i think there is something a little funny about how regardless i put up they/them pronouns as a preference i am still regularly referred to she/her pronouns or feminine terms (when i don't refer to myself by them at first) because of me usually having a cutesy profiles

White Fear has always been funny (ironic) to me. It's like, imagine a white person walking in the room, perpetually paranoid of everyone of Color around them, of being The Murderer because "look how strange they're all acting around me, they must be suspicious. And yet, THEY'RE the one covered in blood and holding the knife, the body count number floating over their head.
Like, Buddy, yeah we're acting weird, YOU'RE the one that WE gotta be worried about 😭. I'm scared of YOU.
To use a US specific example, it's like how there's so much fearmongering of being victims of Black and Latino men with guns and gun violence, a violence that white people usually don't even experience because they're not even in the same spaces.
But the demographic most likely to be a domestic terrorist, the mass shooters, the ones that find diverse places and murder people... Are white men. When I go to the store, to church, to work, to the movies, to school, the odds that the person who will walk in and decide to Let Fly is a white man! That's something we have to keep in our minds every day!
But somehow this has not made everyone that "matters" (I.e., other white people) deathly afraid of white men, despite actually, statistically fitting the mold, in comparison to the heightened stereotype of Black and Latino men being gun wielding thugs. Goes to show the power and projection of white supremacy.
Not to get personal on this post, but someone I care about deeply had an experience last week due to this exact phenomenon. One of my best friends is an autistic black man. He's "high-functioning" (personally dislike the term but it's a relevant descriptor here) so many people at his job, even his managers were unaware.
He works at Meijer Grocery Store, and his position is mainly to corral the shopping carts among other things. A white man pulled a gun on him the other day.
My friend was going to take his cart in the parking lot. He never touched the man's cart or him. While in the guys vicinity, he simply flopped over in the opposite direction in a poorly received joke, as if bumping into something. The white guy flashed his gun at him and took it out, essentially threatening my friends life because he didn't understand what he was doing.
White male paranoia, anger, and anxiety is normalized in this country even if the result is unwarranted violence. The cops, store managers, his coworkers, HR, and even strangers all agreed it was all agreed it was unnecessary escalation. Yet they also placated the white man, who claimed he was protecting his children, and he saw a large man in a hoodie (it was rainy/windy that day) move strange and assumed mal intent.
The next day, HR concluded that my friend "initiated " the interaction and would still get an unpaid vacation day taken off and his first infraction warning on his record. They saw the video. They asked him why he didn't back off, to which my friend replied: I was talking to him to deescalate. I'm also autistic so it was jarring that he had the response, I couldn't understand where it came from. They agreed the other man escalated. Yet he was still punished. In my opinion this ordeal was racist and abelist. I'm disturbed by what could've happened to my friend if the man had pulled the trigger.

i cant fathom how the concept of flip phones being this ultimate way to detox yourself from social media while being able to still do important things and having little ways to indulge yourself is unbelievably unpromising due to it being more high maintenance than a regular phone
sometimes i stop and think what even is the point of me expressing opinions on what i think could've been better or at least interesting writing choices for media like films or a tv series or games especially when my concerns aren't related to anything that may not perpetuate any social & systematic harm (ex: bigotry) when everything's been done and it's not like anything can change. but idk i guess the point isn't for something to change. its to Think about things because Thinking is kind of nice sometimes
i think about this sometimes because the usual answer to why express writing thoughts & why think about this stuff is because i want to be a better writer. and while that is true, i think i (maybe others too) sometimes fall into the habit to depend on needing a "justification" to think about writing choices a little Too Deeply and expressing these thoughts. but maybe its nice to think about these things. Share them too. it's kind of human to think about what art can do and to think out loud too and we exist to do that so why not
