here is your daily reminder;
Apollo, historically, wore dresses!! (or rather, the ancient greece equivalent to a dress today)
why don’t you read a poem about the sunrise written 5 centuries ago and contemplate the fact that we have been writing about the same sun for centuries upon centuries and then maybe you’ll calm down
Festival of Hestia 12/31/21-01/01/22
I propose a new holiday in the reform Hellenist tradition. I give the first and the last day of the year to Hestia, She Who is First and Last. Since the last day of one year and the first day of the next bump against each other, it forms a two day festival to Hestia.
Reform Hellenism acknowledges that we are in a new age and believes that the Gods can be worshipped in modern contexts as well as ancient contexts. So, why not have a new Hestian New Year to coincide with the Gregorian New Year?
Ways to celebrate:
Reflect on the lessons of the past year and your goals for the upcoming year
Meditate on the Virtues of Hestia
Write down the good parts of the past year and burn the paper in thanks to Hestia
Make offerings and libations to Hestia
Show hospitality to guests
Tend a fire throughout the entire festival
Begin a new journal or planner for the upcoming year
Burn last year’s planner or journal in a sacred fire
Write a Hymn to Hestia
Create art for Hestia
Appreciate Hestia as She is

Did I tell you of the time I saw the visage of Apollo? He sat languished outside the hospital His golden eyes hung low and shallow
“Such beauty, Apollo! I am humbled, truly!” I fell down on my knees, I begged him then for prophecy to do with what I pleased
He chose to humor me in that parking lot, Arousing his Divine endurance, Rising high, looking down upon me to ask, “Do you have health insurance?”
“What is your copay? Can you afford to have this happen again? Have you paid your doctor’s bill?”
“I’ll see who is in network- Or if they are not, Have you written a decent will?”
But how is this prophecy of a Healing and Merciful God? I whisper to him that I am uninsured, Suffering the degree to which I am flawed?
But then He laughed to my Spirit with a kind smile on His face, “Tell me why you find me so relevant in this place?”
“If I am King here, then Artemis surely must be a Queen Of slaughter houses hoarding animals Running their bodies through machines.”
And with this He vanished into the beauty of the setting Sun, Leaving me in the parking lot, Thinking of the words that He spun
And it is at this moment that I remember my chronic body and the decaying Molar in my jaw, That I can’t pay to have remedied, So on it.. I will gnaw
Pagan Deities
This part is separated into “deity categories” where I will only be listing the deities in each category because they may overlap and I unfortunately don’t have the time to go through every single deity, if any interest you by name feel free to look them up, but the categories should be helpful if you want to find a deity in a specific category, there are 15 deity categories from the website I used and I want to make sure my sources are good, so any feedback with corrections or additions you think I should add to it are greatly appreciated, especially since not every culture is represented in every category :)

Physical Ways I Feel The Gods✨
so im at work right now, but yesterday i was at the beach, just listening to the gods and feeling. i only recently began to feel the gods i work with, so i thought id share a few ways i know one god is with me or not.
for hermes(my patron), its mostly in the wind. ill think of him and a breezeless day will turn gusty, or ill feel air tickle the backs of my calves or thighs. sometimes ill be in my house, and a draft will come in a place where i dont even expect it. otherwise, i feel hermes in random bursts of energy, or finding money in unexpected places. for example, yesterday, i didnt have cash, yet i found the exact amount of coins i needed to pay for a birthday card in my car. mind you, i never carry change with me, let alone do i leave it in my car. he makes me feel loved and connected in ways i never expect.
for aphrodite, i feel her in my skin. i'll get goosebumps, or a chill down my spine, but most of the time, i feel her in the random awareness you sometimes get of your nerves and the surface of your skin, that manifests in tingles and pins & needles. it almost feels like shes placing kisses on my arms and legs. its her way of making me pay attention to my now. my body in that moment. shes asking me how i am feeling, and what i can do to better that. she also makes me feel beautiful, and my hands will sometimes feel extremely soft.
with apollo, i feel him in the warmth of the sun. particularly, i know he is with me when i think of him and the sun gets hotter. you can physically feel the intensity. i always forget to wear sunblock, so maybe its his way of reminding me(tough love(T_T)). i also feel apollo in when i am listening to music, and i have no thoughts in my head besides letting the melody enter my ears and result in pure euphoria. ill get goosebumps, chills, etc. just feeling the music to my fullest ability.
i feel sobek in the form of what feels like a hug. you know those kind of protective hugs that make you feel safe? yeah, like those. sometimes ill feel like my entire being is in a bubble. you know when you just feel so tuned out to the world, but so protected? almost like a trance? thats sobek. he makes me feel safe, like he is alert and ready, and i can take a step back.
asclepius i feel in the desire to take my medication. im extremely anemic, and i always forget to take my iron supplements. i also take some other vitamins, generally because i have a pretty weak immune system. he gives me that desire, and reminds me. i also feel asclepius in the relief of muscle aches. i have a really bad back, and he will try his best to relieve that pain, even if its just for a moment. i appreciate him with all of my heart. he really does his best to make me comfortable, healthy, and happy(but he is not afraid to smack some sense into me when it comes to taking medications).
the fact that i can now start to feel the gods in things is such a reassurance, but do not think that if you dont feel or hear them, they are not there. they are always there. keep believing in that fact, and you will feel them. it may not be in the same ways as mine, but the gods interact with different people in different ways, and you'll figure it out!! ❤️✨

Mesomedes of Crete's "Hymn to the Sun"
The roman-era greek poet Mesomedes is said to be the composer of a few ancient melodies that we know of. One of them that I seldom see around here is the said Hymn to the Sun - an hymn to the Sun-God Helios, although bear in mind with me that on this particular era (around the 2nd century ACE), I believe Apollon and Helios were already very much conflated, the same goes for Artemis/Diana/Selene.
But without further ado, let's appreciate the song a bit. Which, by the way, you can listen to here.
Hymn to the Sun
English:
Father of the Dawn with her snow-white eyelids, you who follow in your rose-pink chariot the track of your flying steeds, exulting in the gold of your hair, twining your darting rays across the boundless vault of sky, whirling around the whole earth the thread of your all-seeing beams, while flowing rivers of your deathless fire beget the lovely day. For you the peaceful chorus of stars dance their measure across Olympos their lord, forever singing their leisured song, rejoicing in the music of Apollo’s lyre; and leading them the silvery-grey Moon marshals the months and seasons, drawn by her team of milk-white heifers. And your benevolent mind rejoices as it whirls around the manifold raiment of the universe.
I hope you guys appreciate it! May we always honour the Gods with their lovely hymns and art. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on something or even expand the post.
May Eirene (Peace) be with you!
Shadow Work Prompts
If you saw my earlier post about beginning shadow work and are looking to explore your shadow self through journaling, I’ve included some beginning prompts that can help you get started! If any of these prove difficult, I encourage you to spend some time thinking through the topic and perhaps exploring it outside of your practice.
Write a letter to someone who has hurt you.
What grudges are you holding onto?
Who has helped you the most in your life?
What is your biggest insecurity? Biggest strength?
How can you use your strengths to overcome your insecurities?
Are you an optimist or a pessimist? Why?
What is a habit you have always wanted to have?
Write about a recurring dream you have and try to analyze it.
What careers/hobbies/activities draw you to them? Why?
Write a letter to yourself 5 years ago. What would you tell yourself?
Write a letter to yourself 5 years in the future. What do you hope has changed?
Do you feel that you have a good support system?
What is something that would greatly improve your life if you had it?
Do you consider yourself to be a jealous person?
These are the prompts that helped me the most when I was beginning my shadow work. If you have more general questions about what shadow work is or why practitioners recommend it, be sure to check out my earlier post!
As always, leave a comment if you have a prompt or practice that has helped you with your shadow work!
Because Christianity is the most common religion, a lot of beginner practitioners think the gods are wrathful. They really really are not.
The gods are patient and gentle and kind. You’re going to make mistakes and mess up when practicing Hellenic Polytheism. I know I did many times. You don’t need to fear their wrath, they aren’t here to scare you into respect.
I feel like if the Old Gods were so wrathful, we'd be seeing a lot more wrath happening. They've got a LOT to be pissed about.
