Support Your Local Ghetto - is back!
Naja… not really back.
My buddy from Leipzig, LXY, asked me if I would like to join him on stage to present his label Alphacut Records at an event happening in Berlin on the 21st of November.
We’re going to talk about Leipzig and Drum & Bass way back in time. What was actually happening there while everyone else kept staring at the UK Drum & Bass scene — which, in my opinion, had become a bit boring after Y2K? Was Leipzig going through something similar, or was something different growing under the surface?
We’ll dive into LXY’s musical history: growing up in East Germany, discovering sound in a place where access was limited but curiosity wasn’t, and exploring what drove him to launch a vinyl-only label in the early 2000s. A bold move back then — or maybe simply a necessary one.
It’s going to be super interesting.
In the meantime, get a small glimpse of what’s waiting for you over on Soundcloud:

My first radio experience was way back in Munich, when I had a show on Radio Feierwerk. It was the first time being on air, and I was pretty nervous when suddenly the “on air” light went green. But then—nothing happened. Airwaves don’t show you the people. Ha!
Later in Berlin, I had a show on Sacha’s pirate radio station Twen.FM. This was when the name “Support Your Local Ghetto” was born. I played 2-step, garage, etc. and I had fantastic guests from all over the world. Later, it became my night at Panke Club in Wedding. You can read more about it here.
So, yes! Fun! Back in the role of the interviewer. We will record this and let’s see how it goes — we might publish it. Video AND audio.
Happy me — I’m also playing some music afterwards.
Here is the promo text from AGEM, pure poetry, right? And hey..how often have you seen a promoter is doing SO SO SO many artworks for a party??
Throwback to the 90s Berlin. Barb Nerdy is on air, hosting her pirate radio show Support Your Local Ghetto on TWEN.FM 88,4 MHZ broadcasting from the studio in the Torstraße. The illegally mounted antennas sway in the wind, picking up faint city noise.
Tonight’s guest: LXC - founder of Alphacut Records, one of the organizers of the legendary Bassmaessage events, a true stalwart of the Leipzig underground. Nearly three decades deep and still keeping it real.
It’s 2025, and we’re sitting in a dim Kreuzberg basement, surrounded by cables, absinth glasses and beer bottles. Barb and LXC talk about the journey of Alphacut Records - the legendary underground drum’n’bass and jungle label from Leipzig. They discuss the challenges of keeping the DIY spirit alive, whether through organizing events, running pirate radio shows, or pressing leftfield jungle tunes on wax.
Right after that, Barb Nerdy steps behind the decks to set the tone for a night packed with underground drum’n’bass and jungle, selected by some of Berlin’s finest local DJs - and LXC itself.
