Ice Cream Makes the Sadness Go Away- SKZ 9th Member
(Takes place just after debut)
Changbin could tell something was wrong with Heejin, but couldn’t pinpoint what. So, once practice was done and everyone was heading out he made his way over to her. “Hey, Heejin.”
“Oh, Changbin, hey. Can I help you with anything?”
“I just noticed you were a little out of it today, is there something wrong?”
“I’ve just been a little too in my head lately.”
“Oh? Why is that?” He questioned as he sat next to her on the couch.
“I’ve been reading a lot of comments, and how maybe they’re right.”
“Right about what?” Heejin was silent for a second, and Changbin noticed, gently placing his hand on hers.
“That I shouldn’t be in skz. That I don’t fit the group's image, that I should have stayed eliminated.”
“That’s not true, none of it. You belong to be here just as much as the rest of us. I know we aren’t the closest, but it wouldn’t be the same without you. Stray Kids isn’t Stray Kids without you Heejin.”
“You mean that?”
“Of course I do. Now, do you want to go get ice cream?” Heejin laughed but agreed nonetheless. “I know how much ice cream makes you happy.”
“I have been eating a lot more recently.” The two laughed as they made their way out of the practice room.
“I think there’s like 5 tubs of ice cream in the freezer.”
“Hey, those aren’t all mine!”
“Right sorry, four of those are yours.” Heejin shoved the older boy lightly as they left the jyp building. “Oh! We should let Chan know we’ll be out for a bit.”
“Ah right.” Changbin quickly sent a text before they left for the convenience store a few blocks over. The two bought their ice cream and sat outside at the little table set up. Practice ended late
at night so the city was practically bare, all but a few past the two. Heejin hummed as she bit into her ice cream causing Changbin to laugh.
“Does it really boost your mood that quickly?”
“Yup! I mean my talk with you also helped. But mostly the ice cream. Thank you though.”
“For?”
“For everything you said. And for taking me out for ice cream.”
“Well, I just spoke the truth. You wanna know something?”
“Hmm?”
“After that night you, me, Chan and Jisung went out to eat, the three of us went and talked to jyp.”
“You did? Why?”
“Because like I said earlier Stray Kids isn’t Stray Kids without you, and he needed to know that.”
“Well, thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now stop reading mean comments.”
“Ha ok, ok.” The pair finished their ice creams before making their way back to the dorm.
It’s been about two weeks since the whole incident with Chani, Misun hasn’t heard from him once since then. Just a few texts from his members letting her know how he’s been doing. Although, what they didn’t tell her was that he often came home drunk, spending the evenings out at bars or clubs. Showing up to practices late and hungover. It wasn’t until he showed up at Ateez’s dorm did Misun learn of his actions. “Oh, Chani? What are you doing here?” Seonghwa asked as he was the one to answer the door.
“Is Misun here?”
“Yeah, she’s in her room.” The boys knew all about what had happened two weeks ago, Misun came home crying that night and told them everything that happened. Seonghwa watched as Chani headed to her room, swaying slightly. “Chani. Are you drunk?”
“Hmm? No, I just had a little to drink.” Seonghwa had a hard time believing him but allowed him to go anyways. Misun was lying in her bed watching a movie when Chani knocked on her door. “Misun, it’s Chani.”
“Oh uh, come in.” He did so making his way to her bed. “You can sit.” He sat at the end of the bed as Misun put her phone down. “Did you want to talk?”
“I was wrong.”
“You were.”
“I shouldn’t have gotten so jealous, it was stupid of me.”
“It was.”
“Misun.”
“Yes, Chani?”
“I’ve been really stupid lately.” Misun looked at him confused before he continued on. “I’ve been going to bars and clubs almost every night. I’d come home drunk, and go to practice hungover. I was actually there tonight before I came here.”
“You’re drunk?”
“A little.”
“Chani. Before I left that night, Inseong told me you’d been acting out, long before the whole thing with Jaemin. What’s going on Chani? Are you ok?”
“I’m ok. I just… I’m just, I’m insecure. I’m not good enough for you. Look at me. I get drunk, I get jealous over stupid things, and I lash out on my members. You deserve someone better, that’s why I don’t want us to be official. Because you’re better off without me.”
“Chani, that’s not true. We all have our issues, heck I was terrified of men for like a whole year. But you helped me get through that, you were there for me when I was on my hiatus, you visited me almost every day. I’m not better off without you, I’m better with you.” Chani pouted and moved to wrap his arms around Misun, the two of them falling down onto the bed.
“I’m sorry, for everything.”
“You should be. But apology accepted. But no more clubs and bars ok?” He nodded, placing his head on her chest as she ran a hand through his hair. “Although, I’d never expect you to be a cuddle drunk.”
Heejin was no stranger to Minho's house, his parents knew her almost as well as her own. Minho often jokes that she’s their favourite. Heejin loved going to his place solely for one reason and one reason only, well technically three. Soonie, Doongie and Dori. Which is where she was now sitting on the floor, Soonie in her lap, Doongie with Minho and Dori running around chasing a ball. She scratched Soonie’s head, listening to them purr as they repositioned in her lap. Heejin leaned back resting her head on the front of the couch. “Hey, Heejin I’ll be right back ok?” Minho spoke placing Doongie on the couch next to him.
“Mhm.” Heejin sat quietly for a minute or so before she felt something touch her head, followed by a tap and another. She turned her head and watched as Doongie followed her hair before jumping on it. Heejin laughed reaching up to rub Doongie, who tried to swat at her hand. “Hey, what do you think you’re doing?” Doongie jumped, scrambling to the other side of the couch. Heejin laughed and beckoned them over, scratching under their chin. Heejin hadn’t noticed Minho entering the room once again, smiling at the sight before him.
“I think they’re starting to like you more than me.”
“I highly doubt that.” The two chuckled as Minho returned to his spot, Doongie immediately returned to his spot on Minho’s lap. “See?” Minho laughed as he pet Doongie.
“You are the only member they get along with.”
“That’s true they hate Seungmin.” The two both laughed causing Soonie to stir in Heejin’s lap. “Oh! Sorry Soonie, go back to sleep.” She soothed the eldest cat allowing them to fall back to sleep.
“Uh huh, and you’re actually a cat.”
“Hey! Don’t reveal my secrets!” Heejin rolled her eyes causing him to lightly shove her with his foot. “Don’t roll your eyes at me Missy.”
“I wouldn’t if you didn’t say so much dumb shit.”
“You’re lucky my parents aren’t home. They’d disown you immediately.”
“I don’t think they can disown someones who’s not actually they’re child.”
“I think they’d beg to differ. They literally have your grad photo framed and on the wall.” He spoke pointing to the said photo.
“You may have a point.”
“I am always right.”
“Sure you are.” With one more shove Minho settled back into the couch, as Dori jumped up next to him. Minho smiled as Dori curled up next to Heejin’s head, burying their face in her hair. The two continued to chill around, petting and playing with the cats before it turned late and the two needed to head back to the dorm. “Minho. Thanks for letting me come by all the time. They help me relieve a lot of stress.”
“I know what you mean. It’s like they absorb all of your worries. But you don’t need to thank me. You’re welcome anytime.”
