Hello! I'm very pleased to meet you-- I'm Nell Mayberry, a Pokemon Ranger currently working in between regions. I hope we can get along! ((Indie Pokemon Blog reboot of nell-x-adventure. Hiatus.))

((Late nights and stress seem to bring out some nostalgia in me, so somehow I’ve stumbled upon this blog again. Hello, anyone who might still be around to read this~

It’s been a long while since Nell has been at the forefront of my mind, though she has been much more so in the past year as I’ve been playing Final Fantasy XIV and slowly been easing my way into the roleplaying scene there, my character taking small sparks of inspiration from my experience here.

I’d love to ramble on about my life for the past few years, but this really isn’t the place to do it. However, if you’d like to see what I’ve been up to, I’m really active on my XIV twitter account (@allaganmelons) and semi-active on my fandom twitter account (@asunnybreeze). Discord messages (sunnybreeze#4805) are also very much welcome. I’d also love to hear how you all have been doing!

Though she’s trying so hard not to admit it, Nell is frantic. There’s so much to do still, but at least there’s hope that it’ll all be done in time. Baking treats, buying and wrapping enough gifts, finalizing travel plans...

...and she’s pretty sure that egg is close to hatching, too.

Well, that was true – Charley was talkative, if ignorable when she was focused on something else, as it was. If he’d gotten into something, Beth definitely would have heard him, at least, and the Chesnaught tilted his head to the side in confusion when Beth laughed at the mental image.

“Y-yeah, that’s true…! Anyway… it’s n-nice to meet you, Nell. I’m Beth; Charley and I are… here for contests.”

…Admittedly, the implication may have gone over Beth’s head had Nell not proceeded to point it out. She’d meant Verdanturf Town as “here” herself, though it probably didn’t need further clarification at this point.

“That… might be nice if you did, though… wouldn’t it?” she commented lightly.

Nell couldn’t help but pause when Beth mentioned contests. She assumed automatically that she was here to compete; not many spectators liked to travel out to Verdanturf, though loyal viewers would. Though she had performed herself at one point in time (years ago), Nell had never actually gotten to speak to any of the upcoming coordinators after quitting.

So surprise, surprise.

"...I-It’s nice to meet you too!” She tried not to linger on her prior thoughts and collected herself, managing to ignore Phlox’s charm-like giggle at her side as he watched his trainer closely. Glancing around her, she addressed Beth’s question, “I think it would be really nice to live out here-- right on the edge of town, with all of these flowers.”

She looked back at the other girl, “But I like my home already! I’ve lived there since I was born... But maybe a location like this would suit you more than me?”

“Hmm... Oh! I’ve been teaching myself how to sew again so that I can make little accessories for my team! I still have a lot to go over, but I’m proud of what I’ve gotten done so far.”

The Cherrim’s over-eager greeting actually prompted a quiet laugh from Beth. It was definitely more at Phlox’s behavior than the resulting tumble, so she hoped the blonde didn’t take it the wrong way! Beth covered her mouth for moment, but she smiled when Charley looked up and waddled over to her.

The Chesnaught grinned and handed her the large amount of flowers he’d collected. Beth nodded and patted him on the shoulder as she took them, and then turned back to the other girl.

“Ah, yes…! A-and no, he was fine… he seems quite friendly… And I hope Charley w-was good for you?”

The larger grass-type pouted and folded his arms, prompting another small giggle from his trainer.

It always made Nell happy to see others interacting with their Pokemon-- something about watching the short transfer of flowers from Charley to the girl and his pouting when she asked if he has good just warmed her heart up... even more than it was normally, anyway.

“I think you would have noticed if he hadn’t been,” Nell pointed out; Charley seemed the talkative type and with the way Nell had yelped just moments ago when Phlox surprised her, the other trainer surely would have known something had gone wrong if it had.

She moved to scoop Phlox up into her arms, but the Cherrim moved to hop back down into the blooming plants in front of them instead, so Nell opted to leave him be and stand up instead. “You’ve already met Phlox,” she gestured to her Pokemon as he hopped over near Beth again, “but my name is Nell! We both live here!”

There was a slight pause after she stopped talking, in which she blinked and slowly amended her statement, “...W-Well, not here here.” She gestured to the flowers around here before pointing over in Verdanturf’s general direction, “We live in Verdanturf Town!”

“Drastically, huh...?

I guess I had to change a lot of stuff once Keye and I broke up, like where I was staying and such... I-I think I ended up taking a lot more hours for patrols after that too. We had come to Hoenn for him, mainly, so I wasn’t planning on working as much, but I guess it worked out in the end.”

“I don’t remember why, specifically, but I really wanted to be a Ranger when I was little... My parents had always urged me to become a Trainer though, so that’s what I ended up doing when I went to Kalos-- after I completed the league, though, someone suggested that I go to Almia to the Ranger School, and everything just kinda restarted there!”

“Personally... I don’t think I would be able to. If I knew about things that they had done when I met them, I don’t think I’d have room in my heart for feelings like that to grow-- i-if that makes any sense. If I didn’t know until after falling in love...”

She shakes her head slowly.

“In the end, you can’t really help who you love, right? It’s not just something you can throw away at a moment’s notice... If any finger-pointing is necessary, then the blame shouldn’t be on the one in love, but the person who has done bad things, shouldn’t it?”
