Building Self-Esteem when you’re Struggling with Depression
1. Get into the habit of challenging your thinking – especially when it falls into old negative patterns.
2. Keep a thankfulness journal – and deliberately look for the good things in your life.
3. Spend time with people who can see your strengths, and who make you feel good about yourself.
4. Keep some photos or mementos that remind you of your passions – so these can help inspire you to enjoy life again.
5. Leave positive notes and quotes around your room, or inside your wallet, or on your desk, or phone.
6. See failure as a stepping stone that leads to further growth – and as something that is common, and experienced by us all.
7. Deliberately nurture and care for yourself – and see this as essential, and a top priority.
Two job-hunting resources that changed my life:
This cover letter post on askamanger.com. A job interview guide written by Alison Green, who runs askamanager.
useful
Alison Green’s advice works.
Alison Green got me all my interviews from 2012 onward, I am reasonably sure.
Alison Green is basically my life guide.
Mine too - she was my most visited website for the first few years of my working career, and I cannot emphasise enough how much her advice helped me navigate how to behave in a work environment. You name it, she has an answer for it. Definitely a life hack.
As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don’t respect the sea, if you’re going to the coast, here’s a thing I saw on Facebook.
reblogging for all of us that grew up in land locked states, then visit the ocean and are used to just plunging into a lake.
Dude I live in a state with beaches and there are no flags and I never learned this.

All useful ❤
I still remember the nightmares I had after my dad let me watch the original Pet Semetary as a kid. Which of course means that I have avoided the trailer for the new one like the absolute plague!

“I’m a non-Christian living the South, I can’t even go to a god damn potluck without having to thank some space fairy for the broccoli casserole, and honey, it makes me a little uncomfortable.”
I’m WHEEZING.
This is me at every family gathering.
‘and fuck Nancy Grace, too’
Sunday
- Levi let us sleep in until 8 this morning, so I rewarded myself by getting ready and going to the grocery store early after he had breakfast. It was still busy, but not nearly as nauseating as usual.
- I have my procedure on Thursday and have to be on an all liquid diet on Wednesday. So I stocked up on chicken broth, italian ice, and jello. I also cannot have anything red, purple or blue. So I’m left with lemon jello and lemon italian ice. Wednesday is going to be a longgggg day.
- Instead of taking my usual quick nap while Levi was napping this afternoon, I dusted, did the dishes, and got my workout in! I have usually just been soooo tired that I need it, but today I felt better just getting stuff done.
- Ron’s mom came over and we all went on a long walk and she bought us dinner. Levi went to sleep almost instantly when we went into his room once she left. He layed his head on my chest as I was getting him in his sleep sack, and my goodness that boy has my whole entire heart in the palm of his hand.
- We started watching Schitt’s Creek on Netflix, and I am obsessed! About to settle in and watch a couple episodes. Only thing missing is a glass of wine but I was so early to the store today that part wasn’t open yet.
Goals
This week I started P90x3 and I have to say, I am impressed by the fact that I have only missed 1 workout (which I will make up on Sunday). I’m excited to get back into a little bit of shape and I can already feel a difference in my mood and energy. I really just want to be able to run around with Levi, and carry his 25lbs when I need to, without feeling like I’m dying or have a sore back for the next however many days. Over the last couple months I have had trouble with a knee, overall muscle soreness, and tweaked a nerve in my neck. I’ve finally come to realize how much my lack of exercise and movement was effecting me. So, here’s to hoping that I can keep my motivation going and not fall off like every time before.
Levi went for his 3 week checkup after having tubes put in his ears. Hearing has improved, tubes are in place, and everything is looking awesome!! Woohoo!!!
