solace prompt || Alexandra and Oliver

Their child is safely tucked away with her nursemaid, soundly asleep as her parents huddle in front of the fireplace. Their heads are crowned with melted snow and their cheeks are rosy from the chill outside. Although his wife’s teeth are chattering, her look of pure joy keeps Oliver from worrying too much for a moment. Upon seeing her finally content after so long being confined to a bed during her pregnancy, a fond gleam makes its way into his eyes without him even noticing.

Oliver isn’t exactly sure when the woman beside him changed from an enemy in his bed to someone he would readily give his life for, but he admits that the change has more to do with him than with Alexandra. When she glances up at him, the fire dancing in her eyes, the fondness in his gaze travels to his lips and the young noble graces her with a smile. Without hesitation he takes both of her hands in his to warm them, grasping them tenderly as if they are more precious than gold, because to him they are.

She noticed his agitation first in homeroom, when she couldn’t concentrate on her friends’ rants and instead could only hear Zach’s foot tapping against the linoleum over and over again. In English he barely even looked up at her while they discussed their project, and although at first it hurt the blonde when he didn’t meet her gaze, she recognized the symptoms after a lunch spent looking at the back of his head.

After school when Zach eyes went wider at the sight of her leaning against his car, Jackie had the grace to blush slightly. “Hey, I saw that Brown’s acceptance date is today, and I wanted to catch you before you left.” Although she’d never been good with comforting people, she reached out to rub his arm and offer him a sincere smile. “You’re going to get in.” Plucking up her courage, Jackie stood up on her tiptoes and pecked him quickly on the cheek. “Don’t worry so much.”

I have reached 100 followers which is surprising because I didn’t think I would make it past 50. Anyways I should shut up and get on to giving thanks.
