Watched the 2011 documentary “Magic Trip”, earlier today, a documentary that reconstructs Ken Kesey's cross-country bus trip with his Merry Pranksters using footage from “The Movie” they shot to document their LSD-fueled journey to the New York World's Fair. And I enjoyed it. And it helped me understand Ken Kesey’s Acid tests a little better. And “The Movie” footage came out better than expected.

The only thing though, in my opinion, is you should read or have read “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test” by Tom Wolfe first before watching the documentary to understand it much, much better and know everything that happened during the journey and what actually all took place during it.

Finished reading “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test” book by Tom Wolfe today, and wow, it absolutely blew my mind! It was crazy! The Pranksters were very immature and all over the place, most likely because they were tripped out on LSD the majority of the time, the writing style was weird and I had a hard time comprehending some of it, but I think it fit with how Tom Wolfe was trying to capture and explain the Acid Tests and what they were like. And yes, the book did get lengthy at times, but thinking about it, I believe the book had to be lengthy at some points in order to try capturing the whole Acid Tests and try to convey in words how they were, how they started, what they looked and felt like, what everyone’s experience through the whole Acid Test experiment was, the best way possible in writing.

So overall I thought it was an excellent book. It’s certainly not for everyone, of course, but if you’re a hippie who was alive during the 60’s hippie era and was able to experience it, is a younger hippie or new age hippie who never experienced the 1960’s west coast California hippie era, and/or just want to learn about the hippie era, and you’re 16+ (the book contains a lot of mature themes), then I recommend you read it.
