table that sat near her. The dinginess suggested that she was in some sort of warehouse or abandoned building.
Sunny fought against the material but found no give on any of the restraints. It was obvious that whoever had tied her up knew what they were doing. Right now there was no escape in sight. She could feel her eyes water but quickly pushed back the tears, knowing that it wouldn’t do her any good to cry. She wasn’t going to give her captor the satisfaction.
The room was cold and goosebumps soon covered Sunny’s body. She would kill to have proper clothes or even a blanket on. She shuddered at the thought of someone undressing her unconscious body. As far as she knew, they could have done whatever they wanted.
Sunny was lost in thought when she heard a door swing open behind her. Footsteps began making their way towards her and she could feel her heart racing. A man stepped into her field of vision and she immediately recognized him - it was the man in the suit from the restaurant. Sunny was shocked, to say the least. She hadn’t even gotten the smallest inkling that this man was dangerous, let alone someone who would kidnap her. She held pride in how well she could read people... well she used to.
“Hello, Sunny. I’m Roan. It is a pleasure to meet you,” his voice sickly confident.
“Likewise,” Sunny responded sarcastically.
“Ooh, feisty. Not what I expected, giving your reputation, Miss Sunshine. No matter. Soon you will be begging me to let you go, so have fun with the attitude now while you can,” Roan smirked.
“What do you want with me?” She asked, wanting answers. She liked to know why she was getting tortured.
“Well, it’s not what I want with you, it’s what I want to use you for. I want Sam Winchester to suffer,” Roan shrugged.
“I know a lot of monsters hate the Winchesters, so you’ll need to be a little more specific,” Sunny told him dully. She made sure to keep her voice even, not wanting to give Roan anything to work with.
“Couple of months back, you were investigating a case. Sinners and saints, that ring a bell?” He questioned, leaning up against the table that sat in the room.
“I remember Sam killing the bitch,” she told him. Roan twitched in anger, his eyes shifting to black. Sunny knew he must have been a monster, so the demon reveal wasn’t a big surprise.
“Well, Sam, killed one out of two. My wife liked to take out men who would end up in the hole. She was a demon recruiter of sorts. I, on the other hand, had a different task. I took out pretty women who worked to make the world all bright and sunny. Less of them, fewer people being convinced to live the good life. So, you would imagine my excitement when I went after my wife’s killer and found out he had a perky one. It’s like a two for one discount with you, sweetheart,” Roman bit his lip in satisfaction. Sunny could feel her heart begin to race. This wasn’t torturing for information or even the hell out of it. He wanted revenge.
“Why not just kill him?” Sunny asked.
“Because I want him to know what it feels like when someone kills your love. No, I want him to feel something worse. I want him to know that you are just within his grasp but he is completely helpless. I want him to wonder what I’m doing to you and then find out it’s worse. Darling, I want Sam Winchester to know that he fucked with the wrong man.”
With that, Roan walked out of the room, leaving Sunny to sit with the information. She was terrified but had faith in the Winchester brothers. They would find her, save her.
Sam would save her.

Sam paced in the library of the bunker, his mind racing. Dean was on the phone with yet another hunter, asking around for anyone who knew Roan. So far he had spoken to about a dozen people but no one knew anything. Dean was starting to get desperate, calling people that he barely knew. Looking at his brother, he knew that Sam was close to the brink. He needed to give his brother something to work with.
As soon as he ended the call with a woman who hunted solely in Alaska, his phone began to ring. The caller ID made him roll his eyes, Crowley.
“Crowley,” Dean groaned, “I don’t have time for your bullshit right now. We are code red here.”
“So, you don’t want to hear what I know about Roan?” Crowley asked, his cocky attitude at full volume.
“What do you know?” Dean quickly shifted his tone. Sam’s head snapped to look at Dean, walking towards him to find out what information was being shared. Before Dean could press the button to go on speakerphone, the call ended. Crowley was now sitting at the table across from Dean, Sam quickly sitting down next to him. The demon glanced between the two brothers, relishing in the attention.
“Crowley, speak!” Sam hissed, slamming his hand down on the table.
“Touchy. I don’t know where your pet is, Moose,” Crowley leaned back in his seat, “I do, however, know Roan.” Sam huffed, crossing his arms in front of him. He wanted to punch Crowley in the throat but knew that if he were to do so, the demon wouldn’t be able to share what he knew.
“Crowley stop dicking around and just tell us,” Dean growled. He was close to torturing the information out of the man.
“Okay, okay. Roan used to reside in Hell before I became the king. He worked for centuries there but decided to go topside once he found himself a demon lover. His wife, Dianara, and he were merciless. Dianara would murder distasteful men to add to the demon ranks, while Roan had a tendency to carve up heavenly women…”
“Wait, Dean, the first case Sunny went on with us…,” Sam’s eyes widened with realization.
“I guess there really is a brain under all of that hair,” Crowley said, “see, you three talented hunters thought the case was solved after Moose here stabbed dear Dianara. What you left behind though was one angry killer.”
“I killed his wife and now he is using Sunny for revenge,” Sam’s voice was low and gravely. He could feel the anger coursing through his veins, at both Roan and himself. If he had stayed for longer or done more research, maybe he would’ve killed Roan and Sunny wouldn’t have been taken.
“Is there anything else you know about him?” Dean asked, trying to gather as much information as possible, “Any leads to where he might be keeping her?”
“Unfortunately not. He hasn’t been seen by any of my people since he quit his job down below.”
“What was his job?” Dean asked.
“Good question Squirrel, as the two of you actually share something in common. He, like you, worked under Alastair.”

Two Months Later
Walking into the mat room, Sunny cleared her throat to get the brothers’ attention. Sam looked over to his girlfriend, a smile growing on his face. The two of them were closer than ever and he couldn’t be happier. Sunny had moved into Sam’s room a month ago and somehow the ‘honeymoon phase’ still hadn’t worn off. They were both as obsessed with one another as they had been at the beginning. While they hadn’t said the words yet, the love between them was obvious.
The lessons had continued slowly, Sam and Dean working on feeling their surroundings. After Sunny’s special lesson, Sam had caught up to where Dean was. Today, Sunny had decided to step things up a notch.
“Okay, boys. You guys have been doing great so far. I want to show you what you are aiming for,” Sunny said, pulling a long piece of fabric from her pocket. The men recognized it as a blindfold.
“Ooh, are we getting sexy today?” Dean quipped.
“If you wanna be a smartass Dean-y boy, you can go first,” Sunny smiled. Dean shrugged, reaching out a hand to take the blindfold from Sunny. She chuckled, moving the fabric out of his reach. “Oh, you thought this was for you?”
Dean’s eyebrows raised as she walked to the center of the room. She motioned for Dean to follow, allowing Sam to stay on the sidelines to watch. She reached up and tied the fabric over her eyes, adjusting it so that no light seeped through. Dean looked over to Sam for some form of explanation but was only met with a shrug.
“Okay, Dean. I want you to try to pin me on the ground,” Sunny instructed. Dean chuckled to himself.
“Sweetheart, I know you are good but this is gonna be easy,” Dean said. He was one cocky son of a bitch sometimes.
“Prove it,” Sunny egged him on. Dean let out another laugh before launching himself forward in an attempt to tackle the woman. Just as he was about to reach her, Sunny side-stepped, letting Dean stumble onto the floor. Standing up, he brushed it off as beginner’s luck. Sunny turned to face him, throwing a punch that landed on the edge of his jaw.
“Motherfucker!” Dean swore, his hand reaching up to cradle his face. He could feel the heat coming from the injury as blood rushed to create a bruise.
“Don’t go easy on me Dean because I am not going easy on you,” Sunny shrugged. Dean straightened himself up, determination flashing in his eyes. He attempted to make his feet land light, walking around Sunny so he was facing her back. He quickly stepped forward, his right arm hooking around her neck. She used both of her hands to grab his forearm, launching him over her shoulder. His back hit the mat floor with a thud, Sam’s laughter filling the room. Dean shot his brother a look before standing up once more. Facing her, Dean brought his arm back to throw a punch. Sunny ducked down, hitting Dean twice in the stomach. He brought his knee up, connecting it with her stomach. Sunny groaned slightly but didn’t stop in her assault. Spinning, she brought her foot up and kicked Dean’s face. The hit brought him to the floor of the mat once more, the room spinning. Sunny untied the blindfold with one hand, blinking to adjust as the light flooded her eyes. Looking down at Dean, she gave a smirk of satisfaction.
“You were saying?” Sunny reached out a hand, pulling Dean up. “ I can’t tell what’s more bruised: your ego, or your face.”
“I’m pretty sure it’s my goddamn face,” Dean whined.
“You have two options: go get some ice or stay and watch me kick your brother’s ass,” Sunny offered. Dean took a second to weigh his options before sitting against the wall. It wasn’t every day you got to see a blindfolded woman beat the crap out of your brother. Sam walked up to Sunny, visibly nervous.
“I don’t like the thought of trying to throw punches at you,” Sam admitted. Usually hitting your girlfriend was frowned upon.
“Don’t worry, babe. It’s not like any will land,” Sunny teased. Sam rolled his eyes but could accept that answer. If what just happened with Dean was any indication, he was about to get his ass handed to him.

The three hunters sat in the kitchen, Sam and Dean both holding ice packs to their faces. Sam’s fight with Sunny had gone quite similar to his brother’s, if not worse. His right eye was now sporting a deep purple bruise to prove it. Walking over to the men, Sunny handed them each a beer.
“How are you two feeling?” She asked.
“Sore,” Sam answered.
“Annoyed,” Dean replied. Sunny giggled at the answer.
“Well, Dean, at least you know to never underestimate me.” Sunny went to look through the cupboards for something to make for dinner. She frowned, coming up empty-handed. They had gotten back from a hunt a few days ago and have yet to go grocery shopping. “Why don’t I go out and grab food for us? You both could use the rest and there is nothing to cook here.”
“I can go with you,” Sam offered. She smiled but shrugged him off.
“No, no. You just chill here, I’ll be back in like 30. What do you guys want?” She asked.
“Burgers!” Dean yelled out before Sam got a chance to suggest anything remotely healthy. Both Sam and Sunny laughed at the outburst.
“Yeah, Burgers is fine. Just get mine lettuce-wrapped?” Sam requested. Sunny nodded and left headed to the garage. After spending multiple months with the boys, she had noticed their eating habits were both incredibly consistent. Dean always got the greasiest thing on the menu, while Sam got the exact opposite. Sunny was the wild card of the three, always opting to try new things.
Grabbing the keys to her Cadillac, she couldn’t help but grin. It was rare that she got to drive her car now that she was with the boys. They always took the Impala and while it didn’t necessarily bother her, Sunny did miss the feeling of being in the driver’s seat. Soon, she was out of the bunker’s garage and out on the open road. Sunny rolled her windows down, the cool air whipping around her.
Sunny made her way to the center of town to the burger joint that she and the Winchesters frequented often. Sam liked that there was a vegan restaurant next door and could always grab something there if he didn’t feel like greasy food. It took a while for Sunny to find parking, needing to use the parking lot directly behind the restaurants and nearby shops. Stepping out, she locked her car and checked her back pocket to make sure she had a credit card on her. Once she was sure that she had what was needed, she headed inside the restaurant. It had gotten pretty late, so Sunny wasn’t surprised that there were only a few customers. In the corner sat a man who had probably just gotten off of work, the tie of his suit loosened and jacket over the back of his seat. There was a teenage couple sharing a plate of fries and a milkshake over in the corner. Sunny smiled, remembering her teenage dates. They were always so full of giddiness, a sense of excitement in the air. One family sat at a larger table, two parents with a handful of rowdy children. Sunny couldn’t help but wonder if that was ever going to be an option for her, a family.
Pushing off the difficult question, Sunny approached the counter where a bored teen girl stood typing on her phone.
“Um… hi,” Sunny got her attention.
“Good evening, what can I getcha?” the girl said. It was obvious that she wanted to get back to whatever she had been doing but Sunny chose to ignore it.
“Can I get one hamburger with the lettuce wrap instead of the bun, a double bacon cheeseburger, a regular cheeseburger with no onions, three fries, and a strawberry milkshake to-go?” Sunny ordered. After watching the couple share the milkshake, she couldn’t help but crave one herself. The girl at the register rang her up and Sunny was left to wait for the order. She sat at one of the many empty tables, continuing to sneak glances at the other patrons.
The couple from earlier were now taking selfies, most likely to post about their date. The mom from the family was rocking the smallest of the children in an attempt to get her to sleep. The man in the corner seemed to have finished his meal, now looking at his phone as he slowly grabbed the jacket from the back of the seat. It was a calm night and Sunny appreciated it. It wasn’t every night where she could feel like a normal person just grabbing food for her boyfriend and friend.
Sunny’s order number was called out and she went to the counter to grab the food. It would take both hands to carry everything, but she didn’t mind. It would just be a little tougher once she got to the car. Approaching the door, she saw the businessman from the corner in her peripheral. He was leaving, as well, and quickened his pace to open the door for her. Sunny thanked him, passing through the now open door, and made the way back to her car.
But before she could reach the Cadillac she felt something sharp impale into the back of her neck. Within seconds, Sunny blacked out, the meals and milkshake falling from her hands onto the pavement. Sunny would have followed suit but before she could reach the ground a pair of arms scooped her up.

“Ugh, where’s Sunny? I’m starving,” Dean complained for what felt like the hundredth time. Sam rolled his eyes, looking at the clock to see that it had been 40 minutes. It must have been a busy night or something,
It was then that Sam’s phone rang. He glanced down at where it sat on the table, Sunny’s face lit up his screen. Sam pressed accept before bringing the device up to his ear.
“Hey, Sun. Where are you?” he asked. At first, he was met with silence until an unfamiliar voice spoke up.
“Sam Winchester. Sorry, Sunny can’t come to the phone right now. She’s a little… tied up,” a man’s voice said. Sam’s blood ran cold, adrenaline began to course through his veins.
“Where is she?” Sam hissed. Dean looked up at his brother’s words and upon seeing the anger in his eyes knew something was wrong.
“Oh, you’ll find out when I want you to. I just wanted to introduce myself, the name’s Roan,” the man, Roan, calmly said.
“Well, Roan if you touch a hair on her head I will kill you nice and slow,” Sam’s jaw clenched as he heard the man laugh on the other end.
“Not only will I touch her, but I plan on breaking her. Well, gotta go. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna kill her. You’ll get the coordinates once I’ve had my fun.” Before Sam could respond, Roan hung up the phone. Sam put the phone on the table gently, knowing that right now it was his only connection to Sunny. Stepping back, he ran his hands through his hair. He walked over to an empty table, flipping it as he roared. He began ripping books from the shelves, throwing them to the ground. Dean leapt from his seat, wrapping Sam up into a bear hug before he could hurt himself. Tears streamed down Sam’s face as Dean helped him into a chair.
“We need to save her,” Sam croaked. He couldn’t help but imagine the torment her kidnapper was planning. He was going to do everything in his power to stop it.
Summary: It was never what he thought he would have. But now Dean doesn’t want to let go.
Notes: I was going to wait and make this a Thanksgiving special, but I thought today would be more fitting. I can’t believe Supernatural ends tonight! This show has been a part of my life for a while now and it will forever stay in my heart. I had a really really good time writing this one. It might be one of my favorites I’ve written for Dean, if not my top pick. I hope you guys enjoy it and look forward to seeing more. Carry on.

Oh, take your time, don’t live to fast
Troubles will come and they will pass
He had slept through an alarm he didn’t remember setting. It wasn’t until he heard the creaking of the door that he stirred, reaching under his pillow for his knife. But it wasn’t there. Dean panicked as footsteps crept towards him. They were nothing more than a small pitter-patter on the wood floor, but he still prepared himself for the attack. The small creature leapt on top of him and he rolled over so he was pinning it beneath him. It giggled. It giggled?
“Daddy, Mom said she needs you in the kitchen.”
Dean leaned over to the night stand and turned on the lamp. A little green eyed girl squirmed out from underneath him and skipped out of the room.
“The hell…” Dean muttered. He opened the dresser and sure enough, his clothes sat in the drawers. He put on a T-shirt and slowly walked out of the room. The smell of bacon and coffee coaxed him to the kitchen. He couldn’t believe what he saw.
You were standing over the stove, trying to save the bacon from burning. Dean was just frozen in the doorway. Finally spotting him, you made your way over to him, which was difficult with the little boy clinging to your leg.
“Thank God you’re up. I need you to finish making breakfast.” You lifted the boy into your arms. “Eric’s got a fever and Ellie is going to wake up any second needing to be fed.” You gently laid a hand on Eric’s forehead. “I’ll call the doctor as soon as I get him to lay down. But you know how impossible that is.”
“But I’m not tired.” Eric whined.
“I know, sweetie, but you don’t want to get sicker, do you?” He pouted his lip and shook his head. “Alright, so I need you to go back to bed.” You looked back at Dean. “Can you just finish the bacon? I’ll be back to make their toast.”
Before Dean could speak, you rushed up the stairs. As if on queue, a baby started to cry from somewhere upstairs. Dean just stood in shock. What the hell was going on?

A/N: Hello, a break in my series posting to give y’all a comfort one shot. I am currently in a depressive episode so this is how I am coping with some of those feelings. Much love, Sarah.
Walking past the kitchen, you could hear the sound of the water running. Peaking your head through the doorway, you saw Dean with suds up to his elbows. He was doing the dishes, which was originally a job that you had agreed to take on. Recently, it had been hard to keep up. You were just so tired.
It wasn’t that you were incapable, you were just unmotivated. Doing small tasks like washing dishes and showering seemed like hiking up a mountain. Instead, your bed called out to you. Dean had asked a few times now if you were doing okay and of course, you said yes. It wasn’t like you were doing bad, it was just… exhausting. Once you were in bed with multiple blankets, you were fine. Your mind could rest. Anything else and it felt like you had weights tied to your body, dragging you down.
This used to happen a lot before you met the Winchesters. When you lived in a studio apartment in your early 20s, you would go weeks without cleaning anything. Dust would collect and dishes would pile up but you just couldn’t bring yourself to care. But now, you weren’t living alone. The bunker was a shared space and you weren’t doing your part to keep it clean.
You quickly slipped out of the kitchen, not wanting Dean to notice you. It was already embarrassing enough to have him clean up your mess. You didn’t deserve Dean or any of the others that called you their friend. Dean was your boyfriend, but lately, you felt like he was your caretaker. He was always having to clean up after you, to comfort you. You didn’t understand why he stayed with you. There were no benefits for him, no reason to keep you around. You were a burden, a mess. You couldn’t even do a simple daily chore.
Grabbing a towel, you went to take a shower. Turning the knob all the way, you let the room fill with steam. Stripping off your clothes, you avoided looking into the mirror. It wasn’t about being insecure with your body, you just didn’t want the reminder that you were a person. At least if you didn’t look down, you could just let yourself fade for a few minutes. Stepping into the shower, the water burned hot on your skin, making it tingle and go numb. You sat down, not having the energy or desire to stand. The water cascaded down your back as you curled into a tight ball, bringing your knees to your chest. Silent tears fell from your eyes. You sat there for a long time, blessing the bunker for its seemingly endless supply of hot water. You let your mind run in circles, an endless supply of self-deprecation playing on a loop. A knock interrupted it.
“Y/N?” you could hear Dean’s voice through the bathroom door. You just laid your chin on your knees, not saying a thing. “Y/N, you’ve been in there a long time. Are you okay?” Again, you were silent. “Okay, if you don’t say anything I’m coming in.”
“I’m fine,” you said just loud enough for Dean to hear. He rolled his eyes, knowing that must be a lie.
“Bullshit, I’m coming in anyway,” Dean warned. The door opened and you kicked yourself for not locking it. Like that would stop him, though. He was more than willing to kick it down. He saw you sitting on the floor of the shower and concern etched itself into his face. He made quick work of taking off his clothes, joining you. He sat behind you, his legs open on either side of you. He grabbed your shoulders, leaning you back to his chest. “Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”
You didn’t say anything. The question alone brought more tears to your eyes and you weren’t sure if you would be able to hold it together if you began to explain.
“Baby, please. Talk to me, I’m worried,” Dean whispered in your ear. He wrapped his arms around you, hugging you.
“The dishes were my job,” you said softly.
“I’m confused. You’re sad because I did the dishes?” Dean asked. He didn’t have any judgment in his voice. He just wanted to understand.
“No, I’m sad… I’m mad… that I didn’t. That I let them sit out for so long that you felt you might as well do them. That I can’t do the one simple fucking job,” you shook your head.
“Sweetheart…” Dean started.
“No! Please, don’t try and make me feel better,” you turned in his arms, now facing him. “You always have to do that, make me feel better. I’m such a goddamn burden on you. You are always having to clean up my messes and I hate it. I hate that I can’t be enough. I hate that I want to be better but I just can’t seem to get there. I feel like I’m so close to being okay but I’m still just not. You, Sam, Jack, and Cas, you guys are amazing and kind and awesome. I just weigh you guys down. I’m a job, another chore you have.”
“Hey, no!” Dean grabbed the sides of your face, making you look at him. “I don’t help you because I have to. It is because I want to. I love you, Y/N. I choose you because I love you. I did the dishes so that you weren’t having to stare at them, so you wouldn’t have to beat yourself up until you did them.”
“Yeah, but…”
“No, no buts. Only your cute butt,” Dean joked. You gave him a small smile. “Y/N, I know you want to do everything, that you want to be the perfect girlfriend for me, the perfect roommate and bestie to the others. That is what matters. Not that you can’t be, because sweetheart no one is perfect. But you care, you want to be amazing. That alone makes you amazing. It makes you good, it makes you the woman I love. This… thing, this problem that you have, it is not your fault. You didn’t decide to be depressed, to have no energy or motivation. Like any other illness, I am here to take care of you. That’s what you do for people you love when they are sick. You take care of them and hope that what you’re doing makes them feel even the smallest bit better.
Y/N, you know that I wouldn’t let anyone be cruel to you. That includes you. I won’t sit here and let you beat yourself up over something you have no control over. Something that you work so hard to fight. You are doing the best you can and that will always be enough for me. You are enough for me. So, I’ll do the dishes and I’ll sit in showers and I’ll hold you when you need me to. I would move mountains for you, sweetheart. This is the small stuff.” He rested a hand on your neck, pulling you into a sweet kiss. You sniffled as you pulled away. You were still crying, but for a different reason now.
“Thank you, Dean. I needed this,” you said.
“Anytime, now we should get out of here and dry off. You look like a giant prune,” Dean laughed. You smiled. He stood and offered his hand to you, helping you up. Grabbing a towel, he dried you off and then himself. The two of you went to the bedroom you shared and got dressed in your comfiest clothes.

Near the end of the day, the three hunters had decided to meet up at the local diner to discuss their findings. Dean had been to the police station, local bars, even checking out the alleyways looking for men with sinning tendencies. Sunny and Sam had talked with many of the townspeople, posing as journalists who were looking for extraordinary women. Sitting at a booth, they began to trade information.
“I have, like, four town drunks,” Dean said before listing their names. “Oh, and there is this one dude who I caught snorting coke off of a bar bathroom sink.” Both Sam and Sunny were equally disturbed by the information. Bars were not known for their cleanliness, that was for sure.
“Well, we found a couple of women who seem to fit the profile,” Sunny started, looking to Sam so he could continue.
“There is a woman who is a sports coach for teens with disabilities, one who plants gardens around the city to make it look nice, a lady who bakes cookies for those staying in the hospital, and the last one just recently came home from a trip to Africa where she built ten houses for those in need,” Sam explained.
“Well, damn. Those are some do-gooders. So what, we just trail the people until the demon shows?” Dean asked. The three sat in silence, no one knowing where to go from there.
“Why don’t we follow the women? So far it’s one man, one woman and so on. The last that died was a man,” Sunny pitched the idea to the guys.
“There are four women and three of us,” Sam pointed out.
“I think Garden Lady can be counted out for now. Yeah, she is doing good but not at the scale the other three are,” Sunny shrugged. The two men agreed. Tomorrow, they were each going to tail one woman and call the others if they found anything.

Sam had been watching a basketball practice for almost two hours now, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. He watched as the kids all left the court, getting their things, and starting to leave. Taking the opportunity, he decided to approach the coach.
“Hi, um, Jeanine?” Sam asked, getting the woman’s attention.
“Yep that’s me, and you are?” Jeanine smiled.
“My name is Sam, I’m a freelance journalist and I am currently writing a piece about extraordinary women. I asked around town and your name came up a lot. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions?” Sam asked, taking on the role that he and Sunny had the day before.
“Why, sure! The people around town are just the sweetest,” Jeanine shook her head slightly. It was obvious that she wasn’t one to boast about her efforts. She motioned to a bench nearby, her and Sam sitting and facing each other.
“So, Jeanine, what made you want to teach teens with disabilities?” Sam asked. He wanted to ask demon-related questions but knew it would probably be best to start simple.
“I might not look like it, but I’m disabled myself. I have POTS and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. When I was a kid I really enjoyed going out and being active until I kept getting sprains and injuries. I tried pushing through it but began fainting at random times as well. It was then that I saw a doctor and was officially diagnosed. I asked if I could continue playing sports, but was immediately shut down. My doctor basically said that people with disabilities can’t play sports. I decided that was ridiculous, so I started finding ways to play the sports I loved while also keeping safe. As I grew older, I realized that I wanted to help other kids do that too. When you have a disability you are always told what you can’t do. I decided to focus on what they can.”
“Wow, that’s really great. How has the reaction been of those in town? People must love what you are doing,” Sam said.
“Almost everyone is fantastic about it! I have parents that volunteer to bring snacks for all types of diets, the community here really cares about one another. I do have a few people, however, that don’t like what I’m doing. They say I am getting these kids’ hopes up for no reason or that they are just going to get hurt,” Jeanine sighed. It was obvious that these types of people annoyed her greatly.
“Who would be against this kind of thing? Do they bother you?”
“Well,” Jeanine took a second to choose her words carefully. It was going to be in an article, after all, “I have had one woman that won’t give up. She had tried just about everything to get my programs shut down. She doesn’t even have a reason, it can feel like she has it out for me.” Sam’s eyebrows raised Jeanine’s answer. This could be the lead he was hoping for.
“Off the record, who is this crazy lady?” Sam asked. Jeanine hesitated, not wanting to annoy the woman even farther. He gave her his sympathetic puppy-dog eyes and she folded.
“Name’s Brandi Thomas,” Jeanine told him. The two continued to chat for a few more minutes before Sam excused himself. Walking away from the bench, he sent a text to his two partners. He was going to leave Jeanine to go investigate Brandi. He got two confirmations before heading to the nearby payphone to look at the yellow pages.

After finding Brandi’s address, it didn’t take long until he was on her front door. The mailbox was filled to the brim and it looked like there hadn’t been any visitors to the house in a long time. Sam patted his jacket, feeling the demon blade that was tucked into this inside pocket. He had a feeling that he was in the right place. Bringing his knuckles to the wood, he gave a few loud knocks. Sam could hear the footsteps as someone approached the door. It swung open, revealing a middle-aged woman with black hair and piercing blue eyes.
“Yes?” the woman asked, her voice conveying her slight annoyance.
“Hi there, my name is Sam. I am a freelance journalist reporting about those who use other’s disabilities for their own gain. I heard that you might be the perfect person to talk to about Jeanine?” Sam said. The woman’s eyebrows raised in curiosity.
“Brandi,” she said, offering a hand for Sam to shake, “come on in.” She ushered Sam into the home, closing the door behind him. He took the opportunity to pretend he tripped on the rug that sat in the entryway.
“Jesus Christo!” He said, looking in his peripheral. Brandi twitched, her eyes turning a jet black. Sam’s hand went to his jacket pocket, pulling out the blade. The demon saw the glint of the metal, quickly shoving Sam in an attempt to get away. Before Brandi could get far, Sam tackled her onto the ground, stabbing the demon blade into the center of her chest. It was like her skeleton was a glow stick, lighting up orange as the life drained from the demon. Sam stood and wiped the knife off on the lifeless body’s jeans before tucking it back into his jacket pocket. Adrenaline was still pumping through his veins as he cleaned up the corpse, wiping down any surface that might have his handprints on it.
Exiting the house, he pulled out his phone and told the other two that he had dealt with the bitch. They could meet back at the hotel, pack up, and head home.

“I wonder why the demon went after the shitty guys too. I mean, the good people make sense; demons want to watch the world burn. Why the sinners though?” Sunny questioned as she shoved her clothes back into her duffel bag. It was something she had been pondering all day.
“Who gives a shit? The bitch is dead,” Dean shrugged. Sunny tossed him a look before resuming packing. Of course, Dean wouldn’t care. He usually left a hunt behind as soon as the monster was rotting in Purgatory. Sunny and Sam, on the other hand, wanted to understand each aspect of a case. The question nagged at Sunny, but she decided to drop it as she felt Sam’s hands snake around her waist. He kissed the back of her head before leaning down to rest his chin on her shoulder.
“You know, maybe she had a bad ex,” Sam joked. Sunny couldn’t help but chuckle along with him. Turning her head, she gave him a quick peck on the lips before stepping out of his arms.
“Let’s get going, Mr. Lucky,” Sunny teased. Sam picked up her duffel bag, along with his, and began to follow her out to the Impala.
“Mr. Lucky?” Dean questioned.
“Yep,” Sunny looked to the older brother, “it’s short for Mr. Getting Lucky Tonight.” She stuck out her tongue as Dean pretended to gag. Looking over at Sam, she winked. He gave her a grin, his eyes raking over her body.
The car ride to the bunker was going to be torture for them all. Sam and Sunny would have to resist taking each other in the Impala’s back seat and Dean would have to resist puking at the thought.

“Hey, Sunny. We found a case. You want to come?” Sam offered as he walked into the library. Sunny had been immersed in a book of zombie lore but hearing the word ‘case’ caught her attention.
“Yes! Yeah, yes yes!” Sunny answered excitedly. Sam laughed, nodding.
“Okay, we leave in 10. Pack for a few days,” Sam said. He left to go to the kitchen, leaving Sunny to hustle to her room. She grabbed her empty duffel bag from under the bed, shoving some clothes into the bag. She made sure to put a mix of hunting clothes and a couple of nicer outfits in case they went undercover. Sunny walked up to her nightstand, looking fondly at the photos that sat there.
“I’ll see you guys later,” she smiled, kissing two of her fingers before touching each photo. This was a ritual that Sunny had set in place soon after her family had died. While she knew that her family was gone for good, she couldn’t help but talk to them sometimes. There were times when she would just talk to her sister about the hot guy at the bar or telling her dad a joke. It brought Sunny comfort.
Reaching the Impala, she saw Dean on the driver’s side, waiting for her and Sam. Sunny looked around for Sam, but he must still be packing. Laughing to herself, she hopped into the passenger seat for the first time. Dean looked over and laughed.
“Sammy won’t be happy about this,” Dean pointed out.
“Well, now he gets the pleasure of staring at me the whole trip,” Sunny winked. It was then that Sam walked into the garage. He approached the passenger side and stopped, surprised to see his seat taken. Sunny rolled the window down, looking up at him. “Hello, can I help you?”
“Wow,” Sam said in mock offense, “how dare you.” Sunny giggled as Sam made his way into the backseat. Dean turned to face his brother, one arm resting on the back of the bench seat.
“Www-chhhhh,” Dean mimicked the motion of a whip. Sunny gave Dean a small shove, trying to hide a laugh. Sam simply rolled his eyes at his brother’s teasing. He was used to it. Dean turned to face forward, reversing the car out of the garage. Sunny bent down to pick up the Impala’s cassette collection. She looked through the titles, smiling when she found one that had been shoved to the bottom. She slid it into the player and turned up the volume.
It didn’t take long for the familiar upbeat electric guitar to flow through the car’s speakers. Dean was already speeding down the road but the music broke his focus. He whipped his head to look at Sunny as the lyrics started.

Before the first verse could even finish, Dean pressed the eject button. He kept eye contact with Sunny as he rolled down the window, grabbed the cassette, and chucked it out of the car.
“Dean -” Sunny started to complain but was quickly interrupted.
“NO HALL & OATES IN BABY,” Dean yelled. He reached into the box of tapes, pulling one out at random. Soon the tunes of AC/DC filled the car. Sam and Sunny sat in shock at first before bursting into laughter. Dean quickly joined them, chuckling as he continued onto the highway.
“Okay, so what is the case boys?” Sunny asked, her eyes shifting between the brothers.
“Blair, Nebraska. We already have six bodies waiting for us in the city’s morgue. They have all been brutally murdered, some were stabbed while others had their neck snapped.” Sam explained.
“Couldn’t this just be a serial killer?” Sunny asked.
“At first, it looked that way. But for a couple of the victims, their families have described a rotten egg smell in the home. One had even been visited by an electrician that morning after complaining that the lights in her home had been flickering even after replacing the light bulbs,” Sam gave a knowing look at Sunny.
“So we’ve got ourselves a demon,” Sunny said.
“Yep, one with an anger management problem it seems.”

The drive to Blair, Nebraska was relatively short. Within four hours they had arrived at the city’s only motel. It was small, with only about a dozen rooms. The three checked in, only getting one room. Sam and Sunny had discussed it and decided to share a bed on hunting trips. They weren’t sharing one back at the bunker, but Sam felt better knowing that Sunny was in the same room when there was a dangerous monster roaming about. He knew that she was an incredible hunter, maybe even better than him, but didn’t want to take the risk. That was fine by Sunny as she liked knowing that Sam was safe as well.
Going into the room, they all quickly changed into their FBI gear. They were all wearing suits by the time they had climbed back into the Impala. Sunny wasn’t a big fan of her gray pantsuit, wishing she could wear something brighter instead; she knew that neutral colors were best if she wanted to be taken seriously.

“Please tell me that you guys got some info on this demon,” Dean groaned as he flopped onto the motel bed. They had decided early on to split up, each covering two of the victim’s families. Each hunter got barely any information that could lead to the motive behind these murders. None of them had any major successes within the last ten years, so a demon deal was quickly eliminated from the list.
“So I have a pediatric surgeon who recently gave a pro bono surgery to a child with cancer and a high school football coach with a nicotine addiction and a tendency to sleep with cheerleaders,” Sunny told the boys.
“The older woman, Marge, volunteered at her church and had a book club. I also met the very distraught mother of the dead teenager. He was constantly in trouble and his browsing history was filled with porn,” Sam stated. Dean raised his eyebrows in approval at the mention of the teen’s pornography habits.
“I got the woman that ran the non-profit and knit caps for newborn babies and a man who had a bad gambling debt. Like 100,000 dollars worth of debt,” Dean said dully. There wasn’t much to go on and the boys thought that they had hit a roadblock. That was until Sunny spoke up.
“Wait guys, I think I found a pattern. We have three women who were giving and kind, amazing people. Then we have three guys that are on the bad side of things,” Sunny said. The boys’ faces lit up in understanding.
“So, sinners and saints?” Sam asked, looking at the other two.
“It’s weird but we’ve seen weirder,” Dean pointed out. Sam nodded in agreement.
“So tomorrow, we just research what? Awesome women and shitty men?” Sam asked.
“Sounds hard to narrow down,” Sunny laughed. Both of the brothers looked at her as if they were deeply offended. It didn’t last long, with both guys agreeing. The three of them got ready for bed, deciding to call it a night. They had been working all day and tomorrow would likely be the same.
Dean fell asleep quickly, his snores filling the motel room. The sound was like a white noise machine was playing so Sunny and Sam weren’t bothered by it. It wasn’t long until they were also in deep sleep, their cuddling keeping them warm throughout the night.

“Rise and Shine, lovers!” Dean yelled out from the foot of the bed that Sam and Sunny were sharing. They both groaned at the older brother, Sam throwing a pillow at him. “Hey, Woah. Is that any way to treat the man who got you coffee?”
Sam shot out of bed, quickly grabbing the cup from Dean’s hand. The brothers both shared a slight caffeine addiction, using coffee to get through the day. Sunny, on the other hand, often preferred tea. Dean had remembered that fact and handed her a cup of Earl Grey.
“Thanks, Dean,” Sunny inhaled the enticing aroma. Dean sat down on his bed, looking at the other two hunters.
“So, how do we find the next victims?” Dean asked. It was a question that none of them truly knew the answer to.
“Um… maybe we can just ask around town? See what the gossip is?” Sunny offered. She wished that there was something more concrete, but this was all they had at the moment.
“Yeah, I guess. I’ll check out the police station, see if they have any repeat offenders,” Dean said.
“Okay, Sunny and I will look for some do-gooders,” Sam shrugged. Dean nodded, going to the bathroom to get ready. It didn’t take long, putting on the fed suit once again because he was going to the police station. Sunny and Sam, on the other hand, got to dress casually. Sunny was glad to leave behind the pantsuit, trading it in for a light blue, knee-length sundress with buttons down the front and pockets.
“Wow, you are beautiful,” Sam said at the sight of her. She could feel a blush crawling up her cheeks as she gave him a large grin.
“Why, thank you,” Sunny gave a small curtsy. Sam laughed, offering his hand for her to take. The two, now hand-in-hand, left the motel room to walk towards the town’s center. The city was small so they would be fine without a car. In fact, Sunny found it rather enjoyable. The sun was shining down on them, the slight breeze keeping them from overheating.
It was difficult to focus on the case at hand as both were distracted by one another. Sam couldn’t think of a time that he was this happy. Looking down at her, he couldn’t believe his luck. Her eyes were closed, letting the sun wash over her face and trusting Sam to guide her. He was in awe of Sunny, how she takes something as small as the sun on her face and lets it fill her with joy. Her eyes fluttered open to meet Sam’s.
“What?” she asked.
“Nothing, I was just thinking about how I am the luckiest man alive,” Sam said matter-of-factly. Sunny let out a giggle that made his heart skip a beat.
“Okay, Mr. Luck. We gotta focus up, finish this case and I’ll show you just how lucky you are,” Sunny winked and gave his hand a squeeze. Sam’s eyebrows raised, his tongue darting out to lick his lips.
“Let’s get to work then,” Sam said with determination as he increased his pace. Sunny laughed as she attempted to catch up with him and his long legs.

“Welcome to your first training session, boys” Sunny said as she entered the bunker’s training room. It had a mat covering the entire floor, making it a safer option compared to the rest of the bunker’s concrete flooring.
Sunny walked up to Sam, giving him a quick kiss before stepping back to look at both brothers. Since their date the other night, they had been inseparable. Dean liked to make fun of them, but he was truly happy for his brother. He wasn’t sure he had ever seen Sam this happy before.
Sunny had been working hard on finding ways to teach her ‘technique.’ She still wasn’t positive that it could be taught but she knew that the brothers were incredibly skilled hunters. If anyone could learn from her, it was them.
“Okay, so I want you two to close your eyes,” she instructed. Both of the brothers followed her instruction. Dean was already skeptical, preparing himself for Sunny to pull out the singing bowls and yoga mats. He didn’t complain, though, reminding himself of her skills.
“Take a few deep breaths, center yourself. Try to focus on how your body feels. Simply notice if there is any tension or pain. Once you do that, I want you to start tilting your head to the side, stretching it. Go slowly and notice what you feel. The muscles and skin, imagine your cells shifting as you move. Keep doing that,” Sunny watched as the boys slowly began to relax. Usually, they both stood in ways that most people would describe as tense. Sam had perfect posture, sometimes looking unnatural and Dean looked like a cat that was ready to pounce. He was always ready for a fight.
Sunny continued to speak, guiding the brothers through different stretches. She had them tense specific muscles and release them, all the while telling them to notice how it felt. That was the main part of hunting, awareness. Most hunters fell short, being only aware of what happened around them and not of what was happening within them.
It didn’t take long for Sam and Dean to get used to the instructions, following them without much thought. It was as if they were in a trance, letting Sunny control their every move.
“Okay, open your eyes.” The boys slowly blinked open their eyes, adjusting to the light. “How do you feel?”
“Um… weird,” Dean said.
“Fluid?” Sam answered hesitantly. Both of them couldn’t seem to describe exactly how they felt.
“Okay, no wrong answers. That’s perfect. Now I’m gonna try an exercise with each of you, one at a time. Dean let’s try you first,” Sunny smiled as Dean cautiously stepped forward. “So what I’m gonna do is I will slowly move a hand closer to you. All you have to do is block it.”
“Sounds easy enough,” Dean shrugged.
“Close your eyes,” Sunny told him. His eyebrows creased at the command, realizing it may not be as easy as he had thought. “Also, because I’m going slowly you won’t be able to hear me. The two of you rely heavily on your sense of sight and hearing. It is what alerts you to a potential threat. So let’s see if you can block me without that.”
Dean nodded, letting her know that he was ready. Slowly, she brought up her hand to hover over his right shoulder without him moving an inch.
“Open your eyes,” she instructed. He did, surprised to see that the hand next to him. “Close,”
This time, she brought a hand towards his left cheek. Dean took a step to the right, the gap between them increasing. He opened his eyes, smiling to himself.
“What did you notice then?” Sunny asked.
“It felt, I don’t know, heavier by my left side. Like there was something taking up room.” Dean shrugged. He wasn’t confident in his answer, but Sunny’s smile confirmed his answer.
“That’s great. Don’t worry about phrasing things in a perfect way or explaining it clearly. All you need is to acknowledge that something was different. That is a great start. Let’s do it once more and then we’ll let Sam have a try.”
Dean’s eyes closed once more, Sunny raising her hand and moving it to the front of his face. Slowly, Dean’s own arm moved up to block it. He opened his eyes, grinning at the sight of his success.
“That’s great, Dean!” It was clear that Dean was able to sense the movement, it would just take a while before speed became a factor. Currently, he had about a 10-second lag that a hunter couldn’t spare. Regardless, Sunny was proud.
Sam stepped up next, giving Sunny a smile before closing his eyes and focusing. Sunny moved her hand next to his elbow and watched as his arm flinched.
“Open,” Sunny said. Sam listened, his eyes opening to see the hand next to his arm. “So, did you know my hand was there?”
“No.”
“Well, your body did. Your arm flinched. Follow the instinct. It isn’t conscious. You just have to listen to what your body is trying to say,” Sunny gave Sam a comforting smile before he closed his eyes again. Sam was naturally good at almost everything, so when he couldn’t grasp a concept it frustrated him to no end. That was the problem though; he was distracted, in his own head.
Again, Sunny moved her hand close to the tall man, stopping before she touched his sternum. This time Sam shifted a foot back, turning away from her hand. He opened his eyes and nodded, still not satisfied with his progress. They repeated this pattern five more times, Sam still not being able to fully block her hand.
“Okay, Sam that was great,” Sunny placed her hand on his shoulder. “I think that’s enough for today. We will start again tomorrow.”
“Why? I could keep going,” Sam huffed. He felt as if he was failing to meet the expectation Dean had set.
“Because, Sam, you’re getting more and more upset. The whole point is to steer away from distractions. It’s okay, you’ll get it. I know you will,” Sunny attempted to console Sam, but it was clear he wasn’t having it. He nodded, looking at the floor, before walking out of the mat room. Sunny looked to Dean. “I wish he didn’t feel bad about this. He is making progress!”
“Sammy likes to feel capable,” Dean shrugged, “he just wants to know that he can do it.”
Sunny nodded, thinking to herself of ways that she might be able to help Sam. She was stubborn too and wasn’t about to let Sam beat himself up. Leaving the mat room, she walked in the direction of his bedroom. Sam opened it at the sound of her knocking, stepping back to let her in.
“You don’t need to try and make me feel better,” Sam frowned.
“Close your eyes,” Sunny replied softly. Sam’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“I thought you said we were done for the day?”
“Just… okay? Do it,” Sunny instructed. Sam reluctantly shut his eyes and couldn’t help but think that he was going to fail again. Sunny, however, was sure he would succeed. With light steps, she moved her whole body forward towards the man. She made no sound, stopping just before their bodies touched. Sam could feel her, his breath hitching as he made the realization. Slowly, he raised one of his hands to wrap around the back of her neck. The other made its way to her cheek. He pulled her in, leaning down to kiss her. They stood like that for a few seconds before parting. Sam gave Sunny a grateful look.
“I knew you could do it,” Sunny gave Sam a cheeky grin. “I wouldn’t suggest doing that with monsters, though.”
“Nope, only you,” he chuckled, kissing her again. “Thank you. I get so annoyed with myself and really needed that.” Her eyes sparkled, Sam once again losing himself in them.
“Sam, it’s me and you now. I’m here whenever you need me,” Sunny smiled. He pulled her into a hug, his chin resting on the top of her head. The two held each other for a few minutes, enjoying each other’s company. Sam kissed her head before leaning back to look at her.
“So… movie?” He asked. Sunny chuckled, nodding and letting Sam lead the way. The two walked down the hall towards the Dean-Cave.
“Dean!” Sunny shouted down the hallway, “Wanna watch a movie with us?”
“Yeah!” Dean replied from behind his bedroom door. Sam and Sunny chuckled as they heard Dean hustle to catch up with them. The three made themselves comfortable, Sunny on Sam’s lap in the recliner. Everyone had a different idea of what movie to watch, arguing about it for ten minutes before both brothers conceded. Smiling like always, Sunny grabbed the remote and put on Sleepless in Seattle.

“Okay… I’ll have to admit that movie was good,” Dean said. He looked over to the couple only to find that they had both fallen asleep. Sam had Sunny completely wrapped up in his arms, Sunny’s face burrowed into his chest. Dean smiled to himself. It was cute, he had to admit that. Turning off the TV, he quietly made his way out of the room to let the couple rest.
Dean had wanted this for his brother since Jessica died. He was happy that it was Sunny, someone who brought out the best in both of the brothers. All he could hope was that it stayed this way.

The three had decided to wait to start training, giving Sunny a chance to get settled into life at the bunker. She adjusted smoothly and it soon felt like she had always been with them. It was only a few days after Sam had asked her out that the date was planned. Sam had been ruminating over what the plans should be. He didn’t want something bland but he also worried about overdoing it. He just wanted everything to be perfect for her.
It was finally the night of the big date and Sam was feeling pretty confident about the plans he had formed. He went over them with Dean earlier to make sure it sounded good. The only note Dean gave was adding ‘sexy times’ to the itinerary, to which Sam smacked his brother on the back of the head. He wasn’t trying to seduce her, but woo her.
He had instructed Sunny to wear a dress, heels optional. She was glad to hear that, as she had plenty of dresses that she knew would work well. After about 20 minutes of contemplation, she decided on a satin wrap dress. It was beautiful jade green, with a slight ruffle along the bottom. It landed mid-thigh, with a faux slit where the dress folded over itself to wrap around. The dress had thin straps and showed off just the right amount of cleavage. Sunny paired the dress with a deep grey pair of chunky heels. They were much more comfortable than pumps but still gave her a height boost.
Sam had let her know that he would ‘pick her up’ in the War Room at 7. It was cute, especially because their rooms were right across from one another. As Sunny made her way through the library, she bumped into Dean.
“Wow, Sunny. Sam isn’t gonna know what hit him,” Dean said upon seeing her. It was the first time the boys had seen her all dolled-up. Dean’s reaction boosted Sunny’s confidence in her outfit choice. She thanked Dean before leaving him to go meet Sam. Upon walking into the War Room, her jaw almost dropped right off of her face.
Sam was standing there in dark grey slacks, a white button-up, and a dark grey blazer. He was the perfect mix between casual and formal, the blazer unbuttoned and a tie nowhere to be seen. Sunny found a well-dressed man incredibly sexy, especially when that man was Sam.
Sam looked up at the sound of Sunny’s heels and almost passed out at the sight of her. She was fucking gorgeous. Her dress showed off a bit of skin, revealing the toned legs that he had yet to see. And of course, she was wearing the smile that took his breath away every time he saw it.
“Wow, you look stunning,” Sam exhaled as Sunny got closer to him. She couldn’t help but blush at the compliment.
“You don’t look too bad yourself,” she responded, giving him a smirk. Sam couldn’t help but lick his lips, his eyes raking over her. He did his best to focus, knowing that if he kept staring he may never stop.
“So, you ready?” Sam offered his hand, to which Sunny gladly took. The two of them walked to the bunker’s garage. Sam led her to a deep red classic Mustang convertible. Guiding her to the passenger side, he opened the door for her. He made his way back around the driver’s seat, getting behind the wheel of the car. Soon they were pulling out of the garage and into the night.
The car’s top was down, which went perfectly with the warm summer night. The radio began to play “My Girl” by The Temptations and the two couldn’t help but share a smile. Sam didn’t say it out loud, but it was exactly how he felt about Sunny. She made him feel amazing every time the two were together. The last week with her felt like the best he had ever had. Sam was already falling hard for her. It was frightening and exciting all at the same time.
It wasn’t long before Sam was pulling the car into a restaurant’s parking lot. He had done plenty of research before choosing this one. It was more upscale than he was used to, which made it the perfect date spot. After parking, Sam was quick to the other side of the car to open the door for Sunny once again. She couldn’t help but feel her heart swoon. Sure, she was a strong, independent woman but she also adored the effort Sam was putting in to make her feel special.
The two entered the restaurant, Sam informing the hostess of his reservation. A second later, they were being ushered into the depths of the dining area. It was a gorgeous place, the lighting low giving it an intimate feel. Tables surrounded a large dance floor, where Sunny could see couples swaying along to slow songs. She had a feeling that she would be out on the floor soon enough.
Sitting, they began to glance over the menu. Sunny couldn’t help but be shocked by the prices of each item. Sure, hunters lived off of credit card scams, but even so, she tended to live life on a budget.
“Hello, can I get you two started on anything to drink?” A waiter asked, appearing a few minutes after they sat. Sam looked over at Sunny.
“Want to share a bottle of wine? You’re choice, I enjoy all kinds,” He offered. She smiled before looking back at the waiter.
“We’ll have a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc,” Sunny ordered. The waiter nodded before leaving to go fetch the wine.
“So, a white wine drinker?” Sam asked.
“Red is too bitter for my taste, I have a bit of sweet tooth,” Sunny admitted.
“Why am I not surprised?” Sam chuckled. Her personality seemed to match her tastes almost to a tee.
The conversation continued to flow between the two, each sharing bits about themselves that the other might not know. Sam told her what it was like growing up in the hunting life, while Sunny explained how boring normal life could be. They both slightly envied what the other had. Sam wanted the predictability while Sunny preferred the freedom that he had in youth.
They both shared about their family and friends who they had lost, laughed over embarrassing stories, and flirted relentlessly. If anyone had looked in on the two, they would have thought that they had been a couple for years. Time flew by for the two, dinner finished before they knew it. Once the bill was paid, Sam stood and offered a hand to Sunny.
“May I have this dance?” Sam asked with a smile. It was cheesy and Sunny loved it.
“You may,” she giggled, taking his hand. He led them onto the dance floor as the song “The Way You Look Tonight” by Tony Bennett began to play. Sam wrapped his arms around Sunny’s waist, her wrists hooking together behind his neck. The two began to sway along to the music.

Sam felt as if each word of this song was for her. He was mesmerized by her. Not just her beauty but her intelligence, compassion, and kindness. As they danced, their eyes couldn’t seem to stray from the other’s. It was as if they were drowning in one another, not wanting to breathe again.

If someone had looked close enough, they may have seen it. Right then, on this dance floor, as they held one another, both Sam and Sunny began to fall in love. As the song ended, another began. It was “At Last,” by Etta James.
At last, my love has come along
My lonely days are over and life is like a song, oh yeah
Yet another song that fits perfectly for the couple. Honestly, most love songs would speak to them at that moment. As they swayed together, it was as if Sam and Sunny were the only ones in existence. There were no monsters, no demons or angels, nothing. Only the two of them, holding one another.
Leaning his head down, Sam closed the gap between the two. If sparks were ever to fly, now would be the time. The kiss was perfect, soft, and slow. It left both parties breathless.
You smiled, you smiled oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last
Sunny leaned into Sam’s chest, letting him hold her tight as they continued to dance. Neither could tell how many songs had passed when Sam whispered into her ear.
“Be mine?” his voice was tentative. Sam felt vulnerable as if he was offering for Sunny to take his heart in her hands. She leaned back to look into his eyes once more. The look they shared was passionate.
“I’m yours,” she whispered back. It wasn’t long until they were sharing another kiss. This one was even better than the last. It was saying everything that was currently being left unsaid. It told Sunny how Sam was constantly in awe of her strength and resilience. It told Sam that Sunny may be a happy person, but had never felt happier than when she was with him.
It said the fear of falling for someone so fast. It said that the fear was worth it. It said how it was as if they had been waiting for one another all of their lives. It said that they felt complete when together. It said joy, passion, excitement, hope.

Driving back to Lebanon went a lot faster than expected. Sam attributed it to the anticipation he felt at the thought of talking to Sunny again. Looking at her car in the rearview was nice, but not nearly good enough. Every once in awhile, he would catch Dean smirking at him and honestly didn’t blame him. Sam had a total crush on the woman.
The two classic cars pulled into the bunker’s garage, one right next to the other. Sunny was already fascinated with the brother’s home base. The garage had about a dozen different cars, all in mint condition.
She exited the car, pulling out her duffel bag from the back seat. Everything she owned fit inside of it, aside from the weapons that were expertly organized in the trunk. Sunny watched as the brothers grabbed their things and ushered her to the door that leads to the bunker’s interior. Sunny was surprised to see how spacious the place was and was excited to explore it.
“Wow, it’s just the two of you here?” she asked, looking towards the men. It seemed like there could be room for over a dozen people.
“Yeah, well, we like to take in strays, now and then. You’ll probably meet Cas at some point, so don’t be surprised if you find a man in a trench coat wandering around. He sometimes stays here as well,” Dean told her.
“So is that me? One of your strays?” Sunny joked to the older brother.
“Nah. You’re our Yoda,” Dean smirked. The three of them made their way down the staircase and Dean split off from the two, giving his brother a wink before heading to his room. Sam bit back an insult to his brother, instead offering to carry Sunny’s duffel.
“How ‘bout you pick out a room and then I can give you the rest of the tour?” Sam asked, to which Sunny responded with an enthusiastic nod. Sam motioned for her to follow, showing the way to his side of the bunker. Walking down the hallway, Sam stopped in front of a door.
“So, this one is mine right here,” Sam said, giving his bedroom door a small smack. “You can choose any empty room, they are all basically identical so whatever works for you.”
“I’ll take this one,” Sunny said as she opened the door across the hall. She was met with a basic room, bare apart from the furniture. Sam couldn’t help but smile. He had been hoping that she would choose one close to his. The two walked into Sunny’s new room, Sam sitting on the bed as he watched the woman unpack.
It didn’t take her long as most of her belongings were clothes, but she had a few trinkets as well. Near the bottom of the bag were two photos, each in its own frame. She put them on the nightstand and couldn’t help but smile. She turned to Sam, pointing to one of the photos.
“That’s my sister and me. I was 6; she was 3. We went on a family vacation to Disneyland. It’s one of my happiest memories,” she motioned towards the other one, which showed a couple laughing as they held one another, “This one is from my parents’ wedding day.”
“So, where are they now?” Sam asked.
“Gone. Have been for a long time now. It was a djinn. My whole family was at home, eating dinner one night when there was a knock at the door. My dad went to see who it was and when we didn’t hear anything for a few minutes, my mom followed. The djinn got to them both before walking into the house and getting my sister and me before we could even notice. It’s funny, my dream was just finishing dinner.
A hunter who had caught wind of the djinn, ended up killing it right there in my living room. I was the only survivor. I was 22 and my whole family was dead. I had no extended family, no clue what I was going to do. So, I decided to start hunting. The one who saved me, Jason, he taught me the basics before I went off on my own. Last I heard, he had moved to Hawaii.”
“Wow, I’m so sorry,” Sam empathized. He knew loss quite well by now.
“At least I know that they got to live long, happy lives. Even if it was just in their heads,” she said. Her positivity was something Sam was glad to be around. Sure, he wasn’t entirely negative but the shit that he and Dean had gone through made them rough around the edges. Sunny, on the other hand, seemed to seep optimism from her pores. Sam found it refreshing.
Sunny continued to unpack her things, pulling out a few worn-down novels, a lavender candle, and toiletries. She liked to keep a candle with her. It was something to make motel rooms feel the slightest bit like home.
Once the bag was empty, Sunny kicked it under the bed. Sam stood and started the tour. He showed her all the main places in the bunker: the bathroom, the kitchen, infirmary, dungeon, Dean-cave, and library. He also showed off the gun range and mat room where she would be trying to teach the brothers. Once he had shown her just about everything, they ended back up in the hallway that led to their rooms.
“I am gonna go unpack my duffel, let you get settled. Dean and I will be in the library later; you’re more than welcome to join us.” Sam smiled at Sunny before leaving. Sunny simply nodded in response. She decided to take a shower, more than thrilled to be somewhere other than a motel. The water pressure in those places is horrendous.
Walking into the bathroom, she locked the door behind her and scoped the layout. The shower was nicer than she was used to, stepping onto the cool tile and looking over the knobs. She quickly figured out which one was connected to the hot water and turned it up. Soon, the warm water washed over her, all the tension in her muscles quickly dissipating. Sunny took her time, enjoying a quality shower for the first time in what felt like forever. She didn’t want to use up all the hot water in case one of the brothers wanted a shower, so she sadly turned off the water and wrapped a fluffy towel around her.
Her bare feet padded towards her room, finding it with relative ease. She decided to dress for comfort, pulling on a pair of grey sweatpants and a pink crop top. Using the towel, Sunny squeezed most of the water from her hair before heading out to meet the brothers in the library.
Only making one wrong turn, it didn’t take long before she found the two brothers sitting at the center table. Sam and Dean turned at the sound of her entering the room, Sam trying his best not to show a reaction. He was once again baffled by her beauty. Even in sweatpants and wet hair, she was basically irresistible.
“Hey, Sunny,” Dean greeted, motioning for her to sit at the table. She sat, giving the older brother her attention. “Whatcha want for dinner? I was thinking of getting take-out.”
“I eat just about anything,” Sunny said, “I’m not picky.”
“Mexican?” Dean offered.
“Yeah, sure. A burrito sounds fantastic,” she agreed. Dean chuckled, taking Sam’s order before leaving to go grab dinner.
Sunny couldn’t help but stand, fascinated by the number of books in the bunker’s library. Her hands skimmed the spines, her head tilted to read the titles. She was mesmerized by the amount of literature, her eyes sparkling as she cataloged the material.
Sam couldn’t take his eyes off of her, appreciating her wonder. He almost couldn’t bear it. She was just perfect. Standing, he walked over to where she stood. She looked up, smiling when she met his eyes.
“Yes, Sam?” Sunny batted her eyes. It was apparent he wanted to say something.
“I know this might be a little… forward, but I like you, Sunshine,” Sam reached down, taking her hand in his, “I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me?” He was nervous; it had been years since he had asked a girl on a date. He felt like a teenage boy all over again, his heart racing as he looked at the beautiful girl. Her smile grew even bigger, and he could swear her eyes were sparkling.
“I like you too, Sam,” she said, “I would love to go on a date with you.” Sam grinned, a slight blush creeping onto his face. He nodded slightly, trying to contain his giddiness. With his free hand, he brushed her cheek before going back to his seat. He didn’t want to rush anything. Not with her. Sunny was exceptional, and he wanted to make sure that she knew it.
Sunny turned back to the shelves, rocking slightly on the balls of her feet. She was excited to see where things went with Sam. They had been drawn to one another right away. It felt right to pursue something more than just friends.
The two stayed where they were, with Sam nursing a beer and Sunny looking at the titles of books until Dean returned with dinner. Immediately, the older brother could sense that something was different between the two. Glancing at Sam, he saw his younger brother give a small nod to confirm that something had indeed happened when he was gone. Dean was proud of Sam; it wasn’t every day that he was this bold around women. But even Dean knew that Sunny was different.
That she was someone that had the capability to change Sam’s life.
