... As attacking you but I feel very passionately about it. I know there a good people who struggle with it, but there are also bad people who struggle with it. And I don't pity them, because they put kids through hell. And no kid deserves that.

It wasn’t seen as attacking me :) You are right! no kid deserves to be made to feel like that, because of their parents. I don’t know how old you are, but if you aren’t old enough to move out, if i may, I would suggest either asking another family member if you could live with them. Maybe tell them what is going on or get counselling. It can help in so many ways, even just having one person there who you can talk to makes a huge difference. 

So many kids feel like they are the one with the problem, because their parents make them feel like that. But they are not. They are stronger than their parents, and deserve to feel happy and free. 

It is hard to make your parents realize that they have a problem and they are the problem, just know that it isn’t right. It shouldn’t happen, and you don’t have to be alone through it, you don’t deserve to. :)

My story

My story started from the moment I could really take in what was going on. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I was a bit older, I do remember always crying when my mum and dad went to the pub, I remember my older sister always having to sort them out and be the parent of the house. When I got into my teens and started secondary school, I had a very hard time. I always used to be tired due to being kept awake all night, I was depressed and had numerous counselling sessions which didn’t help me at all. 

All through my teenage years, my eyes have been opened up to all the stuff that was going on. Most of the time, I can deal with it. On occasions, when my mum is so drunk that she injures herself or ends up in hospital again, that is when I can’t deal with it.

For most people, they will look at an alcoholic parent and think that they are a rubbish parent, or an alcoholic and think that they don’t care about themselves and that they are generally a bad person. NO person with an alcohol problem is bad, they just so happened to get lost in life and turned to alcohol. Like many of us who do get lost in life. Half of them don’t even want to drink anymore, but for some it’s gotten to a point where it would be more dangerous to stop.

So next time someone says that their mother or father are bad people, or that anyone who drinks is a bad person. Think about what they might have gone through in order to get to that point. Think about how horrible and rubbish they must feel, knowing that they have made your life hell and that you think they are a bad person for that. 

All I know, is that my mum does not want to do this. She thinks she is a bad mother. But she is not, if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be  the person I am today. Your parents do love you, even if they don’t show it sometimes. They just need someone to show them that they are there, it is a lot of pressure for a young person. But no one else will do it because they don’t know what to do, and some will automatically assume that your parent/parents are bad people because they didn’t do what normal parents would do. 

I couldn’t ask or want for better parents, couldn’t live without them.

Don’t forget that there are people out there who want to help you, you just need to reach out and talk to someone.

Life with alcoholic parents. New Blog!

Thought I would start a blog where people who have experienced this can share their experience and their stories. It’s going to hopefully be a place where people of all ages can come for support and someone to talk to. It’s a matter, that i hold close to my heart and I think that people don’t have enough support on this.
