A WITNESS TO MY CRIMES
Nothing they learned from Tek-Knight - fuck, or even before that - sat right. Not for Ben anyway.
The feeling crawled into his chest and settled there like a goddamn poison. All because she never actually escaped them like she had thought.
At best? Tek-Knight spent his evenings tugging his hog while watching camera footage from the strip club. All while watching Ry trying to exist in a world without Ben.
At worst? Vought knew where she was the whole damn time. Letting her think that she had some sort of freedom from their reach, letting her live for almost twenty years, hiding in some shitty town in Long Island believing that even if life was hard, at least she was free. And then have it all be a lie.
She was taking it much better than she should have, he thought.
Logically he knew that he wasn't nearby at the time. Stuck in his own version of hell that looked like a sterile lab in Russia. But that part of him knew that Ry had been his? That he was supposed to be the one standing next to her? Well, there was a bit of something he refused to call guilt, and guilt was one of those things he had no interest in dwelling on.
