“It’s not a bad honor to have,” Ryan admitted. “Oh yeah? I feel like those two things don’t mix all that well. We didn’t have supernatural at Berkeley, at least I wasn’t aware of it at the time, and it was still wild. I couldn’t imagine adding to that.” He inclined his head a bit, matching her chuckle with one of his own. “No worries. I’m Ryan,” he stuck out his hand, “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yeah it was pretty much a disaster but it was great entertainment. I’d recommend a reality show based on it if you know... people didn’t think we were extinct “ She cringed shrugging her shoulders. Summer reached out her hand to shake his. “It’s nice to meet you too Ryan, thank you for the save. I really do appreciate it. “
“Who’s gonna come for ya’, Summer? Nobody. Nobody’s gonna come for ya’, not with me or family ‘round these parents, alright? You’re safe here, I promise you.”
“You don’t know that,” Summer said shaking her head. “He’ll come. It’s only a matter of time.” Pulling herself together she ran her hands over her face. “Thank you for the help.” She said quietly feeling embarrassed she’d just had a mini melt down in front of him. This was not the time or the place or the person for that matter. Nodding her head she headed down the alley way in the other direction silently praying no prying eyes she wanted to avoid had seen her.
There was nothing she could do to erase the pain Justin had caused Summer, but now she could be there for her old friend and protect her from any further harm. A worried frown crossed her features when she noticed Summer glancing around. Forcing it away she gave the other brunette a bright smile. “Why don’t we go to the Old Mill? We can get some peace and quiet.” It was possible another witch would go there, but she hoped they’d find the place empty. And it was far away from the town if Justin’s brother kept looking.
“Oh wow, yeah, I haven’t been to that place in forever. I can’t believe its still standing.” Summer said with a sigh. “Yeah, let’s head there.” It was relief to know she’d be away from the prying eyes of other right now.
“You did ask for a way how to get out without going by the door, I’m simply giving you a possible option.” A smile pulled at his lips, a light laugh leaving him at her joke. It was a rather strange suggestion, but it also would work if they did try it. “There’s no time like the present if you want to learn whether or not you’ve got the skills of cat woman.”
“Well its certainly the most interesting solution I could have been given. You’re not like... actually a spy in your free time are you?” Summer joked. “I mean what’s the cost of realizing I don’t have those skills. It would be a shame to leave my two year old mother less ya know?” Summer said looking up at the distance between the buildings, she hadn’t gotten a full grasp on what being a werewolf meant for her in this regard.
“Thank you.” She nodded, her eyebrows knitted together as her head tilted to the side while a short smile formed on her lips.
“You want to get out of here? Get some coffee or ice cream, I can show you pictures of my two year old like a cheesy parent that I am now.” Summer offered with a shrug.
“I was right?! Awesome! You do me next!” She joked, glancing around them. “True. Hanging out a window was a bit dramatic. How about we get you away from this place? That way the person you’re hiding from doesn’t find you.”
“Vampire, nose of a dog.” She said tapping her nose with a shrug and a smile. She’d grown up a werewolf and she had no problem making jokes about it. “I would appriecate that greatly. I would hate for my window dangling to be for nothing.”

Summer was stuck at the office for one reason or another and had called Mikkel for a favor - thought ‘favor’ implied it was something he wouldn’t have done unless she’d asked. He’d picked Hunter up from his daycare, fed him, even gave him a bath before tucking the boy into bed…not that he’d stayed there for more than ten minutes, now sprawled out across his grandfather’s lap. The wolf couldn’t help but grin at the light snoring coming from the boy, his eyelids fluttering causing Mikkel to wonder at what such a young and innocent mind could be dreaming about. A wave of sorrow crashed over him as he gently brushed the boy’s hair from his face, grabbing the notebook and pen he’d been using before his company had joined him.
Summer St. James, I missed out on most of your life. I’d like to say I would have been there had I known from the beginning, but I’ve learned lying to the people that matter is no way to go about things. I wouldn’t have been there, because things might have been different, and if things had been different you might not have one of the most amazing gifts this world can offer - your son. As much as I wish I had known you better, wish I had been there for all those big moments in your life, wish I could’ve saved you from all the wrong in your life…I think it worked out the way it was supposed to. In the few months I’ve known you, you’ve managed to remind me of a few things I’d long since forgotten. Seeing you, such a beautiful and strong young woman, willing to do anything you had to in order to protect Hunter. Seeing you laugh and love and just…live. You’ve reminded me why I live the life I do. Reminded me that…I’m not done, and I can’t do what needs done from a house in a town like Hollow Grove. The Greysons will look after you and Hunter, because they’re good people and because they know I’ll hunt them to the ends of this world and the next if they don’t. I know it doesn’t mean much, but I love you, kid, and I am proud of the woman you are. It’d be nice if I could make promises, tell you I’ll be back or I’ll visit - but the truth is…I’ll be gone by sun-up, and I don’t plan on coming back, because a peaceful life with family and friends is just too tempting. You can write, one of the Greysons’ will know where to send the letter, but I can’t say I’ll write back. I’m sorry. your father, Mikkel Grym
He’d just finished folding the letter and tucking it into an envelope along with a few photographs when he heard her coming up to the door. He carefully lifted Hunter, carrying they boy to bed and tucking him in, stopping in Summers room and propping the letter on her dresser before heading out. He greeted her with a wide grin, no trace of sadness on his face as he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “See ya in the mornin’, kid. Go get some sleep.”
Mikkel: Only gets worse when life screws you over a few times. Mikkel: Don’t worry about it. Mikkel: Believe it or not, I know a thing or two about raising little kids. Mikkel: I know what it’s like to worry.
Summer: Well that’s terribly depressing Summer: Well at least one of us knows something about raising kids.
