The nights are growing longer, Satin thought. Darker. The gloom is thicker now than it was before. The sun rises later and sets earlier. The winds are colder. He did not like to think on that for long. It made him shiver, but not from the chill. If it felt that way here in Winterfell, a month’s ride south and wrapped in its hot spring heated walls, Satin did not want to fathom what it must have been like at the Wall. It must have been bad, as Edd was not one to mince words in the letters he wrote nor in the reports he bid his men deliver. We need food or we will starve, one said. I had to hang two men for turning to cannibalism, he wrote, and it may only worsen as winter does. We need oil for torches and axes to cut trees. We need to keep the fires and hearths lit day and night or the men will freeze to death at their posts. We need fuel for the pyres to burn the men who die like flies. We need dragonglass. To fight the wights that make it into Castle Black. Dragonglass, Jon, we need dragonglass. For the love of the Old Gods and the New.

(The Wall begs for aid. Jon is forced to action, and Satin can no longer look away from the reality of winter)
