Monty Oum was a dear friend to me. More than a dear friend, he was an older brother to me for 6 years. I am so saddened by his passing, and I want to help in any way I can with his medical expenses. I put my Weiss sword made by Junkers Cosplay Inc. signed by Monty Oum and Kara Eberle up for auction. All proceeds will go towards Monty and Sheena's Gofundme. Please spread the word and share the auction!

This auction is for a replica of Weiss Schnee's rapier “Myrtenaster” signed by Monty Oum and the voice actress for Weiss, Kara Eberle. It is based off of the original concept art when the slots to hold Dust were all red instead of rainbow. It’s in like new condition having only been used for cosplay on three separate occasions. There is a little bit of worn off paint on the end of the blade, as pictured.
Length: 44.5 in (Hilt approx. 15 in, Blade 29.5 in)
Width of Blade: Approx. ¾ in
There is a story that goes behind this prop and it is a very special item to me. In 2012 when RWBY was still in development, Monty showed me the character designs for the main characters and said I’d make a great Weiss if I chose to cosplay her. He emailed me the reference art and I went ahead and asked Johnny of Junker’s Cosplay if he could make Myrtenaster. I didn’t tell him any details of the show so he had made it for me blindly at the time.
If you’re interested in how the sword was made (with lots of photos!), you can read Johnny’s write up here: http://junkerscosplay.blogspot.com/2013/07/rwby-weiss-schnee-sdcc-2013.html. Johnny’s involvement with creating Myrtenaster later lead to his getting hired to create all the official weapons for Ruby, Blake and Yang for San Diego Comic Con 2013. If you have any inquiries for prop commissions, you can message him over onhttps://www.facebook.com/JunkersCosplay as well.
Fast forward to summer 2013: Monty contacted my friends and I and asked if we would like to be the official RWBY cosplayers to promote the series premiere at San Diego Comic Con! It was a last minute request with less than 2 weeks to make the costumes, but Monty had always believed in his friends and knew that we would be able to pull it off. In the end, we all did and had a great time! You can see the official sword (and the girls!) in action in the RT Recap: http://youtu.be/PL33lzt3GGs and in the behind the scenes cosplay video by Rooster Teeth: http://youtu.be/9wCBvBfCwyg
Monty wasn’t able to make it to SDCC that year, so we re-wore our costumes again at Anime Los Angeles in January 2014. He loved our work and signed our costumes. On my sword, he signed it with both his symbol and his full name below Kara’s signature. This meant a lot to me, because he doesn’t usually sign his name. This is rare.
My entire costume is priceless to me. Because of Monty’s encouragement, I was able to bring Weiss to life and make many new friends thanks to him and his show RWBY. Parting with my Myrtenaster was a tough decision, but I want to help Monty’s family and Sheena in any way I can. I hope to raise some money to be able to help with his medical expenses. And I hope that whoever wins this sword will take great care of it!
To the winning bidder, if you would also like me (https://www.facebook.com/sushimonstuhcosplay) or Johnny to sign it, please message me and let me know!
