So, I work/live in a community where, let's be honest, everyone is mentally ill. So, it's becoming a common event for people I work with or hang with or anything really to take a moment to show off their SH scars. Wild, right?
Now what's MORE wild is the feelings I end up with during these events.
Because I've done all that too, and, while I hate comparing people's struggles, my scars are significantly worse. But no one can see them. My wrists are clean, nothing I can show. And I remember the first time i got caught doing it, and they only cared about the wound from an eraser on my wrist, NOT the ones I actually did for real sh reasons.
It's as if sh doesn't matter if it's not in a "dangerous" place. Like if you're not trying to kill yourself, then the red water doesn't matter. And the worst is when people hear me say I can relate with them, but can't see any of the scars, so they scoff, or call me a lier, or just ignore it. I've officially just started lying about it, that I've never cut or anything.
I feel like I'm nothing but a web of lies, but I'm begging to tell the truth, so it just results with me being annoying and odd. And the worst part is that I even care about this at all. Why do I want people to know I'm like them? That I've also dragged myself through the mud? Why does it hurt so bad to know they won't believe me? How do I show them my thighs are 40% or more scar tissue, and why does a part of me feel like it's a competition? I feel like a failure, a freak, and a monster all at once.
