This is the biggest one, but also the one with a clearest end state. I have a decent keyboard (Halcyon Kyria) that I have lost my -- admittedly crap -- qmk files for. I need to remake those, as I need to move where everything is on the steno layer, and my dvorak layer is missing punctuation, and my qwerty layer was there for games mostly, but sucks for that due to the position of the WASD keys. Soooooo... everything needs to be rejigged there.
Now as for the computer itself: I have used ubuntu, arch, debian, gentoo, and nix in the past (hating gentoo, ubunto, and debian). I would like to go back to nix as I really value consistency between my machines, and imo configuration should be done in text files. Also I would, eventually, like to have a home server (years and years down the line), and would like that to also have the same conf files as my other machines, all synced up so editing on my main machine also edits the server.
Then there's the modding (the term rice is racist, and also is too much "make it look pretty" rather than how much work I need to do for this, so I'll call it modding and theming). I have not found a WM that I really liked, and so I will be coding my own on top of river. My current design for that is as follows (while still being in the design stages. no lines of code have been written) (also this is the final fully configged wm. what i will make configurable idk.)
Tags will be global (i.e. shared across monitors). Tags 1-4 will start with apps open (browser, emacs, terminal, discord respectively). Tag 1 will have either a scrolling or master layout, 4 a master layout, 2 and 3 a regular tiling layout, and the rest either regular tiling or scrolling (I lose apps so easily in scrolling tho). Also with two scratchpads one for music one as a regular scratchpad.
When viewing 2 tags at once it will show the first of each tag in a regular tiling layout, then more and the layout switches to master (lower is master by default).
Uhhhh i think that describes what I want. Coding this will be fun, though I do need to check if I need to code this, or if this is doable with a simple shell script and some other river layout generator.

Now there's the rest of the setup. I'm unsure which: terminal emulator, file manager, app launcher, wallpaper daemon, IME (for plover, the steno app), or notification centre to use. Nyxt didn't click for me, so I will want to use a firefox based browser. Vim (well, modal editing in general) is annoying with steno, and org mode fuuuuucks, so I need to learn and configure emacs. As for menus and widgets, I'd rather do all that in one place, and I want a: main menu, power menu, taskbar, and theming switching menu. Afaik the easiest way of having them all be edited in the same lang in the same place is eww.

Now I hate it when people spend ages and ages on this sort of crap while not having any sense of making things pretty. I will, to start with, want a setup with some pretty yuumei-art or 8pxl art as a background, then as I add the ability to switch themes next is an e-ink looking setup. however I'm a bit too early in design to think of anything beyond that.
Naturally plenty of other things need to be configured, but again I'm too early to think of that. How do i know how to configure emacs if i don't know emacs and aren't familiar with it. How do I know how to configure the terminal if i don't even know what terminal I want to use.

Now for misc stuff. I want my emacs agenda to update automatically between all by machines, and I want to have a backup system finally (in such a way that changing the back up to a home server later down the line is easy). I want certain files to be synced to a usb drive that has a keyfile to decrypt my machines, and for that drive to be decrypted when it is plugged in, again keyfiles are more than fine (even if technically a detatched header is better, who give a shit)
There's so much crap that I want/need to do and have wanted to do since I were a kid. I want to have easy access to this list on all devices as I'm starting to go through it. And maybe people would find what I'm doing and why interesting (even if you already know all the information aside from my wanting to learn it).
So here is a list of general things i want to do and why. When there is any reasonable update to these i will post that too. The list is under the read more.
I cannot guarantee updates to these in any reasonable amount of time, I expect it will take at least a year to knock off a single thing from this todo list. I also need to prioritise studying for my degree, and these are secondary/tertiary things (perhaps behind rest and play)
Handwriting:
The text that was written there is "I don't like my handwriting. I often write the wrong letters and it is not very legible. I would like to have neater writing. Especially at speed." This transcription fixes any misspellings.
This took a bit to write, not that it was slow, but that it's slow for looking like that. Also I need to write quite a bit for my maths degree, as typing maths is annoying.
I would like to be able to write proper script (aka cursive), as that pretty as fuuuuck. Also it is nicer for writing for longer periods of time, as your wrists don't try to kill you.
I will be learning the Palmer Method, as its pretty enough, but also: free, designed practically, and the book seems to be rather well written (if a little dated) without having any copy book aspects (which I hate). Also the best practices and drills recommended in it are (vaguely to very) similar to those for drawing. I will be giving updates every 15 lessons (there's 146 lessons, so 10 total updates).
Drawing:
All my family and friends draw, and I've wanted to learn since I can remember. But being surrounded by very talented artists is a very easy way to constantly compare yourself to people leagues and leagues ahead of you.
... But I no longer care much about that sort of thing.
I want to learn from drawabox, as from what I've seen it clicks with my brain, and I want to focus on a foundation while I can so later I can draw what interests me (the sea/ice in pixel art, and life drawing) without learning to hate them by being crap at drawing.
However, I am busy, and this is one of the least important of this list to me. So It may take a year or so until I can start it (limited energy while having no current schedule and pulling myself out of a year or so long depressive slump) and even then it will be a backburner thing. I will figure out an update schedule when I start it.
STKPWAEF:
I have wanted to learn stenography and pen shorthand for probably about a decade now. I know basic steno, as I've been learning on and off for a while now. I'm learning Lapwing theory, and it's nice. I won't update beyond when I finish they theory book and when I hit 100wpm (and I guess if I hit 200).
I also want to learn Gregg shorthand (anniversary or notehand, not sure yet). This I will give updates when I start it. Again, backburner (this is the least practical of the lot, so will be started last). Gregg as its fast, pretty, and importantly doesn't hate you like Pittman does (in Pittman different line thickness and line height give different sounds. So you cant use it with most pens, or while half asleep. And reading it is hell.)
Linux / the computer one:
This is the biggest section because I am an idiot who has no backup system, and so has lost everything multiple times. I am currently on a fresh system and it suuucks. I have lost my dots, my downloaded music, everything. I will post another post for this as it is that big, though.
Running / exercise:
I need exercise after not getting basically any for a year. There's tonnes I would love to learn (capoeira, climbing, gymnastics) but I not only need to get my stamina back, but running is something I have done for ages and is easy to ramp up and down as and when I need to.
When my dad taught me form, he taught me the same as he learned when practicing for marathons - the form in Run for your Life by Dr Mark Cucuzzella. I will be following that book as well, when I get back into a routine of studying.

you have too much fat and not enough water in your dough
you cooked on way way too high. way too high.
you didnt wash your hands. why risk disease over crap food?
your dough was too thick
you didnt let your dough get to room temp before handling it
you burned your garlic
you didnt cook your onion for long enough
also really you didnt handle your dough well like at all.
your spices were garlic and salt. (add at least pepper and mustard too)
your dough had no salt
your fillings had too much salt
your meat was unseasoned, all the salt went to the onion and mushroom
i dont cook with mushroom but i imagine adding salt to them isnt the best when you want a juicy filling.
your pan was incredibly overcrowded
your portioning was fucked
your portioning was fucked in multiple ways
you used mushroom instead of swede (aka rutabaga)
if you want to add cheese to the filling. its best to put it and the spuds in the pan for a bit and let the cheese coat everything
you didnt cut your spuds to a shape that is more consistent with your meat
you cut unsafely, explained how to cut safely, then cut unsafely again.
not peeling the spuds is fine, i guess, but not the done thing.
you did do one thing perfectly though: you didnt offer your partner or cat any. (also he was good at combining the fats with the flour when making the dough. like shockingly good technique. a lot lot better than i am at that.)
