Jensen scrubs his hand over his face as he wanders into the bathroom, flicking on the light. He glances at himself idly in the mirror and before he can turn away, something makes him pause. He leans in closer.
Ten years to the day; he knows it, suddenly, somewhere in the back of his mind, as clear as though someone had shown him a calendar. Ten years since he and Jared had wrapped their last scene on Supernatural; ten years since he’d said goodbye to Dean for good.
Still staring into his mirror, Jensen watches the change come over his face.
It’s subtle, barely noticeable. A slight steeling of the jaw, a small narrowing of the eyes. Shoulders drawing up just a fraction, chin lifting just a bit.
Dean looks back at him in the mirror.
“Hey, man,” Jensen says softly. “Been a while.” He lets one side of his mouth quirk up in Dean’s lopsided smirk. “Missed you, bud. Hope you’re doing okay now. You and Sam.”
One green eye closes in a wink, and then Jensen slips back into himself; softer, gentler, more open.
“Bye, Dean,” he says once more, turning off the light as he leaves the room.
I can’t decide if this is heartwarming or actual horror.
I didn’t ask for this pain.
Short, bittersweet, beautiful, and OUCH.
