sometimes haneul really questioned what he was doing here. was the whole soulmates thing real? would he ever get someone’s first touch bruised on his skin, or would he go forever without the person supposedly made for him? sure, he was a hopeless romantic, but even romantics were skeptical. his thin frame, covered by clothing made for the hot weather of jeju, stood out amongst the rest of the crowd, standing heads above the others, but he still failed to notice the other person, head ducked to avoid any eye contact. he was shy, and his shy demeanor now did him in. “Oh I’m so sorry.” he mutters as he runs into someone, tripping slightly, his hand on the other person’s shoulder to catch his fall.
❝ ✗ ; ——— sujin was making her way down the street with her nose buried so deep in her phone, she wasn’t paying a t t e n t i o n to anything that was happening around her. this wasn’t common, but today, she was texting her grandmother from thailand with whom she hadn’t spoken in weeks. they were talking about the whole s o u l m a t e s thing, which was a conversation that consisted mainly of her grandmother saying things including, but not limited to, ‘i hope yours is sucklawat canarot, so you can bring him home for me to steal.’ the rest of the chat was really just the lady talking about how amazing that guy — ( her favorite actor ) — is. eventually, though, sujin was interrupted by a person b u m p i n g into her. "that's okay," she blurted out, automatically grabbing his arm to make sure he doesn’t fall. she then slightly laughed, her shyness kicking in as her voice lowered, "oh my god, are you alright?” ❜
❝ ✗ ; ——— it was about ten o'clock in the evening, p e r h a p s half past ten. sujin didn’t know for sure. she was just on the way to the beach, and the only thing she had brought with her was her keys. without her phone, she had no way to tell the time, but she was c e r t a i n it was late enough for her favorite place to be a l m o s t empty, which was the only thing that somewhat mattered. she went there during the daytime, too, but when there were kids running around and bumping into her while she had to walk over half naked bodies, it wasn’t half as much of a good experience. moreover, by this time of the evening, the weather has chilled out, which was another bonus. there was warm wind in her hair, but it was the good kind of heat. once she’s arrived to the beach, she immediately gazed around to see if anyone was there. as she thought, only a few peeps were walking, l y i n g, swimming and standing around; one of them was eunwoo.
she grinned, w e a v i n g through the small group of people to single out her t a r g e t. she could walk dead silently, and if she wanted, she couldn’t be heard at all. that was one thing she'd learned in korea when she'd begun to sneak out of the house at night, getting rather decent at it over time. when she stood directly behind him, she attempted to take him by surprise and push him into the water. unfortunately, she didn’t put enough strength in it — nearly none, in fact. it was a miracle that he felt it at all. "well, this is embarrassing," her face straightened, “could you just — jump into the water to make me feel better?” ❜

NOORI FELT LIKE A COMPLETE idiot. what was different about this time that he felt like an idiot? well, this time it involved another person. he’d been craving some iced coffee after waking up early that morning and decided to go to the local cafe to get his favorite. everything had been fine. he’d been extra careful while ordering his drink, making sure there were absolutely no mistakes in his order and that he didn’t agree to any extras out of fear of being too awkward to say no. it had all gone off without a hitch! until he turned around to leave… in an effort to look ‘cool’, he turned on his heel quickly and almost immediately fell to the floor. although he didn’t see it, he knew his coffee had landed on someone. he just knew it. he hurriedly scrambled up off of the floor, saw the mess he’d made, and instantly covered his face in shame. “i’m so sorry!” his muffled voice rang out.
❝ ✗ ; ——— when sujin graduated, found a job and started making her own money, she switched her u s u a l, homemade morning coffee for an americano from any coffee shop she came across. wherever she was, in b a n g k o k, seoul or jejudo, employees quickly learned her name and welcomed her with her regular order every morning. today was the same, except that this time, she r e c o g n i z e d her friend in front of the cash desk. ( what a n i c e surprise! ) beaming, she walked over to him, but just when she was about tap on his shoulder, the m e s s happened. she froze for a second, but let out a laugh soon afterwards. "it’s okay, noori,” she assured him, laying her hand on his back and gave it a pat. “you owe me a new shirt, though. or just give me the money. it was about seventy five cents, but its emotional value is about seventy five million dollars.” she attempted a joke, hoping to erase his worries. ❜
It was a decent time for people to be awake in the morning. However, Ayeong had been up for hours. Her hair was soaked up in a tight bun; water was dripping down her sides despite the towel clung around her neck. Swimming in the morning wakes her up, and it was the only thing that was routine in her life. Apparently she wasn’t as alert as she thought since she walked straight into someone. “I’m so sorry, I haven’t gotten any water on you have I?”
❝ ✗ ; ——— just like e v e r y other day, sujin went outside for a quick morning walk; it wasn’t just because she was on a lookout for a certain soulmate, but because it's become a part of her r o u t i n e over the years. no matter if she was on a vocation or in her hometown, she had to stretch her legs after waking up. she was wandering around, gaze fixed on her phone when she felt somebody b u m p into her. “no no, don’t worry about that,” she said coyly, her voice silent, but definitely l o u d enough for the other to hear. “were you at the beach or did you just arrive from london?” she beamed. quite frankly, she was aware her jokes were bad—even so, she coudn't help but tell them. ❜
Her hair flipped around in the wind as she sighed on the beach. Soulmates? Love at first sight? Idiots really, looking at the book on her lap. Reading the late assignment she got and it was a love story, great. As an English teacher she should be ecstatic, that a certain delinquent wrote a story. Her eyes went to the sea, like it called her. She faintly smiled drifting off into the blue waters. Not noticing another stare at her or something along the lines.
❝ ✗ ; ——— it was was t e r r i b l y hot that day, and in such a weather, there was no b e t t e r place to go than the beach. sujin wandered around, feeling sand around her feet and skin glow in the sunlight. if only there weren’t so many people, it would be p e r f e c t; even so, it was still better than staying inside. after all, she was there because she was curious about the soulmate rumors. almost certainly, she wouldn’t find one in her room. she began to look around, questing for a place to settle when she saw a f a m i l i a r figure in the water. her eyes narrowed to see her better in the intense light. a smile crept across her face, recognizing her friend and waving at her. ❜
‘‘ – no, i must resist the urge.’‘she whispered to herself. but, she still pulled out her laptop and began looking through her emails. she was right. her laptop was filled with so many messages and requests and there was no escape.’‘this is a disaster. i shouldn’t have come here. i don’t want to disappoint so many people.‘‘she felt awful. mostly because she didn’t believe in soulmates. the whole trip seemed like a big mistake.
❝ ✗ ; ——— sujin was not the kind of a person that'd sit next to others in public places unless it was the last option. she was quiet, and would much rather sit alone in the corner. it wasn't like she didn't enjoy socializing every now and then, but most of the time, she only talked when she was s p o k e n to. today, she found herself taking a seat across from a raven haired girl with a laptop. all the other seats in the cafe were full, and she looked friendly, anyways. when she sat down and began to go over the items on the menu, she heard the other’s silent voice. sujin g a z e d up. she wasn’t sure whether or not she was talking to her, but answered anyway, just in case. "do you mean you shouldn’t have come to this cafe ? but i think it’s lovely here." she smiled bashfully. ❜
