“Yeah some realms are interesting, but most just reflect how simple the killers are that live in them.” He laughed, thinking about the endless cornfield on the farm. “I think he mostly got books but I usually visit him to steal some drugs from him. Not sure if he knows or not. If ya want to we can go ask him if ya can read some of his books.”
“Nah, he’s friendly. Only bites if ya hurt him. His name’s Maurice.”
“Sometimes you have to go for bad to avoid worst, you know?” he snorted. “It would be nauseating if I wasn’t so used to it at this point… I’ve had to carry buckets of manure and even had to carry it in his backpack sometimes! It was gross! But at least he could clean everything without risk once that piece of moon landed in the sea.” He never knew when to stay quiet, specially when he was excited because of the presence of another smart guy.
“But I might have to decline your offer though. You’re not roping me into being kidnapped a third time, specially if I don’t know whether I can actually die or not!”
“I can try to ask him, but I don’t know if he will want to. Last time we seemed to be just fine and he went into the murder zone suddenly. I mean, my bad. He did tell me he was the killer,” he shrugged. “Stupid me stayed still for a moment.”
While the Clown talked, he scritched the horse’s snout between his eyes before moving back. “Maurice. Nice. I used to have a pet too! Uh… a special one. Brown and fluffy.” How did someone explain Chester to someone else?
“Wait, you’re telling me you go into his realm without him noticing? Can you take me?” He could steal his books. He prob wouldn’t realize they were gone since he had so many of them.
Avoid the worst by choosing bad… “That’s how I ended up here.” he laughed. And once again Wilson showed that he has been through some shit. “Hold up. A piece of the moon landed in the sea? How’s that work?” He completely forgot about the manure thing after hearing that. “Ya mean like a meteor?”
“What if I knock ya out and force ya?” he chuckled. If he really wanted to, he could just do that right on the spot but he like the guy. “I’m jokin’. Not gonna hurt ya.”
“I think he enjoys talking to people. But if ya pull the wrong wires he’s split ya head open… I could try to protect ya, he’s not as strong as he seems.”
When Wilson moved back, Maurice moved his head after him. “Think he likes ya.” Kenneth stepped closer to his horse, continuing to give him some scritches. “So like.. a dog? Tell me more ‘bout him.” Sure he had killed a few dogs back in their old world but he always had a soft spot for animals.
“Usually he doesn’t notice, too caught up in his books and notes. So as long as we don’t make too much noise, we should be fine!” Just now he realized that Wilson wanted to go into his office. “I can take ya but he’s gonna get pissed if ya first sneak around and then interrupt him. Only chance ya have if he’s in his own room or in a trial.” This was going to be suicide mission. Time to actually start praying.
“Well, uh... I don’t know. And I mean an actual piece of moon. I was just as surprised as you are, but it made it easier for us to get food.” He was pretty sure that bad stuff would happen to Earth if that happened in the normal world, but being where he was it didn’t really matter.
“If you knock me out then I have no choice, but I’d greatly appreciate if you didn’t do that, sir,” he gave him a weird look. Right, murderers probably joked around in that way. He was not used to that.
“Chester, Chester... uh... imagine a fluffy ball with four tiny legs and a gigantic mouth at the top. He could carry my stuff around inside him, and his eyes? He had one that was attached to a bone I had to carry for him to follow me. I know, I know, unbelievable, but it did exist. If I ever find ink and paper, I can draw him for you.” Wilson gestured the shapes as he talked about the ‘animal’, knowing it sounded stupid, but it was his reality.
“No problem! We won’t interrupt him, I didn’t really plan on talking to him... he just has a bunch of weird things in his place that I want to investigate. I’ve seen cables, a LOT of them, but I don’t know what they’re supposed to do? That strange machinery in that room in the middle and those boxes with moving images are so strange...”. If only he’d got to live in the real world for a few more years, he’d understand a few things more about everything. “How comes you’re not one of the Doctor’s acquaintances? You could learn so much from each other. I’ve learned a few things from the survivors back at our campfire.”
