“We stared at each other and for a moment I thought of everything we could’ve done differently–every smile, word, touch. But in the end it doesn’t really matter. It was never going to get to be him and me.”

““You don’t love him.” he challenges, a small smirk appearing on his thin lips. “Excuse me?” “You can’t.” “He makes me happy,“ I retort. I cross my arms and stare defiantly up at him. “Sure.” He shrugs. “I didn’t say he didn’t. But you don’t love him. He doesn’t get under your skin the way I did.” “That’s a good thing.” “You keep lying to yourself. You say he makes you happy, but it’s not the happiness that I made you feel. It’s not the tingle in your fingers and the butterflies in your stomach. You like him cuz he’s safe. He won’t hurt you. He’s smart and funny and kind, but he’s oh so safe.” “Safe is a good thing.” I nod at him firmly. “Not for you. I can see it in your eyes. You want recklessness. You want fiery passion. You want danger. In fact, I think you need it. You thrive on it.” He steps closer, breath warm on my face. One hand slips gingerly around the small of my back and the other rests on my cheek. My breath catches in my throat. He leans down, lips just brushing my ear. My skin prickles with goosebumps, and a smile sneaks it’s way onto my face. “See? I told you.””

Do you think the universe fights for souls to be together? Some things are too strange and strong to be coincidences.
— Emery Allen
“The saddest truth is realising you have fallen madly in love with what can never be.”
I have a terrible habit of leaving things unsaid for the sake of peace

““and I’m so sorry I couldn’t love you the way I loved him.””

“He was cruel and you loved him. But okay, okay, he wasn’t always cruel. Sometimes he was nice, and he was gentle and sweet and everything you ever wanted in a boy. Sometimes he bought you flowers and called you beautiful and he kissed your fingertips– – to make up for the times he pulled your hair and called you a mess and made you cry – sometimes he apologised with tears in his eyes and you believed him. Sometimes you chose to believe him. The first time he took you to meet his friends he said, “isn’t she a jewel?” And you felt your heart swell with pride and you wanted to kiss him right there and then like a smitten schoolgirl. So, later, when he called you an embarrassment, you felt your heart drop and your cheeks grow red and you thought you must have done something wrong. So afterwards when he wouldn’t talk to you and you began apologising for nothing it really got to your head. The problem was that he was cruel and he justified it by blaming his cruelty on you. “This is what you made me do,” he said, and the first few times you almost apologised for it. And he almost had you, didn’t he? A few more months and it would have ruined you. “So what made you leave in the end?” a friend asked the other day. You swallowed and said, “I imagined how I would feel if any man treated my daughter that way,” you started, “and I almost started to cry.””

Can you hate someone for what they have done, but still love them for whom they had been?

Everybody talks about cutting ppl off but nobody really talks about the grief that comes with having to stand firm on that decision knowing it’s not what you wanted but what was necessary for your well-being.
literally grief.
“If you knew how hard it was, and how long it took, to rebuild my little universe of peace and happiness then you would understand why I’m so picky about who I allow in my life.”
— Weird People
Forgive your old self, you've changed.
I kept asking myself “why does he get to be happy with other people and I can’t be” but then that’s when I realized I didn’t need another person to be happy. I had myself, my success and thats all I have ever needed
