Roleplay Partner Search, A Clarification and some tips.
After a few responses in a similar vein, I feel like I ought to point out that you don’t have to be an experienced Roleplayer to get in touch. Even if you’ve never done one before, so long as you can put words together to make sense and you’re willing to try, every thing else is just time.
Also, I may have been a little draconian with my rules. Don’t be creepy is the only concrete one, and here’s a hint, if you are worried about coming across as creepy, you’ll probably be fine. The creepy ones don’t seem to give a shit. And if you do drift that way, I’ll give you a warning first, as the lines can be a little blurry when your hands are between my breasts giving me chest compressions. The other rules are more guidlines, but should be kept in mind.
Now for some tips, especially for first timers.
1. Role. Decide on your role and stick to it. I don’t just mean Rescuer or victim, I mean are you a paramedic, a doctor, a friend? Decide at the start and establish it in your first few messages. As a victim, set the scene, what are the symptoms or what event has occured
2. First Person. Once you have your role, inhabit it. Write as though you are in the situation, write what you would do. Writing in first person is much more immersive and enjoyable.
3a. Rescuers remember RFA. Response, Feelings, Actions. This is the framework to keep in mind with every message. Respond to anything new in the previous post, describe your thoughts and feelings, perform your next Action.
3b. Victims, RCH. React, Condition, Hint. Describe your physical reaction to the rescuers latest action. Report any changes in your condition. Hint at what you want the rescuer to do next. This is the bit rescuers need to pay attention to, because:
4. Mutual Effort. Both participants will have desires, and will have limits. Consent is so important when it comes to enjoying Roleplay. You need to be aware of what your partner wants. I say this especially to rescuers, as yours is the dominant role. While victims are putting their ‘life’ in your hands, and you can do whatever you want, ultimately they have control. Ignore the things they want done and you’ll be the one ignored, permanently.
If anyone else has any other tips, feel free to stick them one here too.
And a reminder, if you want to try out, just send me a private message that follows on from the setup in this post.
This is actually a really good guide to keep in mind when roleplaying, even outside resus, in fact.
Other than point 2 - which is a matter of preference, mine is third person - the same rules and suggestions apply here.
(Also sorry to everyone currently in an RP with me that has ground to a halt; once I get my time managed better I’ll be around more.)
When I lost my old blog, I lost touch with all the anaesthesia / mask blogs I used to follow - please help me find you again!
