I see a lot of people hating Mothwing for the way she treated Shadowsight in Darkness Within but tbh I just wish more was done with it. I actually think her anger with Shadowsight makes sense considering her past. She was manipulated by her own brother and that definitely caused some lifelong trauma for her. I do think it makes her a more complex character that she’s angry at another victim for falling into the same trap she did. After all, now that she knows the signs, how could anyone else fall for something so obvious? She’d never fall for Ashfur’s tricks.

But then she realizes hang on… she sees herself in Shadowsight. She sees Hawkfrost in Ashfur. Does her feelings towards Shadowsight represent self blame? Does she still hate herself for allowing her brother to manipulate her? Because the signs were there. It was so obvious. Yet she still trusted him.

Mothwing and Shadowsight are both victims, and she can finally understand that.
