Song of the Day: "Facing the Sun" - Fritz Kalkbrenner
Fritz Kalkbrenner, Berlin native, gives soul to the techno genre exhibited in his LP, Here Today Gone Tomorrow. His beats are heavily influenced by his first musical devotion; hip hop. The track "Facing the Sun," demonstrates Kalkbrenner's broad grasp of varying musical genres and proves that hip hop, soul and house are not opposites, but rather all planets in the same galaxy.
Sunset Chasers Music Preview - The Creators Project SF, March 17-18, 2012
SWEET RELIEF! Something to take our minds off of all those lucky bastards in Austin, Texas this week for SXSW. The Creators Project, a two-day art and technology festival at Fort Mason will serve as an amazing distraction for indie-music lovers left behind in SF. The festival will include artists from several genres like indie rock, frenetic electronica, avant-garde hip hop and dance music. Check out the tracks featured below for a taste of what's to come!
Die Slow (Tobacco Remix) - HEALTH
Sunset Chasers is particularly stoked to check out LA band, HEALTH on Saturday. Check out their jammy track "Die Slow (Tobacco Remix)" featured above to get a taste for what HEALTH is all about. We can't get enough of their DISCO2 album and can't wait to get down to their dancey beats this Saturday.
Brooklyn Sunburn (Brothertiger Remix) - Teendaze
Ohio's Brothertiger has remixed "Brooklyn Sunburn" by Vancouver artist and chillwave favorite, Teen Daze ahead of Teen Daze's debut LP, All of Us Together, which comes out on May 22 via Lefse. Catch Teen Daze this Saturday for an undoubtedly daze-inducing set.

VIDEO: "Skeletons" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
We're stoked that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be playing, bringing the post-punk rock from Nick Zinner and Karen O, fresh off their recent psycho-opera collaboration, Stop the Virgens.
VIDEO: "Shut Up and Play the Hits" Trailer - LCD Soundsystem
We all thought we had said good-bye to LCD Soundsystem, but James Murphy, the restless artist that he is, will be joining the Creators Project this Saturday alongside other members of LCD, Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang for a DJ set. They'll be closing out the night and we can't wait to see what they have in store for us.
Song of the Day: "BB Bleu" - Kid A
Some chilled out electro for you on this rainy San Francisco day.
VIDEO: "Pillow Talk" - Wild Child
As far as male-female folk duos go, Wild Child is instantly one of our favorites. Although Wild Child is a six-piece band, at the core of the group is the singer-songwriter duo of Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins. The song "Pillow Talk" quickly made it to our "hit repeat all day" list with its poignant, achy lyrics. "Pack my things I'm leaving... wish I could stop breathing... know you'll be coming back for me." The entire Pillow Talk album is full of simple, yet unique and youthful love songs seemingly born of sincere emotions and experiences that anyone whose ever had a full or broken heart can relate to.
NEW VIDEO: "Nancy From Now On" - Father John Misty
Former Fleet Foxes drummer, J. Tillman, continues to deepen his presence as a solo artist. We are loving the next video installment for his Father John Misty project featuring track "Nancy From Now On" from his upcoming debut LP Fear Fun. The clip was co-directed by Tillman and Amy Cargill, and features Tillman getting weird with a leather-clad lady.
Fear Fun is set to be released on May 1 in the U.S. via Sub Pop, and through Bella Union in the UK and Europe on the same day.
Prior to his Father John Misty project and leaving Fleet Foxes, Tillman produced several solo albums. Below is a beautiful video of his song "Firstborn," from Vacilando Territory Blues (2009), and filmed as an episode of La Blogothèque's "Take Away Show."

Song of the Day: "Amour" - Pale Seas
Pale Seas, the UK band formerly known as Netherlands, has given Sunset Chasers a bit of a wake-up call this morning. "Amour," our favorite track from their EP Something or Nothing, presents a haunting soundscape of adolescent nostalgia coupled with an unavoidable layer of optimism.
Originally from Southampton, the four-piece band released their Something or Nothing EP yesterday which includes the tracks "Something or Nothing" and "Amour." Led by singer Jacob Scott, the band recently recorded with producer/engineer combo Jimmy Robertson and Demian Castellanos (Anna Calvi, Big Pink, Florence & The Machine, Exlovers).
Perhaps my melting heart is due in part to the band's similarity to an old favorite, Mazzy Star. "Amour" possesses the same stripped down beauty of "Fade into You" and will catch you off guard with its simplicity. In the era of the DJ and the remix, it is incredibly refreshing to hear a new band whose original sound only continues to charm after multiple listens.
The song "Odessa" off Caribou's album Swim, released in April 2010, is sure to make you get off your butt and dance to the beat. This song pairs well with sunshine, beer, and good friends. Enjoy. . .

Memoryhouse's highly anticipated new album, The Slideshow Effect was released earlier this week! You can stream it in the video above or on Soundcloud, but it is also available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.
I had the opportunity to see Memoryhouse play a private show a couple years ago in San Francisco - at that point, I had never even heard of them. What began as a collaborative multimedia project weaving together the compositions of classically trained musician, Evan Abeele, and the photographs of Denise Nouvion, gradually grew into what we are hearing today. The above video features the band's new full-length album paired with Denise's often heart-tugging, nostalgic imagery.
The Slideshow Effect is exemplary of the shift we see many small-time music groups taking as their "bedroom recording projects" grow roots and become fully realized bands. Denise's once hazy, dreamy voice has grown stronger and more present in the new album. Her lyrics, on the other hand, are still imbued with an ingredient that sets Memoryhouse apart from its electro-dreampop contemporaries; that of human sentimentality and the vulnerable sound of heartache. Although I am fully loving the pair's new album and their move toward upfront, intimate vocals, I am still a fan of their older experimental, reverbed sound. If you haven't listened to their EP, The Years - I demand that you go give it a listen and float away on a Memoryhouse cloud for the next 20 minutes.
