He had spoken to the someone about his true nature, went to go to a public bathroom, felt a sting in his neck, and woke up in hell. He was constantly questioned about his past. First they were polite, "What was it like in the 1300s? How do you remember?" Then, as he refused to answer, they got a tad more forceful. It culminated in the threat that would break him. "We know your family, and now that we have you here, we will track you down, every single time you awaken, and bring you right back here, until you tell us how you remember your past lives." The threat of being tracked down was an empty one, he could hide in his White Workshop, and no one could find him. It was specifically the knowledge that they knew his family that made his blood run cold. So, with a voice cracked and broken from disuse, he choked out, "When people die, they are brought to the River Lethe, and their memories are washed off of them. I have a friendship with Death, and I don't have to wash my memories off." They immediately launched into their next question. "Where is this 'River Lethe'?" "In the realm of the dead, but even I don't know how to get there, I'm always guided there." In the next few days, he's released. His current life's wife, Jenny, embraces him with open arms. "Where have you been!? I've been using all my sources to try and find you, but it's like you dropped off the face of the earth!" "Well, Jen, have I got a story for you to tell..." A few months later, every single press source, from websites to news shows to newspapers are blowing the lid off of the story of a man who was captured and interrogated by an organization called Memory Corporation. They were immediately dissolved, and most were arrested, but a few members escaped. A few generations later, Sulphuros is idling in a restaurant, and suddenly, Seraphina, his wife from his first reincarnation, now a psychopomp training to work with and replace Death, quickly absconds with him into the White Workshop. "Whoa, Sera, what's the deal? Usually you don't do this without good reason!" "There is a good reason. There's something odd with the River. The washed-off memories that flow down it? They're terminating at some unknown source. We don't know what's happeneing to them. Me and Than are trying to figure out what's causing this, but if they somehow return to the souls they used to belong to, under any circumstances, do not reveal that you were the first to remember. There will be consequences from the public, I'm sure." "Okay, Sera. I'll do my best." Another generation. Sulphuros has awakened at 18, as per usual, and he's currently with his friends, who he's chatting up a storm with. Suddenly, their laughter stops, and they grab their heads with incredible agony. "Guys, are-" Then he feels it, similar to his usual awakenings, but he already had his, right? But these memories, these are new to him, they feel... older. He remembers his life as a Roman, his life as a Native American, everything He isn't feeling pain, but he does the same to fit the part. His first friend unclasps his head, and speaks in a shaky voice. "Wait... I was him? Oh god..." The next has a similar panic. "Oh god, what have I done..." At this point, Sulphuros speaks up. "Guys, I have a secret to share with you guys, and you guys alone." He pulls out a glowing white knife from his coat. "Wait, what? Where'd you get that?" "Don't worry about that and just follow me." He slices in thin air, and a door appears. He opens it, and beckons his friends inside. While they're gawking at everything, he pulls out a bone flute, and blows into it. The haunting tone chills his friends to the bone, and Seraphina appears from a black portal. "Sera. I know what is happening to the memories from the River. Someone is reclaiming them, and sending them back to everyone. We've got one last adventure in us, right?"
