KYLA IS FAT - A rant about how Kyla is not fat
I don’t know if I have the right words for this situation, but I feel like I want to weigh in on it especially since I am very pro girl group. I take that back, I am not “pro girl group”, I am just “pro girl”.
With that said, lemme lay in on the people who are making fun of my girl Kyla from Pristin.
This is a frustrating situation because people are making fun of a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD girl.
A fifteen year old girl whose life aspirations are to dance to pop songs
As always, I want to point out the absolute HYPOCRISY of you appalling K-Pop “fans”.
You are going to call Kyla overweight? And that she needs to slim down to match her counterparts?
But, that’s where the hypocrisy lies.
I am going to use the song Nice Body by Hyomin as my counterpoint.
People were irate when Nice Body came out even though people took the song for face value rather than what Hyomin was trying to go with. The point of Nice Body isn’t to say, “I have a nice body and people like Kyla are fat”, it is to say, “I am only wanted and will only be looked at if I have a nice body.”
In the video, Hyomin goes from “fat” to her “sexy, slender” self.
Here are some top comments in regards to this video:
“ I hate the implications of this damned video so much…but I can never stop listening to this song. Curses. “
“ It suck because it sounds good but the message is absolutely horrible. On top of it it’s supporting a girls changing herself for a man “
As mentioned above, the intended purpose of this song is NOT to hate on people who are overweight. It is literally to tackle the issue Kyla is having - to appeal to a man (in this instance - the fans), you have to change your body type. In the chorus, she even says, “I’ll endure this pain to look pretty.”
Essentially, what kind of message are we sending here?
It is not okay to make a song about wanting a “nice body” to appeal to others, but it is okay to harass a member of a girl group for having a little bit of weight on her?
And Kyla is not even “confined to Wal-Mart scooter” unhealthy.
Kyla literally just has a little bit of weight on her a bit more than your average K-Pop girl. Give her some time to grow into her body and work on it and she could end up like Hyorin or Hyosung - both of which have grown into their weight and have worked out to maintain their figure.
So, people can bash Hyomin for creating a terrible song that perpetuates the idea that a “nice body” is a slim one (again, as said before that is not what her song is about but people choose to believe that’s what it’s about).
But, at the same time, we support the notion that all K-Pop idols must adhere to those proportions that Hyomin sings about.
Stop giving a fifteen year old girl a hard time.
Either you were fifteen once, about to be fifteen, or are fifteen.
You’re just finding out that some adults are just plain shite, school work is a pain, college is on the horizon, you have to support yourself in the future, you have to do this, you have to do that, you have to appease to these people, etc.etc.
And that’s just as a regular person.
This girl is a K-Pop idol who needs the support of her fans to help grow up. Can’t we do that for her?
