âThereâs a huge difference between a womanâs love and a manâs loveâŠâ

I love this so much. A very important desi problem tbh
HOLD UP GUYS, THIS DUDE MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED FOR HIS INDIAN BADASSERY
This is Nav Bhatia with his âactor/rapperâ friend at an NBA game. In my previous post, I was more focused on his âfriendâ, but after some internet research, I feel that this dude deserves some more god damn recognition.
The 58-year-old Sikh is also the most famous Indian face on the North America NBA circuit with his official anointing as the âSuper Fanâ of the city-based NBA team called Toronto Raptors for creating a record of watching over 500 games. âI am the only Super Fan anointed by the NBA. Each season, I spend $300,000 to buy 3,000 seats out of the total 20,000 for games held in Toronto and distribute them free to Indian kids to watch these games from front rows. The images of our kids in turbans and Indian dress beamed into millions of homes make white people aware of our identity,â he says.Â
Want to know why he does this?
âI was walking into a Bell cellphone repair centre when a white guy, who was talking on the phone, said loudly: âHoney, I have to go now, my cab is here.â Seeing my turban, this guy thought I am a cab driver. I was so hurt that I decided to do anything - spend any money - to change stereotypes about us,â says Bhatia.
So what, though, right? Itâs an easy mistake to make, itâs not like heâs ever been discriminated against when looking for a job, or even getting white peopleâs leftovers? WRONG
This super successful man started his Canadian dream with odd jobs. âThough I held a degree in mechanical engineering from California State University, I couldnât find a job because of my turban. Finally, a Chinese car dealer gave me a break as a salesman. Within three months, I sold 127 cars and was promoted as manager,â he narrates. Impressed with his track record, Hyundai offered him to turn around a troubled dealership. Bhatia not only turned it around within a year but also bought it in 1989.
so wonderful
âAfter this I go to work at a pizza shop. My wife and I were college professors in Bangladesh. I taught accounting. But one dollar in America becomes eighty dollars when we send it back home.â
People forget, when immigrants come to this country they start from scratch. They could have been lawyers in their home country, but in the US..it means nothing. You think a HS diploma from Bangladesh means anything in this country? My mom was a top student in the country, went to all the best school and got the best of everythingâŠbut when she got here it meant squat and she was cleaning other peopleâs homes and scrubbing their toilets. This is why I get pissed of when people talk smack about immigrants. They at least are doing somethingâŠ..heading for a goal..making sacrificesâŠwhat are you doing with your life?Â
^ My parents were college-educated teachers in their home country and came to the U.S. with nothing but empty pockets, a dash of hope, and a belief in God. They also scrubbed toilets in peopleâs homes to make enough to provide for their children, and thatâs probably not something a lot of educated professionals would be able to do. I know I wouldnât be able to do it. Pride would get in the way.
Shout out to my tĂo who studied medicine, graduated from Universidad AutĂłnoma de MĂ©xico and is a doctor back home but cleans toilets and puke in this county to give his family a better future and leave them better things.
How is it that are so many pretty brown girls but like 5 good looking brown guys? #Indianculture

Indiaâs Daughter (2015)
Bollywood stars Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Shahrukh Khan, Dia Mirza, Katrina Kaif, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, and Kareena Kapoor (and tons more) endorsing skin whitening treatments and fairness creams.Â
Colorism in desi populations is rampant, especially since all of these people are âfairâ to begin with, but even they want to get whiter skin. Colorism is internalized in us. Look at the way they present fairness in these ads: âhow true is your fairness?â, associating fair skin with âhealthâ and âperfection.â How damaging is this messageâthat fairness is equivalent to beautyâto all of us? Especially when itâs being endorsed by the same people desis look up to.
i watched this literally 12 times
I know Iâve reblogged this already but this is like porn for me
Love the blog and you really understand my life right now. Also, great advice :)
