A Warden that feels resentful over Alistair shifting off the responsibility of leading is an interesting point, and a very valid interpretation especially if they know so little of the world and are now expected to be the one to lead. Like an Amell/Surana Warden.
On the flip side though, depending on the kind of person the Warden is, it could also be a huge boon. They are given proper agency and power for what could be the first time in their life. Sure, they’re limited by their duty as a Grey Warden but the myriad of ways you could go about with that duty really speaks to how much choice they were given. They’re free to let companions come and go as they please. They’re free to speak their mind and have the final input with major decisions. They have the power to decide how the journey goes, where to go, who to help, how to handle situations. For someone like an Amell/Surana, whose life was majorly controlled by the Templars, wouldn’t that be enticing on its own?
You could probably extend it to Tabris and Brosca as well, but less so with a Cousland or an Aeducan. It’s the beauty of designing your character, there’s so much that can change depending on their background, and depending on the kind of person they are.

and on the topic of alistair, i think also a lot about his idealism and how i think he is like that as a way to sorta protect himself? bc i guess its easier to deal with things if you have a sorta more nicer look on the world, if you assume people had good intentions but something went astray then having to admit that oh this person who was supposed to take care of you, who you looked up to, they did a bad thing knowingly. its easier to think that your long lost sister is going to accept you than to think that hey she is just a random woman this is not a great idea.
and i think back to like. Ostagar. If the warden asks alistair what the grey wardens are, if they're knights or heroes, he says this:
he acknowledges head on that wardens aren't this heroes of legend, that they do some fucked things to end this blight. he saw duncan murder a frightened man in order to keep the wardens secret safe. but then, during the game, after ostagar, after he goes through this great traumatic experience of seeing everyone he cared about die, it almost. feels liek theres a shift? like especially with the loghain situation, i know there were personal feelings there but its also like. the wardens WOULD 100% recruit loghain, and alistair almost doesnt want to acknowledge that. bc after ostagar, maybe idealism, the idea that this order CAN be heroic, is the only way he can cope with what happened.
idk idk
