" I want to dedicate it to my mother. She was here 25 years ago. And this is like a proof that art can endure through life"
Fernanda Torres dedicating her Golden Globes Best Actress win to her mother Fernanda Montenegro
Fernanda Montenegro — and family — reacts to her daughter, Fernanda Torres, victory as best actress at the Golden Globes ♥️
To all Brazilians and non-Brazilians, if you have the opportunity to watch Ainda Estou Aqui (I’m Still Here), please do, the movie is a masterpiece, it’s emotionally captivating, the cinematography is breathtaking, and it’s based on a true story of a family during the military dictatorship in Brazil.
“Forced disappearances were one of the cruelest acts of the regime. Someone can come into your house, take your husband away, throw him in jail, and then say ‘He’s gone’”.
(The two actresses who played Eunice Paiva (the protagonist), Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro, are a real-life mother & daughter, and Montenegro (the mother) is the first and only Brazilian actress to be nominated for the Oscar. 🥹❤️)
FERNANDA TORRES JUST WON A FUCKING GOLDEN GLOBE OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
After seeing that shitty frenchamerican movie about mexicans without any mexican cast winning so many awards im glad Brazil winned this! I dont even care about oscar, this is HUGE!!!!
"I'm still here" isnt just a random film. It is about the military dictatorship, which on the contrary of countries like Argentina and Chile, Brazil didnt punished most part of the people that did and colaborated for all the deaths, crimes and opressions, and many families still and probably wont ever know where their family members were "buried/disposed".
And not only historic value and resistance against military coups (which are a constant threat with the rise of extreme right in Brazilian politics and military), this is a win for the lack of support and acknowledgement brazilian cinema has, by our own government and by gringos, that keep on pretending the world is just hollywood and some few european countries
My position is that gringo awards arent the reason we make films. But it does help a lot. It attracts investment, international film companies, something continents like latin america doesnt have compared to japan, korea, china, india and european countries own independent film and shows productions, so much they even have prestigious relevant cinema and tv show awards season.

FERNANDA TORRES GOLDEN GLOBES WINNER
26 years ago Fernanda Montenegro was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in CENTRAL STATION. Today, her daughter, Fernanda Torres won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for I’M STILL HERE. Both movies directed by Walter Salles. What an incredible full circle moment for my country.
