just finished playing the steam remake of "type help", "the incident at galley house", its soo goooood!!!
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR BOTH GAMES AHEAD IF YOU STILL WANNA PLAY EITHER STOP READING
though it is a shame some of the original depth/humor is lost in the style translation as the switch from command line prompt to visual novel loses the text commentary from @ so we dont get the jokes he makes
while there is a silly easter egg if you put in HE-L-P in the code saying to contact longley sadly there is no addition of the 00-dream files or any of the 00 files that @ left you, as they now come in the form of physical manual pages
i do like what the direction they went with by building upon what happened to longley and his death where the curse ended up spreading despite hobbes's futile attempt to stop it
though i suppose with how the guy was actually successful in erasing the disease by actually letting everyone who did know him die before he let the disease take him
the change in title screen with the house being burnt down after the ending was a really neat detail
i liked the foreshadowing of the hallucinations taking over the user if used for too long and i do really like the fluff they gave in the actual 00 scene they gave before everything went to shit
at first i thought it was a bit of an odd change to make it so the character we play as is an actually named character rather than ourselves like in the original but it was a neat touch considering the direction they went with
i really liked how certain oddities that happen through the players perspective such as the door randomly opening, the generator sometimes randomly fixing, etc. are subtle foreshadows to how the character we play as has the memory of the people who were actually present be erased from her memory
also funny little joke i made while i was playing through it lmao
(i really thought it wouldve been an obra dinn reference considering the inspiration of the game but lmao no its just the surnames are that common ig)
speaking of obra dinn i often imagined like obra dinn characters in place of the characters when i went through type help and giving faces to the characters in the remake made it more close-ended i suppose which is a shame like it was really funny how i thought john hobbes looked like henry evans, oswald looked like finley dalton, helen looking like emily jackson, etc.
well i suppose thats just something that comes with different medias of fiction like adaptations like say from novels. novels are simply text so even if the author writes a descriptive vision of how a character looks it still leaves room for interpretation from the reader as to how they imagine the character in their head as opposed to like a movie adaptation where they have to give a character a consistent look
anyways yapfest over i just wanted to get my thoughts out on somewhere on whatever platform puzzle game enthusiasts are active on so i opted for tumblr since more people here speak english as opposed to my twitter where i have my obra dinn account as a chinese speaking account where i rarely speak english so um
