Apples
We see apples everywhere in myth. However, one of the problems identifying apples in religion, mythology and folktales is that as late as the 17th century, the word "apple" was used as a generic term for all (foreign) fruit other than berries, but including nuts. So thinking of what we know as an apple today may not be very helpful in piecing together what was actually meant. On the other hand, apples themselves are originally native to a region in Asia, not spread until the 14th century… therefore in a way they are a "foreign fruit" and the associations put onto them from myth and folklore would still hold.

Sigyn
Norse Goddess Fidelity, Greif, Sharer or Burdens, Loyalty, Mothering, Gentle, Compassion, Mercy, Devotion
Intro
It probably doesn't come as a surprise that like many other deities in Norse myth, we know very little about Sigyn. We have one main story that includes her and really that's it. That story is referenced across sources so I have always taken that as it does play a major factor in her character. Throughout this breakdown, I will be marking where upg and spg inserts begin with her. And hopefully I get across how amazing Sigyn can be and what she can aid with, not just in my own praxis, but others as well.
To get a sneak peek before continuing to read I will say that Sigyn is very nice, gentle and comforting with that softer strength. Like, I don't know how else to summarize her. She's quieter and reserved as she balances Loki's boldness. A wonderful and loyal presence to those she cares for. She like the mom friend that is in your corner no matter what troubles you find yourself in. Sigyn is the grass we all need to touch sometimes. The gentle hand that runs across your forehead and tells you everything is going to be OK.
So let's go on a journey of exploration together 💚
Epistemology
There a little bit of a debate on what Sigyn's name actually means or what it stems from. The common interpretation right now is: "its first member Sig° would reflect a variant in composition of ON sigr ‘victory, battle’, the outcome of PGmc. segiz- ‘id.’ (Goth. sigis ‘νῖκος’, OE siġe) and PIE ség̑ʰ-es- ‘overcoming’ (Ved. sáhas- ‘violence, force’; PIE seg̑ʰ- ‘overcome’; cf. Ved. sáha-te ‘overcomes’); its second element °yn would be the outcome of earlier °vin ‘female friend’ (cf. ON vinr ‘[male] friend’), the reflex of PGmc. wenjō- ‘id.’ (PIE u̯enH- ‘love’; cf. Ved. vánas- ‘desire’, Lat. Venus ‘lovegoddess’). Sigyn (Sig-vin) would therefore either mean ‘victory-friend’ or be the feminine derivative of a masculine personal name Sig-vinr ‘victory-friend" … "On the strength of it, a new interpretation for Sígyn will be advanced, namely as the reflex of the weak stem of PIE sei̯k u̯ -én-ih2-/-n̥-i̯éh2- ‘she of the pouring’, a devī́- derivative of *sei̯k u̯ -eno- ‘pouring’ (: Ved. °sécana- ‘id.’), whose semantics would closely correspond to Sigyn’s main role in myth; exact and partial matches for this analysis may be identified in Ved. °sécanī- ‘pouring, pouring ladle’ (sei̯k u̯-én-ih2-) and in the Latinized C3ltic river-name and theonym Sēquana (sei̯k u̯-en-eh2-), respectively" From this paper
I like the second interpretation better as it follows Sigyn's character in myth more closely. But ultimately you can decide which fits best for you!

Myths
Prose Edda: Gylfaginning [33, 50], Skáldskaparmál [1, 23, 30]
Poetic Edda: Voluspa [35], Lokasenna [64, 65]
The most famous appearance is this part of Loki's story:
"Then Skadi took a venomous serpent and fastened it up over him [Loki], so that the venom should drip from the serpent into his face. But Sigyn, his wife, stands near him and holds a basin under the venom-drops; and when the basin is full, she goes and pours out the venom, but in the meantime the venom drips into his face. Then he writhes against it with such force that all the earth trembles: ye call that 'earthquakes.' There he lies in bonds till the Weird of the Gods." -Gylfaginning, 50
Aspects and Relationships With Other Deities
Loyalty and Fidelity
Sigyn, in her stories, exudes loyalty to Loki. She stands by him in his most trying times. I think that is pretty obvious. But I want to talk about her marriage here.
UPG INCOMING: Regarding Loki Loki is a complex character that is largely misunderstood in some modern circles. (I won't dive into that here but… I can in a future post if that's wanted 😉 ) But Sigyn is mentioned in his kennings… often. Often enough for me to conclude she was important to them. Even with the titles like "Burden of Sigyn's Arms". It gives my the impression Loki fully appreciates and even might feel guilty for bringing that entire situation onto her. And keeping the label as a reminder to himself and others. And vice versa I think Sigyn truly cared and loved Loki simply due to standing by him when the rest of Aesir hated him. Divorce was an option for her (look at Njodr and Skadi). But she chose to stay. And I think that says a lot about her. I believe this tells us that she supports the many faces and sides to Loki, and understands that he has many roles to fill for different reasons. Sigyn provides the anchor to Loki. she provides a warm heart and open arms. She provides Loki the opportunity to raise children, to be a father, to be grounded. I love love LOVE the images of her being the softer, blushing, reserved person matched with Loki's boldness. Personal impact: I resonated a lot with this relationship in my personal life. I rave about my husband a lot because he is great lol but he is also kind of misunderstood and not always liked in a similar way to Loki. He can be loud in asserting himself (especially about me to others) and setting up boundaries, came from the oil field and can be vulgar, is a big body builder and brown which people perceive as "scary", can be angry and frustrated…. so I fully related to Sigyn loving and being devoted to a perceived "difficult" husband. Yet like her, I love my husband more than anything. Okay, this got sappy but you get it.
More UPG incoming: Regarding Loki and Angrboða I have never felt there was a relationship between Sigyn and Angrboða beyond a mutual respect. In modern terms, I see the three as a polycule. And this plays into the sentence I said earlier: "I believe this tells us that she supports the many faces and sides to Loki, and understands that he has many roles to fill for different reasons." Angrboða provides Loki something different but that he also needs. Sigyn knows and supports that. (Queen Queer Ally of Norse Mythology, For real! ) Without rambling too much I want to show the difference: Angrboða could not be more different from Sigyn, but is equally as important. Angrboða allows Loki to be a mother, a way for him to provide the world with things it needs most, care (Hel), hope (Fenrir) and protection (Jormy). Her relationship with Loki isn't what you would call conventional, but it isn't an affair, she isn't a mistress or a side piece. She is an equal in a 3 part equation. She is loving and caring, but in a very different way. She isn't the cuddle at home, watch a movie kinda gal like Sigyn would be. She's more the 'lets go get tequila and fuck shit up' kinda gal. Now some could and would say this isn't really important, and maybe they are right, but for some it is, Some of us grow out of that, but some of us need that. Which, I think, Loki does Personal Impact I wasn't going to touch on this but for sake of complete-ness, I will. It's not a secret I'm cis/het and want to be the best ally I fucking can be lol. Sigyn, honestly, has helped in that so so so much. Honestly I role model for me in that area. Granted we don't know a lot about her… but I feel that similarity in being the wife and accepting the person she loves with zero question or hesitation. idk I just really love that little insert. And not one I see talked about enough.
Mothering
It is only briefly mentioned that Sigyn and Loki had two sons. And due to the UPG above^^ she also has at least three polycule children. So, she was a mother and can be given this association rather easily.
UPG INCOMING Regarding her and Loki's children Look at these kennings: Devoted Mother, Goddess of the Heart, Goddess of Neglected Children, Goddess of Comfort, Mother to All, Beloved of Monsters, Hearth keeper of The Flame… This told me that collectively many could agree that Sigyn did care and probably helped care for Loki's other children with love and compassion. I've considered suggesting Sigyn as a good deity for someone like a foster parent, or parents looking to adopt because she just exudes this energy of willing to take in anyone that needs a home to go to. Just so caring despite everything she has had to endure. I admire that about her. Truly, think she is a good one to reach out to if you've struggled with a mother figure, or if you need a loving mother figure in your life. Personal Impact Unironically, both my pets were given to us by farms and people who did not want them. (can you believe my 90lb puppy was the runt of the litter??) Me and my husband took them in because honestly it was us or the pound and we couldn't let that happen when we knew we could make it work. Kinda what we are known for now lol After bringing Sigyn in to my hearthcult, I side eye that action as a nod to her.
Greif and Sharing of Burdens
In the stories, we see Sigyn lose her home, her sons killed, her polycule children ostracized and bound, and her husband tortured. I honestly can't imagine the grief Sigyn carries with her. She is known as the sharer of burdens because of the image around her holding the bowl up with her arms for Loki. She does so with seemingly no hesitation.
UPG INCOMING When I picture the scene of Sigyn holding the bowl over Loki, I see Sigyn with tear filled eyes and trying to hold it together after watching her sons be murdered and her husband in agony. And I personally think that sadness stays with her. But omg, to me that makes her seem like an incredibly strong as a woman. And that she is willing to be there and help others bear their hardships when they can't. I picture her as the one that will hold your hand and sit with you in the darkness simply so you aren't alone. And when you feel like you just can't keep going, she holds you up on her shoulder and helps you trudge the rest of the way. Even if you're both shedding tears as you do so. This is what I meant by "quieter strength". She is so strong without needing to show it through muscles or even words… Personal Impact Surprise, I have depression. And sometimes in life it is worse than others. Sigyn's strength honestly inspires me a lot. and helps me…. And even though I might have recognized it until recently, she's exactly what I hope to be. I want to help those around me not feel like I did/do. I can hold your hand if you need me to and be there when you just need a friend. Like, imagine Loki coming home from an adventure that he both started and finished and needing to just vent about it. Sigyn has that listening ear. I vent to her too over coffee lol.
Inner Child healing
With both of the above aspects I don't see why going to her for some inner child healing/ childhood healing isn't more common. Personally I think she'd be a great healer in that way (has been for me). This is where I place her a healing type. Literally heals with love and kindness.
Binding Magic
I bet you were not expecting that title lol. After everything I just said about how caring and wonderful Sigyn is… There is one very mysterious kenning of Loki thought to be about her in Eilífr Goðrúnarson’s Þórsdrápa, which is an early skaldic poem. Now, I am not a language expert and I am relying on others expertise here but "farmr arma hapts galdrs" : "burden of the arms of the captive of magic" or something like that, it’s a little difficult to unpack… this is the “incantation fetter” comes from. It’s not clear why this would refer to Sigyn. And it's likely due to some story lost to time. To add to this, another kenning given to Loki in Eilífr Goðrúnarson's Þórsdrápa is: The cargo of the arms of the harm-woman. Now some people associate this with Angrboda. However Falkes' translation comments that it actually might be in reference to Sigyn because as far as we know when referencing Loki being a burden to someone's arms, it implies Sigyn. Now, one very important thing to note is snorri, saxo, and other scribes writing down these stories had major biases… and a big thing they tried to do with varying degrees of success is erasing the magical traditions. I mention this because if Sigyn had some historical association to magic it was likely erased from the books. And that is an unfortunately reality for us heathens lol
UPG INCOMING Okay so realistically, how much can we get from a kenning that isn't even Sigyn's? Well, here's my little insert on it. As stated, I can heavily relate to a lot about Sigyn. So I can easily imagine with her love and devotion in her life… comes with protection of her own kind. "Binding magic" can be expressed in various ways but the one that stands out to me is binding someone in the way of like, freezer spells. where the idea is to bind someone temporarily to learn a lesson. Now, the "harm-woman"…. Honestly I think of hexes and baneful magics. If she had some some of binding idea attached to her, i don't see why a hex and other baneful working are out of the scope of probability. (A girl after my own heart, truly lol) I know when people come after my family I instantly think "no you need a time out." which is exactly what binding something can feel like. Could it have a more sinister background and could go deeper? sure. of course. But with the image of Sigyn being a gentle parent to me, I could see her using time out in more than one way lol

Moon Water
In general, I don't use a lot of moon water anymore. However, I do like to use it for watering household plants, and other quick things like that. Even as an offering sometimes. But what is it? It's simply water left in the moonlight (or lack thereof) to absorb the lunar energy or energy of that night.
My How To:
Get Container
I cleanse it, but thats not really necessary
fill with water
close/seal/cover and place outside OR in a window sill.

Using strawberries in bed, if you're open and willing, can be a really nice way to heal relationships with food and encourage self empowerment and self confidence.
Coffee
I would like to preface this with I am a religious coffee drinker. I have at least one cup almost everyday. So I use this OFTEN. I won't give the extensive history and origin legends of Coffee here but it is very interesting and I definitely encourage people to look into it. What I will say is there are four main types of coffee. The four main coffee types are Arabica, Robusta, Excelsa, and Liberica and all four of them have radically different taste profiles. Arabica and Robusta are the two most common you will find around in stores. But we are here for magical uses. Coffee is a stimulant. I like to think of it in the same way within spell work.

Honey is an ingredient I use often. And Honestly, there is too much lore across too many cultures to just list but the history is RICH with information. Obviously a major use it to "sweeten" a working but there are so many other areas to use it in, as listed above. The golden color also plays a huge role in why I use it for so many things and offer it to so many of the deities in my practice. So here is some other things related to it…

What are runes?
Runic alphabets have been around since about 150 AD and used as a writing system by a lot of Germanic languages. These systems were eventually phased out, slowly but surely, with the progressive Christianisation that started around 700-1100 AD. The three most commonly known (and used?) Are the Elder Futhark, the Younger Futhark and Futhorc.
Runes aren’t, themselves, broadly meant for divination, thought there are a few passages in the Eddas that mention Odin “finding” and using them.

Fitness Magic
Fitness Magic
Fitness Magic is simply the magic related to the physical fitness/physical body care and physical activity/movement of the body for magical purposes. Gym life, and physical activity is quite a big part of my everyday. So, I wanted to deep dive on giving a extra magical meaning beyond a devotional act. I have been on a journey with fitness for a very long time. And it is a balance. Like anything there are both healthy and unhealthy manifestations of this. Being too obsessed with the gym and how your body looks can lead to very unhealthy habits and self image issues. These things are not helped by our current societal beauty standards but this is where the balance needs to form. Its okay to want to look better while doing something good for your health and body. But that's exactly the mindset you need to keep. It's for your body's health and preservation. Perfect bodies do not exist and all bodies are summer bodies. Full Stop. The other thing I want to make abundantly clear is any form of physical activity can apply here. Anything that fits your needs and abilities. From heavy weightlifting, walking, cycling, stretching, western form of yoga, classes, swimming, dance, arm circles only, walking across your home…. anything. You do not need a gym. I am of the belief that physical fitness and physical activity is available to anyone who wants to do it. It shouldn't be some gatekept intimidating thing. What I mean is if you want to, you can. and there is something for every level. The other part of this is, if you are a little unsure of what you can do or should do, consult a doctor. Personal trainers are great but they are not doctors. Your health is important and please take your doctors recs and not some random influencer on the internet. Every body is unique and has different needs.
Themes
Self Love/Care: This is… or should be… a big part of this journey. Do it for you, your health, your spirit. This is a part of my self care routine. Doing even light activity can help with the image and feelings of our bodies. Especially as you start to see progress. Like if you start lifting you'll start pretty low, and then BAM, holy poop I didn't know I could be this strong. Makes you feel good about your body and proud of it.
Healing: I'm including healing because I personally find the physical activity healing for the mind, body, AND soul. Of course there is also a physical healing aspect like physical therapy and such. However there are numerous studies expressing the mental benefits as well.
Grounding/Connection to the Body: I find exercise and stretching is a great way to ground and connect to your body. A way to balance the input/output of energy. Have extra energy to spare, go to failure, need more energy, slow down to slow and intentional movements.
Meditation: This is honestly my favorite meditation method.
Energy: The energy produced is KEY for this magical take on fitness. Pride, Excursion, Sweat, Dopamine, Noradrenaline, Serotonin, "Runners High"… I will go into detail on how to use aspect later.
Fun: Exercise should be fun and not a chore. Feeling like a chore will make you not want to do it so finding something you can enjoy is absolutely a key factor.
Community: Gyms, sports teams, classes, online accountability groups are their own little communities. Community can help us be consistent and stick to it even if it gets super hard or you fall into a plateau or other mental dip in continuing.
Strength: Building strength might seem like an obvious theme, although it is down on the list because strength is not everyone's goal in going into fitness sphere's.
Endurance: Like Strength, this might seem obvious but it is not. This is not everyone's goal.
Body Affirming: Needing a little boost in connecting to your body and presenting as you would like? This can be a benefit and impact on why fitness is am interest.
How does it work?
Well, there are a few different ways to think about this. The first one is the use of the energy. The other main way is adding other types of magic into your fitness routine or just a single session. One other main way you will see fitness used, is as a devotional act to a spirit, deity, or entity. Lets go through a few of them.
Energy Input/Output and Visualization
The inspiration I got for this actually came out of sex magic. In sex magic the general idea is that the peak feeling of an orgasm is used to manifest/visualize the desired output, putting that out into the web of fate for it to come around. Well, a similar thing can be done in this context. For example, pushing those final reps creates and similar mindset of pushing through and pushing that energy out of your body. Another example would be in dance or stretching and putting that energy and intention into your physical movements. There are several ways to emphasize your intention but truly the imagination is the limit.
Types of Workings to Include
Self Improvement: Not just physical improvement. Really I think any self improvement intention could be applied here.
Healing, and Letting go: Physical movement is a great outlet for a multitude of emotions. Anger, Sadness, Frustration, etc. Personally this is also how I've dealt with processing trauma. It gives me time to think and put the resulting emotions into something good. (Always see a therapist and get professional help but I find it can help in conjunction). Physical healing has been mentioned, but I'm going to say it again lol. My experience has been healing torn and damaged muscles through my various sports and training activities.
Strength: Inner, outer, mental, emotional strength. Enough said.
Happiness/Joy: Science researchers tell us exercising boosts those good chemicals in our brain and I am not above using that in a magical sense too. Attract that happiness into your daily life.
Affirmations: Repeat them during sets, reps, breath exercises or chucks of movement.
Manifestations: You don't want to know how many times I've been on the chest press bench like "I will get this fucking house, I will get this fucking house" while buying a home lol.
Cleansing: Similar to healing, but taking a step further I am a fan of cleansing and literally sweating out what you need to get off of you. I find this even useful in terms of getting rid of things like evil eye and such.
Glamor: Physical appearance can be mentioned here but also things like "I am perceived as strong"
Flexibility: Things like dance, yoga, water aerobics help with the physical flexibility of the body… but what you need you or someone else to bend just a wee bit for whatever reason. Bend not break, important distinction.
Self Love: Love yourselves beautifuls. Your body and mind is capable of great things no matter your level. Connect and tap into that. 💕
Types of Magic to Include
Kitchen Magic: This is a bigger aspect than most people might realize. To exercise and move the way you want to, you have to have the proper fuel in your body. And that fuel varies and differs my person. But incorporating food and healing the relationship with modern food is absolutely part of a fitness journey and realm. Beyond food, there are so many vitamins, protein powders, pre-workouts, supplements, etc. that people incorporate into their fitness journey. The type, flavor, milks used, proteins, vitamins all will have different correspondences in what can be added into workings and intentions.
Color Magic/Rainbowmancy: Use your colors in what you wear, equipment, and drink from. In my case this can even include flag and tape color i use when I want to tap back into Colorguard movements.
Sigils: Draw on you, your equipment, stitch onto things, stand on to manifest, dance with the movement/move the flag/wand/baton/hoop/etc in the shape.
Divination: Here are just a few that could be utilized
Zygomancy: by weights
Nephomancy: by clouds
Fructomancy/fructimancy: by fruit
Drimimancy/drymimancy: by bodily fluids
Alveromancy: by sounds
Ambulomancy: by walking
Numerology: Numbers of reps, sets, exercises, dance counts, day, time, etc.
Lunar Magic: You can line up the routine based on the moon, use moon water in your pre-workout/plain/protein.
Cycles/Menstruation: If you are a uterus owner… your exercise might be dictated by your cycle. For example the week before you bleed things tend to seem HEAVY for no reason. This doesn't mean you lost strength, your body just said "not today maybe".
Mediation: The motions almost force you to focus on the breath, moves, and that can flip your brain into a meditative state.
Coffee/Tea/Brew Magic: For all your brewing needs… protein coffee is a staple for me to no ones surprise.
Art and Music: Dance and similar activities are arts in themselves so I think it's important to include. In the same vein, music played no matter the exercise can absolutely boost vibes and intentions.
Tools
Weights/bands/barbells/ankle weights/really any equipment needed
Shaker bottles (gym girlies… if you know, you know… they take over your house)
Protein powders/pre-workout powders/stimulant supplements
Active wear/Shoes (Clothes are also great tools to just make you feel good and cute while doing what you need to)
Yoga mat
Weight gloves

Color magic with workout sets
Stick a sigil or written intentions in my shoe while doing cardio
Let out that stress while lifting… like breathing exercises (safely) while pushing those reps
Numerology intention with rep and set choice. (currently I do about 7 sets of 9 reps for lower weight and 4 sets of 7 reps for higher)
Mantras are your friend to gather motivation and self empowerment.
Take those vitamins with a blessing and/or prayer
When I stretch after a hard session I go into like a meditation/trance mode and do a light body exercise to feel how my body is feeling. (I get hella good results here)
If you take a shower or soak after let the sweat and water rinse off the stress you just got rid off.
Visualize while active (if you can't just think about the intention)
Devote a set or entire workout to a spirit of choice
Create a goal/mood board for goal manifestation
Run for a cause (5ks and such)
I workout in the morning, so omelets are the perfect post-workout breakfast and you can do so much with the veggies and ingredients used.
Power Smoothies!!
Protein milkshakes are something I love
Spirits to Work With

Airmid
Irish/Celtic Goddess Of Magic, Healing, Learning, Herbalism and The Complexities Of Family Relationships.
Airmid/Airmed is a very important goddess to me. She was really the first deity I had on-going true praxis with so I hold her very close to my heart. But it is only fair to start with her main story and functions within Irish Mythology. Keep in mind it has been a very hot minute that I have been in Celtic Polytheism as a main focus. So if you find details missing/have evolved since my entries, I apologize in advance and feel free to correct me. It should also be said that I first heard of her while traveling around in Ireland. We stayed on a farm and our host and his wife who were just lovely people, told us some stories and told us to go to this tavern nearby to hear more. And that is exactly what we did. So I will include both of the story tellings. The one I heard back in Ireland, and the story as told in the Cath Maige Tuired Full English Translation by Morgan Daimler
🌿 💧🐍 💧 🌿
Translation
33 Now Nuada was being treated and an arm of silver was put on him by Dian Cécht which had the movement of any hand in it. This was not good to his son, that is to Míach. He went to the arm and he said “joint toward joint and fiber toward fiber” and healed it in three sets of three days. The first three days he carried it in front of the side of his body and it was covered in skin. The next three days he carried it against his chest. The third three days he cast bright wisps of black reeds after blackening in fire. 34 This was a bad healing to Dían Cécht. He threw a sword at the crown of his son’s head so that it cut his skin to his flesh. The youth healed it through exercise of his craft. He cut him once more and cut his flesh down to bone. The youth healed it as with the first exercise [of skill]. He struck him a third cut reaching to the membrane of his brain. The youth healed this as well with the same exercise of skill as the first. He struck then the fourth cut with certainty to his brain causing Míach to perish and Dían Cécht said that there was no physician who could heal that strike. 35 After that Dían Cécht buried Míach and three hundred and 65 herbs grew up through the burial place, under the full number of his joints and fibers. Afterwards Airmed unfolded her mantle and separated the herbs there according to their proper order. Dían Cécht came and mixed the herbs, so that no one knows the healing properties but that the Holy Spirit taught them afterwards. And Dían Cécht said: “Míach is no longer; Airmed will remain.” 🌿 123 This then is what was used to heat the wounded warriors there, so that the next day they were iron-bound because of Dían Cécht and his two sons and his daughter, that is Ochtriuil and Airmed and Míach, nearby composing incantations over gushing water, that is the Sláine its name. Throwing their severely wounded in it, indeed in the great vessel. They would be alive emerging out of it. Their severely wounded would be healthy through the strength of the chanting of the four healers who were around the well. 🌿 💧🐍 💧 🌿
Retelling
After Nuada had lost his arm in the great battle, he was taken to Dían Cécht and his children for healing. After observing the injury Dían Cécht could not attach the arm back into place. His son Miach had an idea and created an arm of silver. This arm of silver attached and made Nuada whole once again for his quest. This angered Dían Cécht as he was jealous of his son's accomplishments. He alone claimed to be the best healer of the time. In his anger, he killed Miach with a blow of a sword to his brain. Airmed grieved for her brother. Her healing alone could not bring him back and her father refused. So there Airmed grieved over his grave. The gentle soul cried for her lost brother. From her tears, 365 herbs grew on the grave as her brothers last gift to her. Her herbs. The goddess decided to gather the herbs and sort them according to their healing properties. Once again, her father, Dían Cécht, could not control his envy. Standing silently behind Airmed, he suddenly scattered all of the herbs she gathered into the winds. Making sure no one would have knowledge of all the healing herbs. 🌿 💧🐍 💧 🌿
Aspects
There are so many qualities we can take from this story. So, lets break them down. Keep in mind this is UPG based on the stories. Feel free to find more or less or completely different things from your own readings.
Demeanor
From these stories I have always gotten the sense of a goddess who is very gentle and sweet in nature. Like that one nurse that is just always in your corner.
Healing
Obliviously, it is plainly stated that Airmed is a healer.
Water In stanza 123 we see that she has some connection to healing waters. Wells, and waters are always big in Irish myth and culture and so this isn't too surprising here. But it is important to note her connection to water.
Herbalism This is never outright stated but I think it is pretty in your face that Airmed became an herbalist and gathered knowledge of the herbs found on/by her brothers grave.
Nursing I associated Airmed heavily with nursing. I just kind of got the impression that she was a helper to her father and enjoyed it. Her seemingly caring and gentle nature would be useful in the actual caring for "patients" not just the healing like a doctor. I think of modern medical relations and I just know she is the one taking measurements and asking questions and getting to know you while suggesting some treatments. That's just the vibe I get.
Magic
Again from stanza 123 I think that shows Airmed's ability to conjure up healing magic and make magical remedies past just tinctures and herbal mixes.
Learning
Just an extrapolation from the herbalism part of the story on my part. I find Airmed to be a learner. She learned those herbs enough to separate by use and that just screams "I keep plant profiles for funsies" to me.
Complex Family Relationships
We all understand this. Families can be complicated. Staying with her father even after he killed her brother (who she seemed to love based on her greiving) took some serious inner strength and dedication to her family. Perhaps it has for her second brother, who knows. But that makes it even more complicated. Family structures and relationships can be hard to navigate. I fully believe Airmed understands that.
Grieving
I think it is safe to say Airmed is one that can aid in the grieving process of a family member. And I don't think that needs to be elaborated on much. It's a hard thing to go through but she would be one to understand.
Other UPG
I have always just seen Airmed as more of a loner after the herbs were spread. Always looking for the last parts of her brother. Healing on the way as she goes. I picture the old healers that would travel from village to village. Gentle rains are something I associate with her. If her tears were enough to nourish the ground for herbs to spring, then the gentle rains are a symbol of her in my eyes. to be completely honest, I have no clue where lavender comes in but it is the herb I associate with her.
Prayers
Popular chant associated to her
Bone to bone Vein to vein Balm to balm Sap to sap Skin to skin Tissue to tissue Blood to blood Flesh to flesh Sinew to sinew Marrow to marrow Pith to pith Fat to fat Membrane to membrane Fiber to fiber Moisture to moisture
Greif Aspect Prayer
Oh Airmid, Gentle and sweet, fierce and dark, You dove into the depths of your sorrow and found your power. You gained yourself and healing for your sorrow. Great giver Airmid, Help me honor my gifts so I may appreciate the life around me and the life within. Grant me your light to help others that need your love and healing. Blessed be
Invoking Prayer
Wise and gentle Airmed, whose art it is to know the green things of the world, root and leaf, stem and seed, to tend them with care, to work the soil from which they draw their might; you hear each voice of flower and weed, they speak to you of life and death, of healing and of harm. Airmed, mender of men, daughter of skillful Dian Cecht, whose wrath was borne by your dear brother, you know the pain of a heart torn by grief, you know the good of tears freely shed. Airmed, beloved goddess, yours are the tonics and balms that arise from the earth, yours the remedies that ease body and spirit. Airmed, I call to you.

Cozy Magic
What is Cozy Magic?
In the simplest definition, Cozy magic is the magic involved in one's sense of coziness. So, what does that mean? Well, I am so glad you asked. The definition of cozy is: giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation [Oxford Dictionary] I like to view cozy magic as a huge simmer pot of several areas and subsections of magic. Cozy magic, to me, is going to be slightly different for each practitioner. Simply because what is cozy to me, may not be the same for you. However! There are overlapping themes that apply here and we will definitely explore them in this deep dive into coziness. So grab a blanket, and a hot beverage of choice and let us begin.
Themes
There are some ideas that I think are central pillars to Coziness and Cozy Magic.
Comfort: The state of physical ease and free (or as free as you can be) of pain or constraint.
Relaxation: The state of being free from tension or anxiety
Simplicity: Magic doesn't have to be complicated or hard.
The Moment: That small thing from 15 years ago doesn't matter right now lol, don't let it ruin your now.
Home: Whatever that word means to you. A physical home or a person, or a state of being. (I also want to note that even though this is a focus, nothing is stopping you from getting nice and cozy while working or out with a friend at a coffee shop or little bakery… Home can be wherever your heart is🩷)
Warmth: Not physically. But the warmth inside when your happy and fuzzy and okay exactly where you are.
Connection: To home, family, friends, fur babies, spirits… all of it
Peace: although true inner peace is probably unrealistic. Creating a space for you to be have even 10 seconds of peace is absolutely obtainable.
Hygge
Hygge (n/vb) /HOO-gah/ : The art of creating warmth comfort and wellbeing through connection, treasuring the moment, and surrounding yourself with things you love.
Whenever coziness is brought up I often get led to the concept of Hygge. As far as I can tell this is a Danish concept but the word is used in most Scandinavian countries to mean the same thing. There is a lot of meaning packed into this little word. Essentially it's a term that includes coziness but also a mental state of wellbeing and connecting to your life and those around you. Which I absolutely love. Taking in the moment and stepping outside of the typical American go-go-go mentality has come to be uber important to me as of late. Enjoy your life, before it passes in front of you. Even on busy days taking a pause to just inhale and look at the clouds, or touch some grass in extremely good for the mind and your being. There is honestly so much to discuss in this topic alone, but for now I will leave it at this: Hygge is a term I think can be useful for the lifestyle that comes with this mentality of wanting/needing to slow down and simplify a bit. Which, in my eyes, magic and lifestyle go hand in hand. I think this concept provides a solid foundation for the way magic and the craft can help amplify and give a deeper meaning to those who choose to explore this path.
Other names for Hygge across cultures (Not a comprehensive list)
Cosagach: Scotland
Gezelligheid: Holland
Omotenashi or Wabi-sabi: Japan
Gemutlichkeit: Germany
Koselig: Norway (but this term focuses more on social groups and hosting friends)
Coziness: America we have no cool words in english lol
The Simmer Pot
I described Cozy Magic as a simmer pot of other types of magic. So, lets go over what some of those might be for a practitioner and where the cross sections lay for our pot.
House/Hearth/Cottage Magic
House, hearth, and cottage magic is exactly what is sounds like: Magic having to do with the home. It is the idea of making your living space and the everyday magical in it's own right. Where this overlaps with Cozy Magic is some of the concepts we see within hearthcraft. Those being: Simple, Practical, Family-related, Domestic, Everyday, and the Household. The home is a core part of the cozy mindset. Our homes, no matter what that looks like: house, apartment, condo, shack, a single dorm room, your room at your parents, etc… Our homes should be our place of relaxation and comfort. So putting the effort into creating your space is, dare I say, essential. And this will look different for everyone. Are you a maximalist goblin? or perhaps a minimalist queen? A dragon over a hoard of more expensive taste? A college dreamer just trying to survive and have inspo everywhere to keep going? A trash panda in which you huddle into your bed and only come out for food? No judgement, whatever brings you that sense of relaxation, comfort and warmth when you come home. (As long as it is a safe environment!!)
Kitchen Magic
Kitchen magic is also exactly what is sounds like. Magic but in your kitchen! Foods, drinks, baking, recipe books galore, oh my! Think of your perfect cozy night in. I bet it involves a good snack or comfort food and a nice beverage (probably hot but I'm from the south so sometimes it's cold lol). And where does nice cup of hot tea come from? Your kitchen lol. This gives several opportunities for kitchen magic to in use. I go so far into including the dining table (or tv tray, lets be real here) into kitchen magic because what plates, mug, glasses or silverware you use can absolutely amp up a vibe. Further, when hosting a night of friends, I find this area heavily involved. Even if you host a potluck, the magic in that kitchen is bountiful, comfy, warm and full of laughter and joy. Embrace that.
Green Magic
I am adding green magic as a subsection here because herbs play a role here. In both home and kitchen magic, sure, but also in other areas of Cozy Magic like what scent you have going in your home or on your person. Or perhaps actual spell work you create. I just wanted to touch on that herbs and scents and plants all help with cozy vibes so I thought it was important to mention here.
Folk Magic
I won't go overly in depth here because let's just realistic folk traditions are heavily varied. BUT. the overlap and where these traditions can come into play if you are involved in your folk traditions, is that they typically have practices around the home, everyday life, family, traditions, and recipes. So, if you were wondering if can practice cozier magics while keeping your tradition, absolutely you can tailor it to your life.
Self Love/Help Magic
When I think of the idea of Cozy, I think of really taking take for me. Slowing down at night after a long work day, tuning out the hustle and bustle of life and relaxing. That cup of coffee in the morning as the sun rises, is for me. That workout session while breathing and helping my body, is for me. My walks i take with the dog are for my fur son and me while we take in nature for the 1.5 miles. That cleansing shower in candlelight, is for my body and mind to relax. You get the gist. Self care and self love acts are something I would argue is just as important to Cozy Magic as Home Magic. There is nothing wrong with romanticizing your own life and living for you, in each moment, in each breath. Find the warmth and comfort within your own being and soul. I find that an extremely beautiful thing in this path.
Embracing in Praxis
You might be asking, okay but, how do we PRACTICE these things? And by golly I am so glad you asked. In truth, you probably already are when you do something for yourself. And that is the beauty of this. The idea is to not make magic a task or chore or extra thing you have to go out of your way to achieve. Magic can be in your everyday. Scratch that. Magic IS in your everyday. All it takes is a little shift in perspective to see. So let's see some things in action!
Types of Magical Workings to Include
Let's go a step further into magic and discuss what types of workings and spells you might think to include to make your practice just a touch more cozy. Keep in mind the idea here is easy going and relaxing. So whatever your experience level, activity level, relaxation level, or ability, there is something in here for you! and if there isn't… well, get creative with what these these mean to you!
Cleansing: I find cleansing a space, or just moving the vibes around, can help me feel so such more relaxed.
Protections: Everyone needs protections at one point or another. protecting my space helps give that peace of mind we are after.
Sleep: Sleep is harder for me when I am anxious, calming and winding down absolutely falls into this magic system.
Calming: Whatever this means to you. Calming your mind, attracting calmness, giving things calming properties, etc.
For Peace: You deserve some inner peace in this world.
Connectiveness: Feeling disconnected? or disjointed? Meditate, align, touch some grass, get some coffee with a friend to chat, have a family dinner, just feel for a moment.
Cutting ties/cords: I am a big proponent of leaving what is not serving you. Snip snip yourself from the baggage, it can weigh you down.
Happiness/Joy: get that pick-me-up, blare that song, light that joy candle, watch that favorite movie, be not afraid to bring yourself some happiness on the daily.
Inner Healing: Shadow work, Therapy, Healing… it's a journey, not a race, allow yourself freedom and a safe space to heal
Comforting: Blankets, pillows, friends, family, food, drinks… all of these and more can bring you some comfort. enchant those blankets, stuffies, pillows etc. Spend some time with friends while drinking wine and snacking. light the candle for the comfy smells.
Self Love: Please take care of yourself, beautifuls, k thanks💕
Affirmations: Easy little saying to attract things into your life
Simmer pots: good little spells that also make your home smell amazingg
Happy Healthy Home: Interpret this as you wish
Activity Ideas
Several of these things can be included in your magical practice!! But, thought I'd give a jumping off point. Do you do any of these things? How can you include them? Think of something you do on the daily, or pretty often to start adding some magical meaning to. Even if that is washing the dishes. Sure it's a chore but it's also cleaning your kitchen, which can be a central and sacred space for many homes. So instead of saying "ugh, I have to wash these dishes" (Which I still say too but bear with me lol) say "I am taking care of my sacred space"…. gives a different motivation and meaning to the task at hand. So put on that favorite playlist for vibes and take care of your sacred space 🩷

The Tools
Okay okay, I hear you asking: "But what do I need for this?" The answer is nothing. You need absolutely nothing to begin. Remember the idea is be easy, comfy, and simple. There is no need to have fancy and extra things about. But… while we are here, we might a well. Let's go over some tools of the craft you might want to include. Of course there are so many choices but I wanted to narrow it down to a few and what they might be used for.
Candles: I feel like this one is a given in this context. Or really any lower light source to set the mood. Can't use candles? use fairy lights or warm light lamps. No overhead lighting to be seen here.
Kettle/Coffee Maker: For all your brewing needs ☕
Blankets: Enchant them, cuddle them, get nice and comfy, lay them on the floor for your spell work/meditation space.
Mugs: The brew must go somewhere. also nice stand in containers for candles. Or just drink from one for the vibes.

Needle and thread: Repairs, embroidery, clothes making, sewing magic all apply here!

Spirits, Entities, and Deities
Deities
These are deities that you might consider but it is not in any way a comprehensive list. Many of these are just ones I am familiar with but really deity related to any of the topics touched on so far will fit in perfectly. Remember this is about your comfort! Take my brief descriptions with a grain of salt… Norse deities aren't really gods of things but associated with things but for list purposes it's worded as such.

Hestia (Greek): Goddess of Hearth and Home
Brigid (Irish): spring growth, protection of women and children, protection of the household and livestock, creation and inspiration, the sun and sacred fire, healing wells, and keening

Spirits
These are various spirits you might look into. Again, not a comprehensive list by any means, and not full descriptions… please do your due diligence when working with spirits.
You home spirit: The animist in me fully believes your home has an energy and spirit that is unique to it. Tapping into and working with that will definitely amp up the cozy vibes for you.
Husvaetirr/ House Wights(Norse): Any spirit of the home. And sometimes the spirit of your home.
Brownies (England and Scotland): A familiar household spirit.
