It’s truly hilarious. I look on Twitter and Tumblr and see everyone in the 5H fandom happy and excited and supporting each other. Not only the fans, even the 5H parents (mainly Clara and Andrea) and the girls. It’s like watching an episode of the Care Bears. Anyone inside the fandom who thinks this week and the last were fishy, wrong, and full of double standards is almost impossible to find. And it’s not even hard to miss.

It was a great week, wasn’t it? Full of new music and performances… but oh wait. I said something about this was fishy, wrong, and full of double standards, didn’t I?
Okay, let’s do an experiment. Look at the list above and switch the names “Lauren Jauregui” or even “Ally Brooke” with “Camila Cabello”. Yes, I’m going there. Let’s pretend this was what Camila did in 2015 or 2016. If you’re now scoffing and getting angry, then you’re welcome. You belong to the group of people who are living by the double standards. Say hi to Clara and Andrea for me. Or even the rest of the girls.
If Camila did any of the above, people would have been even nastier to her than they were in the past. They would have hated her even more. Not just the fans, even middle-aged people like Clara and Andrea. They wouldn’t have celebrated her or would have been proud of her - they would have called her an attention seeker, a snake, a back stabber, an egoist or at the very least thrown some shade.
So where are those fans now? Where is the outrage? Where is the shade from middle-aged mothers? Why aren’t the girls being quiet about all these solo projects when they’re in the process of promoting their goddamn single?!
Don’t pretend I’m wrong. I still remember very clearly the time when people in the fandom started to say that Camila should concentrate on promoting her group’s singles rather than her own. That nothing should take away from the focus of Fifth Harmony. It didn’t matter that the singles were usually already old and on the radio for weeks if not months. Let’s see…

… huh, how curious. Looks like Camila actually waited to release any solo projects until the last single of each album was already released and thoroughly promoted! How very curious, indeed. Seems like she communicated enough with the group and knew of their schedule to know when to do her solo stuff and when not. It’s truly all about communication and respect!
I mean, I totally get Fifth Harmony’s reasoning. Let’s be honest, they’re trying to get their individual careers going. Fifth Harmony - despite what they say on television, radio and social media to promote their “unity” and “sisterhood” - is not their priority anymore. Their future is. And the future isn’t a girl group. It never was, as Lauren said multiple times in the past. Solo careers are their future and they need to get their names out there, individually, to get noticed. People might have heard of “Work from Home” or “Worth It”, some even the group’s name Fifth Harmony, but they don’t know who - for example - “Ally Brooke” is. And that’s what the girls are now focussing on. To get their names out, to get offers to work with other artists and producers so they won’t be unemployed after the group is over.
And looking back at everything they said or did in the past, you can totally see it. Their group dynamic changed somewhere in the past few years. Some people didn’t understand the shift and chose to look for someone to blame and they found a pretty easy target. And to be truthful, Camila probably was the cause. Not because she intended to be, but because there were four other girls in the group, teenage girls with their emotions all over the place, who got suddenly confronted with something they didn’t like or wanted to think about.
The fans and some 5H moms, though? Who willingly shaded and bullied a complete stranger, a teenaged girl / young adult, on social media and are now celebrating the exact same thing that they had been bullying/shading her for in the past? Those I do not understand. Some people really live for all these double standards, but I’m truly not a fan of this hypocrisy. To each their own, I suppose.
