John Singer Sargent - Girl picking flowers

I live in Vancouver and my studio is close to a heavily industrialized area and shipping port. There is an ever-changing landscape there of cranes, large cargo ships, shipping containers and train cars. Every day the stuff moves around differently and changes what I see and the colour arrangements. I’ve been drawn to this imagery for quite some time and I finally got around to painting this piece, which explores the colour variety and busy, clustered nature of the area.

I do a lot of city scape paintings here in my home town of Vancouver, BC, Canada. My main focus is alleyway paintings. On a recent trip to Hawaii, I stayed in a beautifully colourful and interesting town called Kapaa (Kauai island). Upon my return, I blended the imagery to create a new and unique space that I wish I could eat pineapples in :)
