FOR SALE: One, dumb robot.
What exactly does the robot do?
Seriously?
Ah, well doesn’t that just sound fitting. Have you tried this flavor before? I’m afraid I haven’t gotten the chance.
I’m glad to hear you’re getting the chance to relax a bit. I think I’m going to try and keep us here in New York for the time being; you all deserve a bit of a break.
It’s been well, thank you. I’m trying to recruit new agents, reconnect with a few lost friends, and enjoy the season. Easier said than done, I’m afraid.
No, I have not. It shall be a new experience for both of us, I suppose.
Really? {Jemma tried to contain the excitement in her voice, rather unsuccessfully.} Thank you, sir. I think a break would be beneficial to everyone on the team, especially with everything we have gone through recently.
Why is it easier said that done? If you don't mind my asking, that is. It's simply that those all seem like relatively easy things to accomplish, at least in theory.
Baby, it's Cold Outside || Fitzsimmons
"No, that would be far too easy.” If he used all the time he spent waiting around for women to get ready in his life, Fitz might have had the time to build himself something magnificent. Maybe an Iron Man suit. Maybe turn into Tony Stark’s sidekick. Maybe if he dedicated that time to actually doing something with it rather than merely imagining up what he could become, he’d actually be there by now, but no. Fitz remained slumped against the door frame as she finally made her way out of her room, only to begin pulling on more clothes. “It’s cold at home too. Mum said there was snow. Snow. Snow would be good here too, but… We’ll need something hot to drink if we’re putting up with that all night I think.”
"To be honest, half of that was just me trying to be annoying." He admitted, though Fitz was already fairly confident she would have put that together herself half way through his teasing. "And anyway, this is New York! I think the city lights’ll be a bit more exciting than the apartment. Not that you didn’t do a good job, they’ll just be huge. And… I’m going to shut up now." He rambled away, shutting the door behind the pair of them before leading the way down the stairs. "Where d’you want to start first then? We can… Go and find one of the huge trees they shove up? I don’t know why they need more than one, I don’t even know if Glasgow has one… A big one anyway…”
Simmons scoffed at his statement regarding it being too easy, rolling her eyes. “Really, snow? That sounds absolutely lovely. You should ask her to send us a picture.” Jemma had not yet had the opportunity to visit Scotland and properly meet Fitz’s family, but she thoroughly enjoyed the photographs from that particular area. “I talked to Mum yesterday, and she said that they have gotten nothing but a few flurries in England.” Considering how Scotland was further north and therefore often more cold, it scientifically made sense. “Well, there should be plenty of coffee shops open throughout the evening and night if we need to stop to get something hot to drink. I don’t think we need to be too worried about that.”
The biochemist quirked an eyebrow. “Only half?” Her lips curled into a smirk to accompany the teasing note in her voice. “Don’t undersell yourself, Fitz. I would be perfectly fine if you just wanted to admit it was all to be annoying.” She nudged him with her shoulder, hardly feeling the jostling sensation due to the several layers she was bundled up in. “Yes, I suppose so, but you could at least pretend to have some holiday spirit when it comes to the apartment. We really don’t need a Grinch in the house.” She directed a very pointed look towards him, hoping it would get her message across. “Well, we could go see holiday windows or try our hand at New York Christmas shopping or go ice skating or simply sightsee… honestly, there are so many possibilities. Which one should we begin with?” Her hazel eyes shone with the night’s potential, and she could not wait to see everything that the big city held for them as they walked out of the entrance of their apartment building.
Germophobe. Mostly.
I suppose ice skates would contain germs if you borrowed them, but what if you brought your own?
Or are you referring to the people?
Seriously?
That sounds fair. If we get this water to a boil, we should be able to meet in the middle soon enough. {He takes down the tea pot and turns on the burners, filling it with water as the flames expand}
So tell me how things are going? Are you enjoying the holidays?
That sounds absolutely fantastic, sir. Excellent suggestion. And I believe this month's flavor is Winter Spice, which is pretty perfect considering the weather outside at the moment. {As she spoke, Jemma sifted through the cabinets in hopes of finding the crumpets.}
Things are going... better than expected, actually. Not that I expected things to be bad, but it's nice to relax some, which is what I have been doing. Decorating has been rather exciting as well.
How has your holiday been, sir?
Honestly,
Yeah, me. If I’m not doing one than I’m doing the other. Friends tend to get a little sour when I don’t take it easy on myself.
... yes, I can see how that would become an issue. Couldn't you recruit your friends to patrol or workout with you?
Note to self: don’t ever want to go ice skating, because when you can’t, you get a little bummed about it.
Why can't you go ice skating?
Max is a total sweetheart, it would be inhuman for you not to wonder why the world put him with such a nasty bugger…yes, I don’t know if I’m for terrorizing the town and weird kinky crushes on the mayors to be temporarily a fiance.
Yes, I would say that is definitely not something I would want to happen on Christmas. I also would like to wake up to my presents and decorations, especially considering how long my lights took me to put up.
Baby, it's Cold Outside || Fitzsimmons
Christmas in New York. His last few had been spent at home, mostly locked away in his old bedroom in his mother’s flat, tinkering with inventions from his earlier years. This year… Everything had changed. No longer just an agent hid away in a lab, but a field agent…thanks to a little pushing and persuading from Jemma. A field agent with a team, a bloody plane to get them from A to B? It had been one hell of a year. Why not finish it with a bang and the most obnoxiously Christmassy Christmas that could be had by two Brits in New York City?
"Jemma, c’mon!” The engineer insisted impatiently, practically bouncing in the doorway of their apartment as he waited for his partner to finish getting ready. “It’s already dark! The lights’ll be good now! And maybe if we get there early, we won’t have to wait around in the bloody cold.” Not that Fitz wasn’t prepared. Wrapped up tight in gloves, a scarf, anything he could get his hands on to fight off the cold. If they were about to spend the rest of the afternoon and beyond exploring the city all decked up for Christmas, he was damn well going to be prepared for it.
“Patience, Fitz!” Her exasperated tone drifted through the closed door of her bedroom as she carefully applied the final touches to her makeup. “Not all of us can get ready in a minute or two, and, honestly, the temperatures won’t be that much different than they are at home.” She finally opened the door to her room and stepped out into the hallway, grabbing her coat from the closet and shrugging it on over her knit dress and leggings. After that, she then slid on a pair of gloves, touch-screen enabled of course, and wrapped a Ravenclaw scarf around her neck.
She had to resist a grin at his enthusiasm. “For someone who was extremely worried about the Christmas lights I was putting up the apartment, you seem rather excited about them now.” She gave him a pointed look, hands placed firmly upon her hips, as she stepped out of the apartment and into the hallway they shared with their neighbors. If you would have asked her a year ago what she would have been doing, Jemma never would have expected she would be exploring New York City with her best friend after somehow miraculously surviving a series of dangerous S.H.I.E.L.D. field missions.
Honestly,
I need to do something today that isn’t working out or patrolling.
Is there something wrong with working out or patrolling?
You say overreacting, I say I’m making sure I don’t end up with awful tan lines from lights in my own apartment.
Yes, yes, I’m on my way back, don’t you worry. You asked for your body weight in chocolate, right? Because I have that with me. It’s probably closer to my weight to be honest with you…
The lights aren't even ultraviolet, meaning there would be no possible way for you to get a sunburn. There is no need to overreact.
Good - the apartment is a little too quiet without you here. A little. And we couldn't celebrate Christmas without chocolate, now could we? I suppose the list might have been a little extensive, but... it's Christmas.
I have my noise cancelling headphones I can take home from the lab.
You are completely overreacting. It's only a few strands, honestly!
Just... come home soon, and we'll sort this out then, alright?
But I don’t want to be at the start of the grinches story, because that means he’s going to be up there all alone, hating on everyone except for his dog, no one deserves that.
All I'm saying is that it would be a possibility, if we are involved with the Grinch's story at all. Maybe we're not. Who knows? But I would agree; if we are in the Grinch's story, I hope it is at the end.
Oh, I've always felt so bad for his dog at the beginning.
Seriously?
I was more concerned about the fact that you were receiving strange packages every month. But if it’s just tea, I have no problem, Jemma. Promise. Why don’t I put a tea kettle on, and you can tell me about the new flavors you got.
Nope, no strange packages here, only monthly subscriptions of tea! That sounds wonderful, sir. Would you like me to grab some crumpets as well? I have some in the cabinet, and it wouldn't be any hassle, really...
Uh huh, yeah. Now tell me, how long have you been working on that one? I’m going to bring home one of those wee singing Santa’s. And I’ll rig it so it’s always singing.
Would you believe me if I said I just now came up with it? Oh no, Fitz, there is no need for that. Really. The lights are hardly noticeable; they just add a nice glow to the room. There would be no need to bring in an ever-singing Santa in our living room, especially considering you would have to live with it as well.
Seriously?
I mean, it’s kinda hard not to know everything; considering the job.
Oh! Agent Coulson, sir! I, um, I didn't think there would be an issue with my monthly tea deliveries. I could cancel my subscription, if that is what you think is best.
