Bug of the Day
I see these big grapevine beetles (Pelidnota punctata) at my lights all the time, but I'm not sure I've ever photographed one actually *on* a grapevine.
Some dogwood sawfly (Macremphytus spp.) larvae I saw today. The second developmental stage of the larvae produce a waxy outer covering, making them look like walking q-tips. Although their larvae look like butterfly or moth caterpillars, sawflies are related to bees, ants, and wasps.
[ID: three photos of whitish insect larvae with a fuzzy, waxy appearance. They are sitting on green twigs and leaves. There is visible frass (bug poop) in the third image.]
some kinda swamp dragon
[ID: a watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil illustration of an alligator-like creature with blue, purple, and reddish-pink scales. It has a pointed tail tip. It is holding a large star/sun in its parted jaws. It is surrounded by swamp tupelo leaves, fireflies, ferns, and waterlily leaves. The background is black.]
