"Ah, Chihiro-san! Happy birthday! I apologise for being late... I hope you enjoy this!" Shuichi handed him a small box neatly wrapped in a bow, containing a wristband with his name's initials on it.

“Ooh!”

“Thank you, Shuichi. This is a lovely gift. I’ll be sure to return the favour when your birthday comes around.”

"Chihirooo~! Happy birthday!" Anzu skipped over to the programmer and gave him a present. "We were gonna throw you a birthday party, but, Masayoshi decided to do the cooking, and that... kinda messed up our plans."

“Ah, that’s... nice.” I’m afraid of the answer I’ll get if I ask for clarification...

“The problem with sharing a birthday with White Day is I’m never sure which type of present it is I’ve gotten.”

“All that you lack is the proper training, Fujisaki,” Tenko said, with a gentle smile. “Tenko knows first hand how valuable it is to have someone you can grow stronger with!”  “So that’s what you need to do next: Find that someone that you can help you grow! And if at all possible, Tenko could become that person for you!” At the end of that day, this was what Tenko tried to offer- strength for those that lacked it. 

“Wait, really?”

Chihiro was shocked at the sudden generosity. “But... why would you want to help me? I don’t have any strength, training with me wouldn’t benefit you at all...”

Not to mention I’m not sure I trust you with my secret. It’s easy to say the right thing when it’s not a situation that relates to you Chihiro thought sadly.

“It is one of Tenko’s beliefs that one should never deny their true emotions!” Tenko declared. “It is true that sometimes Tenko will say something that will hurt her friends, and Tenko will apologize.”  “However, Tenko will never apologize for her true emotions. And she doesn’t think anyone should every do that either. So while Tenko doesn’t understand why someone would want to be a guy, she will not stop them either.”

“That’s a respectable attitude” Chihiro said, trying to smile and failing.

“It’s certainly better than anything I’ve done. I have the best of intentions, but... I just lack conviction. I don’t have the strength to follow through on what I feel, because I worry about hurting people. I can’t even bring myself to swat a mosquito.”

“Why would you want to be good enough to be a man in the first place? Tenko would never want to be a man,” Tenko said intensely. “Girls are more amazing than men, any day of the week! Tenko is living proof that girls can be even fiercer, stronger, and able to fend off bullies than any guy!”  “That being said, Tenko cannot abide by bullying under any circumstances! So if Tenko could help someone suffering in that situation, she will!” Of course, Tenko didn’t know the effect her words could have. 

“Ah!”

well... that's painfully reminiscent of Sakura. Chihiro thought sadly to himself. It wasn’t as if he could fairly expect different, Tenko had made her views clear on the matter.

“It’s not so much the matter of male or female, it’s the issue of forcing someone to be someone they aren’t. If the victim felt like they should have been a girl from the start, then by all means, go ahead. But because he didn’t, it just feels...” Chihiro paused, not wanting to finish his thought.

“If I had taken better care of the Neo World program code, the mastermind wouldn’t have been able to use it on you like that...”

That was an interesting scenario that Chihiro had brought up. Tenko found herself thinking harder than she ever had before. “In that situation, the threat would clearly be the bullies! As for the boy, it sounds like his life became easier once her became a girl.”  “So perhaps, the boy should became a girl permanently! That way, life will stay just as good for them!” In Tenko’s mind, that was the ideal solution. She did encourage other guys to also become girls in the past. 

Well, that’s not entirely unexpected Chihiro thought. But she’s also simplifying the problem a bit too much.

“Isn’t that demeaning to girls, though? I agree the boy isn’t at fault, but he didn’t dress that way because he felt like he should have been a girl, it was to avoid conflict. And doesn’t it also reaffirm the bullies statement you aren’t good enough to be a man. I don’t think that’s what you’re intending, but I feel like that’s what the victim would feel if you say to them Just stay as a girl.”

Chihiro blinked, then broke eye contact with Tenko. “I’m sorry… I just… I read about this sort of thing happening a lot online” he lied.

“But Tenko doesn’t understand what other reasons there might be for a guy to dress as a girl other than those two,” Tenko said, genuinely confused by this point. “If there are any other reasons, Tenko would like to know. So she can see I it can be considered a threat!”

This is not a good idea Chihiro chastened himself, before speaking.

“... well, how about this? A frail, sickly boy that’s constantly teased and bullied for not having the strength that’s associated with being male. The bullying intensifies to the point he simply dresses up as a girl to avoid the prejudice.”

“Do you think someone like that is a threat?” Chihiro’s last words were calm, but there was an accusatory implication behind them.

“Tenko isn’t sure how she feels about those scenarios,” Tenko said, giving them serious consideration. “Those are good intentions, but Tenko is not sure she can approve of that kind of deception!”

“I’m just saying that making snap judgements on someone based on their actions without seeing their reasons isn’t fair.”

“If someone’s using it for dirty reasons, then by all means, call them out on it. But lumping anyone like that into two categories...” Chihiro stopped. It was actually the entirety of how computers worked, so perhaps he wasn’t the best choice to try and convince Tenko otherwise.

“Neither? What do you mean by neither?” Tenko asked the girl that approached her.

“Well, there’s a lot of reasons for a boy to dress as a girl, and not neccesarily because they want to be a girl, or for perverted reasons.”

“What if he just wanted to wear a dress? Or he wanted to pretend to be his girlfriend’s bestie so he could secretly ask her what would be the perfect birthday present for her?”
