The overthinker i am, i had a very intense discussion about the reason why we muslims fast and the misinterpretations about the quran, with my co-students in my head. And i came to a very interesting (at least to me) comparison: first the problem was that, most people don‘t know anything about islam, so they hear a sentence like beat your wife or kill all the unbelievers etc „quoted“ from the quran and automatically believe: this is hatespeach. But no, you can‘t interpret a sentence taken out of context like that, without even having red it by yourself first of all, and without even understang the meaning behind it. Think of it as a mathematical form: if you see A=π·r2 for the very first time, without having any mathematical knowlede at all, you would think what lunatic would write such a thing?? So, to truely understand the meaning behind this form, you have to get to know every single sign on its own. What does the A mean? Why is the equal sign placed exactly at this spot? Why is the π written like that and not as a number? And just like you have to take your time to understand all the complexity and the flexibility of the mathematical forms, you have to dissect every single sentence in the quran to truely understand it‘s meaning. And that means also, to understand when to use what statement or which order from Allah swt in what context. Because A=π·r2 cannot be used to represent mathematics when it is only a very veery small share of an endless cake, that can be used only to understand one matter of an eternal universe. Why would you try to judge a thing you dont understand?
But i believe, this is not only the case for non-muslims, but also for a lot of muslims including myself. We should try our best to understand what Allah is telling us. He is giving us solutions to all our problems and worries, we just have to figure out how to understand and use them properly.
