You Are My Hero is an unofficial Supercorp fan zine created for charity. All profits will be split equally between The Trevor Project, the Transgender Law Center and Futures Without Violence. With so many fantastic contributors (contributor list) joining together to create so many brand new pieces of Supercorp art, writing and merchandise, we couldn’t be more excited to finally share this with you!

I am asking you to denounce big bang. they are stolen the idea from magazine you create and are as if they ignore my warning, but they need to feel shamed and admit to lie. I am knowing that they will admit if you out them.

Hi there! Mod Grace, here. There seems to be some sort of misunderstanding, but I am happy to help clear the air. Please rest assured that the Supercorp Big Bang is in no way, shape, or form stealing our idea.

Like zines, big bangs (or “bangs” for short) are one of the older forms of organized fandom collaboration besides zines! While zines started as a print-based collaboration back in the late ‘60′s with the first Star Trek fandom, big bangs came about in the mid 2000′s as a riff on the zine format as the internet became more widely used as a haven for fandom. The original bang was a Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy fest in 2005 almost 16 years ago, and is credited as the origin and style of today’s fic/art exchanges. (Coincidentally, I think I’ve been in fandom juuuust a little longer than that.) While it wasn’t intentional, the first big bang started with, well, a bang-or a sudden flood (or explosion, lol) of fan created content! Things have changed as fandom and the internet have changed, but at its core bangs are largely in part fic and art collaborative projects that feed a surge of content into the fandom. Just like zines!

I would personally classify the SupercorpBB as an “Closed Big Bang”, or one that has a limited application period where those who sign up are the only ones to participate. There are other distinctions such as an “Open Big Bang” that is generally moderation-free and only has a specific posting time frame, and then “Reverse” versions of these events. The difference between a bang and a reverse bang depends on what form of fandom content is being created first! A bang starts with fic and artists are matched, whereas a reverse bang starts with artists. It is also fun to note that bangs have historically included all kinds of visual art from manips to collages to videos-even music!

So, no. They aren’t doing anything wrong, they aren’t lying, and they certainly don’t have anything to be ashamed of. There is nothing to out them for. The @supercorpbb is carrying on a classic fandom tradition, just like we are! I would encourage you all to be kind to the organizers, as I feel this is simply just a misunderstanding and gap in our shared fandom history. Our fandom is quite large and full of creative people of all walks, and I think having the bang is a wonderful way for us to keep building and feeding our fandom community. I hope this helps clear up some confusion!

With that being said, I know that the reverse bang is in need of more artists! If you would like to join them and meet some new friends, go check out their post with their application forms! The more the merrier. ❤️

For VOLUME 4!

That’s right, we’re getting ready to dive right into the next installment!! We’ve still got a few plans left to share (including the future of the zine) so stick around this week for more news!

As for volume 4, get ready because applications will open in just over a week:

Applications for volume 4 OPEN November 8 and CLOSE on December 13!

We’ll be looking for new artists and writers to join us through next spring, so if you’re interested keep an eye on us for the application form links on November 8. Writer spots are very competitive and we have to limit those spaces due to physical space in the book, so please submit what you think is your best work! There will be more specific rules in the actual application form so please be sure to read it carefully. Please ask us if you need any clarification!

As a reminder, what you submit will NOT be in the zine. Should you be accepted we’ll ask you to create something brand new for volume 4! If you don’t have your work online you can submit your art or writing in a google folder linked in your application.

Hello everyone! We are so happy to FINALLY announce that the Supercorp Zine Volume 3 was able to raise a total of $23,734.11 USD!

We split our total raised amount of $23,734.11 USD evenly between The Trevor Project, the Transgender Law Center, and Futures Without Violence!

Each charity received a donation of $7,911.37 USD!!

Brief summary of images:

Image 1: The Trevor Project donation receipt of $7,911.37 USD.

Image 2: The Transgender Law Center donation receipt of $7,911.39 USD, this donation was gifted to support the Black LGBTQ Migrant Project program. There was a leftover 2 cents we couldn’t divide between the three, so we placed it here.

Image 4: Smartpress order receipt including the physical zines, sticker sheets, bookmarks, postcards, and shipping of $o,297.80 USD.

how can you look at kara and lenas relationship and not see that they’re soulmates. like. kara literally traveled thousands of light years to get to earth and lena was taken in by the luthors of all people as a child just for both of them to end up in national city. and then they meet and despite years of bad blood between their families, despite lex and clark and everyone thinking that a luthor and a super would never work together let alone like each other, they become friends. and then they build this beautiful relationship based on love and unconditional support and they’re willing to die for each other without hesitation and they save one another countless times and they fight for each other against all odds and they love so deeply that being torn apart hurts more than anything ever has. and of all the things kara could be tempted with, from returning to krypton to getting her aunt back, she’s offered a second chance with lena because that’s how much their relationship means to her. and then within this world kara is still willing to reveal her identity to everyone and risk her life if it means saving lena’s. how could you possibly read that as anything other than a love story.

In Regarding Charity as a Competition

Hi everyone! We wanted to take a moment and discuss an issue that has been brought to our attention over the last few weeks regarding our charity project and the potential contention between us and other projects of a similar nature. 

We would like to be upfront about our goals and our intentions for the Supercorp Zine, and what we do and do not condone for our zine. 

This project was created by fans for fans for the explicit purposes of enjoying the Supercorp ship and raising money for charity. We are continuously blown away by the amount of love and enthusiasm that our fandom has generated for this project as a reflection of our intense passion for Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor from Supergirl. 

However, this zine was at no point created as a source of antagonism to other projects or other fandoms. While we appreciate support of our project and our efforts, we do not condone the practice of comparing our success or our donation amounts against other charity projects or efforts by other fandoms. 

We are about love and compassion and lifting each other up, not putting others down or using our achievements for bragging rights. We are first and foremost a charity project, so we are pro-charity in all of its shapes, colors, and forms, and we would never pit ourselves against someone else’s goal for charity. Our contributions should never be used to prop up our fandom as superior to other fandoms, because we are not better than others when it comes to our ability to give to charity. Any and all donations are special and should be celebrated for what they are: efforts to help the impoverished, the less fortunate, and those who simply need the help and compassion that charity extends. 

From all of us here at the Supercorp Zine, we ask that your enthusiasm for this project remain positive, especially when it comes to discussing other similar fandom projects.
