Happy birthday Chef, I know you aren't here to see how many people will be telling you it. All I can do is hope that you can feel it in some type of way. They're making a movie about you, well about one summer of your life. Youd hate it, that seems to be the unanimous thing everyone can agree on. "Bourdain would hate this. I can't wait to see it". I can already tell they're probably gonna white wash it too, god knows how much you'd hate that. You'd be proud of what the industry is trying to do. Mental health is actually a conversation now. There are more Anthony Bourdain wanna bes than ever. You'd hate those guys just as much as we do. I like so many others owe you so much, I don't care how cheesey that is. I don't idolize you, but your book is what gave me the push to go to school and get out of the job I saw so many others get stuck in. You'd hate what this country is doing so much, "No one understands and appreciates the American Dream of hard work leading to material rewards better than a non-American". Myself and many other like cooks are doing what we can to protect the men and women who risked everything to work alongside us, and that would make you proud. It feels strange to quote you in a letter to yourself, but you aren't here to read it. Rather a bunch of random people will, hopefully some of which hold you in the same regard myself and so many others still, and always will. My generation might break this industry, but we might make it what you wanted it to be. I hope we make you proud Chef, that's all any of us want. Granted I'm assuming praise from you is a rare occurrence, but hopefully we earn it eventually. Reading comprehension is seemingly lost, more people than ever are reading your words and thinking this is how the industry should be. You'd hate it, but I wish you were here to yell at them on Twitter. It's getting better though, and I know you saw change when you were still here to see it. I hope we continue to make those changes, if not for ourselves for you as well. Happy birthday Chef Anthony Bourdain, the industry cannot forget you, no matter how much you wish we would.
