Also I need to add that even if their training data was in house they still would be training on art that would not be given explicit consent for ai use bc multiple artists have worked there before the ai boom
Not to mention teams that don’t want their work used for ai (like zzz although you shouldn’t be play zzz bc it’s main artist is a known lol!con (waterkuma)
Hoyo is partnering with Duolingo a ai first company so that should tell you more as well
I find it incredibly frustrating how a community that swore up and down that hoyo would never use ai to demean and put down vas for being concerned for their job stability even after striking actors got fired
Yet when hoyo has repeatedly shown that they will use ai in their development and partnered with ai companies including the co founder who is VERY pro ai people are dead silent
Fans are anti ai until their favorite media uses ai and then people will make excuses and down play
Also also on a more artsy fartsy level gen ai cheapens any and all games and this hold especially true for gacha games or just games with heavy micro transactions
Don’t spend money on a game that doesn’t care enough to be human made and just constantly kicks you in the face
Gacha is inherently predatory adding gen ai makes that predation even worse
(Also also also on a personal note having character chat bots for games that prey on people’s attachment to the game and its characters is gross as hell and fosters a unhealthy mindset for players who may be vulnerable and lonely for connection. I don’t care how sophisticated the ai is it’s dangerous to add things like this to a game like this)
Adding this into this post so more folks know and don’t support this bc it’s nasty work
HoYoverse announces plans to invest $14.6 billion into AI over three years AI development across gaming, NPC systems, and future projects.
Not buying from hoyo is one thing but you gotta stop playing full stop if you wanna show them you don’t want this as live service game like these really need active players even a login is good for them (I think they mainly track log ins any way)
Also remember that they could’ve used this money to put back into their games with human artists, writers, coders and the like
They could’ve easily come to a settlement with the strike and put ai protections into writing (which they didn’t and still don’t it’s still a pinky promise)

Because they are a recognized, billion-dollar studio and my game isn't
And there’s the theft allegations which are quite damming here (hoyo has made references in events most events minigames from what I played when I was still a fan were game homages lie the star rail rhythm heaven one.) the main issue is taking from a small indie company and giving no credit or anything while mihoyo are a billion dollar company
Don’t play their games don’t support the company or games
Support other devs or writers or artists give them shoutouts talk about them just support them (the game Ouros here is available on mobile and steam fro very cheap)

Now they have taken inspiration from other games several times with various quality and originality but those were largely big devs. If this is true and it unfortunately looks so then it looks real bad. (I’m also not gonna make a post on that bc again the theft allegations there are quite debatable at times but here it’s less so)
I think that people should be able to make any game without someone patenting and game mechanic tho I think in terms of indie devs you should ask at the very least
