In this monologue bit Emily Blunt bursts into song about getting/being happy and they planned a bunch of interactions with the audience members during the song - giving them puppies, getting a massage, a cake with a girl’s face on it - intended to “get happy.” It’s SNL so it’s tongue-in-cheek and the castmembers seem annoyed with Emily for making them do this maybe, but if it were just a bit darker, more Malthusian, I think it would tap into that dark and uncomfortable place where the inherent un-sustainability of excess feels right on top of you, already collapsed.
