ngl i don't care for how waid wrote ultraman and superwoman. they were too nice to each other. i need superwoman openly flirting with owlman in front of him at minimum.

thinking back to that kon and jon one-shot where jon indirectly called kon government property. it's very in-line with jon's brand of centrism because, even though he said that about arnie and kon took that as a dig at him too, jon didn't mean it about kon. kon and arnie may have been made by the same people, but kon looks like him. he is a person to jon in a way arnie isn't.

i'm also having a lot of thoughts on jon's politics and worldview because too many people see jon as the woke superman simply because he's bi and i think that's reflective of a larger mindset in the real world. being queer does not suddenly exempt you from bigotry or a conservative mindset, especially when you are also white.

"The Superboy Experience" in DC's Hawk-Girl Summer (2026) #1 really hit some good notes for Kon and we've needed a story like this for awhile. One that explicitly goes into Kon's past as an exploited celebrity, how much he has grown since his debut days, his internal conflicts about still being perceived as he used to be, and of course how close he is to Bart (and how much Bart cares about him).

Honestly this short by Cavan Scott is what I think we've needed for a while, because much of what Kon (and Bart) has been in recently has fallen pretty flat, for Kon in particular as he's shuffled between writers that have.... missed the fucking plot.

Anyway, it was refreshing to read. I know writing like this is not going to last, but what we got was nice.
