Gotta give it to Elvis, this pose is one of the poses of all time
Elvis, Barbara McNair and "Suspicious Minds"
Las Vegas, 1969.
Barbara McNair went to see Elvis in Las Vegas in 1969, which is something to expect considering they made a movie together previously that same year. However, I never read anything about this until now and I'm so excited! Here's what is written on the FTD book "Change Of Habit":
For those who believe there are no more revelations to discover in these shows, I can easily pull one example of many from this release alone. For over 40 years now, Elvis fans have listened to the 1969 compilation Elvis In Person. How many ever realized that Elvis dedicated the specific performance of 'Suspicious Minds' contained on that album to Barbara McNair, one of his Change Of Habit co-stars? Elvis evidently thought a lot of McNair, who played Sister Irene, for he plugged her upcoming TV series, The Barbara McNair Show, when presenting her to the audience. As mentioned, Elvis' introduction of the familiar version of 'Suspicious Minds' is now slightly different: "A new record that just came out, ladies and gentlemen - I hope you like it. I'd like to do this especially for Barbie. It's called 'Suspicious Minds'."
The video below is a track from the FTD album "Elvis In Person At The International Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada" - a split-up of the 1969 double-album "From Vegas To Memphis/From Memphis To Vegas", released in 1970. The "Suspicious Minds" live recording from 1969 is without the introduction and dedication of the song to Barbara. You may read an article about the FTD "Elvis: Live In Las Vegas August 26, 1969 Dinner Show" CD HERE. That's where the soundboard recording in its full context relies. Unfortunately I haven't found it online yet, but it's nice to know it was released anyway.
According to the FTD book, those are Elvis' words introducing Barbara to the audience:
After introducing the band, Elvis has Barbara McNair stand and he introduces her as "a young lady that I just got through making a picture with called Change Of Habit, and I found her to be one of the nicest, warmest, lovingest people I've ever met." When audience members complain they could not see her, he has the lights turned back on so she can stand up again.
This jacket has pants that go with it! I NEED a picture of him in those pants! Do u think he actually wore them?
In my mind, dear, E tried to wear those pants with the jacket, yes, but his friends did tease him so bad about it - because c'mon… it's a really colorful fringe jacket already... with matching pants it must have looked too much, and we all know how the 70s were, with fragile masculinity and all... - So, I imagine Elvis' friends had many comments about that look. And then he gave up wearing the piece together. Now, he might have worn just the pants without the jacket, tho.
I can be sadly mistaken in all of this, since we know Elvis was all about impressing people with his wardrobe, but my way of thinking is based on another situation that I've heard from Billy Smith on his Youtube channel recently. Billy shared a story about a horse Elvis had. According to Billy, the horse wasn't as big as others they had in the property (I believe it was during the Circle G ranch period), and Elvis looked kinda funny riding the horse. Billy picked on E, saying he looked like he was riding a pony. After that, Elvis gave him the horse and bought another one, bigger
