you know what? I have searched down in all of jeverus/snirius/snupin fics for time travel aus and most often than not it's always severus the one who gets sent back after his death
what if it's the others that go back?
what if it's james since he is the first to die and tries time and time again to change the outcome but nothing seems to work until he notices that he hasn't tried something: being a fucking civil person to snape and grow a friendship with him
what if it's sirius the one that comes back? right after the veil he falls back into his teenage body. he suffers a meltdown thinking he has gone insane, echoes of a future that still hasn't happened yet torment him. the deaths of his friends playing everytime he sees them, the rage he feels whenever he sees peter knowing he was the traitor. he ends up reluctantly now seeking snape, the one who dumbledore seemed to trust, the spy, the one who warned him time and time again of his stupid recklessness and never listened.
what if it was remus? seeing how his cowardice affected the people he cared time and time again. he goes back, just in time of SWM and just as james is about to cast the levicorpus, remus disarms him and finally does something. he takes distance with his friends and tries to talk to them about how horrible they have been, he tries and apologizes to severus for everything and, while the other doesn't trust him, remus does anything he can go gain his trust and prevent him from being harmed by the future that is ahead of them.
what if the four of them come back? once peter dies, they four get back at the same time at the same moment. james is the one who knows less since he was the first to die, and peter is the one who knows more. the distrust grows within the group and chaos ensues until they realize that they gotta change or they will end up dying again. and that change gotta start with one person. snape.
