I noticed that Davey's first and last name r very similar to John's, so I had a thought!
Maybe Davey was an orphan that was fascinated with him and the Obra Dinn, so he decided to hop on the boat with them! (No one noticed bc he was small and quiet for a kid)
Little Davey was only discovered when they were very far from their last port. John, not wanting to just abandon this kid at the next stop, took Davey under his wing and gave him a name!

I recently got the game on xbox and I've been having lots of fun! My favorite is Davey James, the 4th Mate's Steward! I colored him 4 fun and made his eyes a very soft beige, supposed to be slightly based off of sea water pearls
Also, I looked up the meaning of his name out of curiosity and!
He certainly lives up to it! :>
i think this song really fits davey james especially since the analysis i saw of how the way boku is spelled with hiragana implies the speaker is a child in different parts but is spelled in kanji at the beginning and at the end has the implication of their "god" that they want to meet again and return to but have to leave being their childhood but i suppose if its seen through the perspective of davey it could also fit as his perspective on john davies
