just thinking about how quick leon is to offer reassurance all of the time.

he’s been the one to try and take the hit since re2. it’s always been a part of who he is. re9 just puts a huge magnifying glass over it. he doesn’t only try to take the hit. he’s also trying to assure those around him that it’s okay. he’s prepared for this. he goes into every mission prepared for this.

grace is his mirror. he recognizes that quickly. it becomes only more obvious later — whatever it takes, count me in. so he’s doing for her what he didn’t have. reassuring her at every turn so she knows it isn’t her fault. making her promise to end it even if something happens to him, because he isn’t what’s important. the mission is. he doesn’t want her to have any regrets, not like he has.

that’s what makes the canon ending so, so good. they make it out. he gets to give her something else he didn’t have — the chance to go back and save someone. to leave raccoon city without any regrets. she’s his mirror and leon got the opportunity to shield her from a lifetime of sorrow and guilt. the lifetime he’s had.

Chris’s message at the end of re9 is literally just an hour of Chris yelling at Leon about going on this mission ALONE when he’s DYING and not fucking telling anyone either of those facts. Sherry gets a lecture too.

Father-daughter duo who absolutely neglected to tell EVERYONE they’re both dying so they go out to find the cure themselves.

Chris is having an aneurism, Claire is angrily loading a rocket launcher, the Burtons won’t stop calling, Jill isn’t much better, Rebecca is already planning on monitoring their condition regardless of if they’re cured or not, Helena is in the office and looming over Sherrys desk like a gargoyle.

So I'm still on that RE Requiem hype train and the other day I thought "hey what's that song Leon was listening to in the car on the way to Raccoon in the RE2R?"

Anyway, it's this one and somebody please explain to me how the lyrics are foreshadowing Leon's entire life, I caaaaaan't:

To be honest, i can't watch the bad ending of Resident Evil Requiem. I've seen it once, and i don't want to see it again. For me personally watching Leon gets killed is just unbearable. Honestly i cried because i found this scene too heartbreaking. He doesn't deserve such a cruel fate. It is unfair. Being a person who dedicated his whole life to helping people selflessly Leon, without a doubt, deserves the luxury of dying in piece at 100 years of age, lying in his soft warm and cozy bed, being surrounded by those people who he genuinely loves. I am extremely glad to know that the bad ending of the game is non-canon, otherwise my life would never become the same again.

Such a selfless man deserves "normality"—the warmth of a bed, old age, silence. Seeing violence take the final word on him almost seems like an insult to his life's mission.

It's just a "what if darkness wins," a nightmare that serves to further enhance the true ending, the one where hope (and Grace/Elpis, the spirit of hope) survives.

It's precisely in moments like this that the acoustic version of Through the Darkness becomes a refuge: it transforms that pain into a sweet melancholy, reminding us that, despite the horror, Leon remains the hero who chose to remain human.

The darkness lost. It's ok.

Resident Evil has always been a lesson in resilience. Those narrow corridors represent the moments in life when we feel overwhelmed, with no room to maneuver, where the only option seems to be to turn back. And those damned closed doors on the other side? They're the obstacles you can't force, but they force you to take the long way around, to evolve, to find a key or a different perspective.

In Requiem, this concept reaches its fullest meaning: the "solution" isn't just surviving, but managing to maintain one's humanity intact along the way. Leon has found his key in his bond with Grace, transforming a claustrophobic journey into a mission of salvation.
