I was quite scared of my birthday coming up, but with so many precious birthday wishes I couldn't be more grateful. I appreciate that I got to meet so many nice and wonderful people this year, you people made this year much better than how it was initially going.
I've learnt a lot from all of you, I'm glad I got to live another full year and now that I think about it, I'm quite happy this year, which is a stark contrast to how I felt at the start of it.

I feel very grateful that people seem to be not only getting different results, but liking them. I'm not proud of how I wrote some results, I tried to keep some neutralities so in case someone got a non accurate result, they'd see a bit or two that they would relate to.🏃

But I feel like a lot of people in the nin community find that they relate to a lyric or a song in a way that opens their wounds because of how relatable it is, but the way that makes you feel less alone. At least that's the way I feel, so I'm sorry if I'm projecting 🥲 but I think that's what binds us all in this community, collective loneliness, like I mentioned in the "long hair Trent" one.

OK, I'm making my way through the personality test/“NIN survey” requests and asks, but I'm going to let this one jump the line. It was made by my dear friend suvirintojas, otherwise known on TikTok as surviving tortillas, because no one can remember or pronounce the username or knows what it means. (i do, but i asked.)
here we go. what PHM era Trent am I within the larger PHM Trent timeline?
i thought i'd screenshot a few of the questions and my answers because i thought it was a cute and thoughtful quiz.
i'm not an artist, per se, but i consider myself a writer, and when i write, i want to do all these things, so it was hard to pick one. sometimes i hope they relate, often i don't. i'd like to make people think, but if i could only do one thing, i guess it would be "make them feel something."
these are probably my two favorite lyrics on the album, and the full list had several lyrics that were meaningful to me. interestingly, these were the only two songs i initially liked off phm. that changed over time, obviously. the first lyric i think has an interesting duality. i don't know if it's just in my mind or if it's on purpose, but to me it is both religious and sexual, which is probably why it's such an important song for me, despite also just kicking ass. i'd like to write about it one day, when i have more time. but i also think it's very interesting as a religious lyric, because i don't like the idea of a God that seems gleeful about or eager to give anyone what they 'deserve,' or making anyone feel they should bow down to something. we're all just human and i don't think anyone deserves bad things, nor do i think we should be compelled to serve anything, especially if we were just kind of... brought here against our will, if we are to understand how God works according to most religious texts, at least in the Abrahamic tradition. this lyric also isn't necessarily inherently sinister, i guess, but i hear it that way and i read it like that. perhaps that says something about me, that i assume it means punishment and i assume it comes from a place of ill-will.
but ultimately, the song that speaks to me most is Terrible Lie. probably for the same reasons.
hahaha. my real order is PHM >>> TDS >>> with teeth >>> broken >>> pib >>> the fragile, if i had to put them in order. fragile used to be my favorite, but i've just lost interest in it sonically, but now and then i return to it. broken at one time was also my obsession, and TDS was probably the first album i really connected with, and may even ultimately be my favorite, lyrically and sonically. but PHM is just so special to me for many reasons that i can't go into now, because we'd be here forever. but i will say that it's when i'm attracted to trent the most, for sure, but i'm just very sentimental about something being nascent and new. i guess that's why i'm always very nostalgic for childhood and purity and innocence, even if, when i think back at it, my childhood wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, and i don't know how my mind can be simultaneously so pure and impure.
i was just talking to someone last night about some of his early PHM photos. even before he was anyone and before there were any reviews or acclaim, he looks so confident. i said his gaze makes me feel like he thought "i deserve to have my picture taken." like he knew what he had to offer was special, and he was just waiting for the world to recognize it, too. i relate to that, and think it's just generally very sweet and ultimately, pure.
i don't know what this means and i'm not going to look it up. but i almost never want to be the doer, i like the thing to be done, though we are probably thinking of different things, because you are pure and sweet, and that's something i love about you.
this is difficult, but your ability to articulate these categories is another reason i love you. like i said earlier, i want to accomplish all these things. but ultimately, the first option -- beauty / appreciation / memory. unfortunately, sometimes people say i've made them sad or concerned. i don't mind those comments, but that wasn't necessarily my intention. all i can do is write and create things from a place of honesty and truth. but memory is also very important to me. it's also a whole academic discipline -- Memory Studies -- and usually has to do with war and change and loss--cultural and societal shifts, like the fall of the Soviet Union, for example. that's where i first encountered it.
there's of course 'memory studies' in terms of like, actual neuroscience, but in the humanities it's quite different. there's even a journal called Memory Studies, and I'll let the description complete my answer: "covers the social, cultural ... shifts affecting how, what and why individuals, groups and societies remember and forget." sometimes this is about control and oppression, like when a colonizer forces a language upon the colonized, for example. which is always why i think it's quite funny when other Latinos tease me or worse for not speaking Spanish that well. like, sure, it helps you connect with your heritage and it's memory, but why not some indigenous language? do you know an indigenous language? no? then shut up. one of my formative memories is being outside of church on a sunday and two older ladies asking me something in spanish, and when i couldn't respond in spanish, even though i understood, they said "your mother should be ashamed. you should be ashamed." i'll never forget it. i was like, 12.

one of my favorite authors, Vladimir Nabokov wrote an autobiography called Speak, Memory. it's original title, though, was Conclusive Evidence. as in, conclusive evidence that he was here and alive. i guess this is why i like to remember, and why i write, and why i post things i care about -- because i'm scared to forget, and because i want there to be some kind of record that i was here and that i was alive, and this is what mattered to me and what my life looked like. and i guess the same thing for NIN and trent. i hope someday it'll be more than just some random blog on the internet, but just in case it's not, here's a my little record of existence.

i had a boyfriend in college who had an ouroboro tattoed on his neck. i told you about him the other day. he was the only blond i ever was attracted to, or one of the very few. he had eyes like blue ice, and he was very beautiful. but i regret i no longer have pictures of him, and when i look him up just to refresh my memory, i can't find him, because he shares a name with a professional baseball player who just so happens to play in his hometown, and the name is otherwise kind of generic. it made me sad to think that even if i wanted to, i couldn't find him online and i'd never see his face again. anyway, enough about that. i also want to hug every person in the world and do something that matters, and i also think about the themes of loss of self worth in the downward spiral. but ultimately i chose:

this is my very favorite photo, "of trent or anything," as i once told you, and you've cropped it so beautifully. we once had a whole convo about this shirt and it has to do with what i said earlier. it's a teeny tiny little logo -- a logo that never changed despite how pretty much literally everything else changed -- and reveals, at least in my mind, how much conviction he had in himself and Nine Inch Nails, even before it meant anything to anyone but him.
another hard one. they are wonderful in their own ways. i think down in it is criminally underrepresented on tiktok. it's so technicolor and fun. and sin is obviously so beautiful, but i understand why it's not really prominent on tiktok, lol. but if i had to chose, HLAH. i love all the colors and the energy. i think it's the most angry, and i am very angry, even if i am, i think, ultimately pretty nice.
team shaved sides. i love the shaved sides. i think they were so lovely and i don't really know why. what's lovely about hair arbitrarily being shaved to the scalp in some random pattern? idk. i just like it. i suppose there doesn't have to be a reason.
oh no! i seem to have screenshot this at "go back to making videos," but i meant "straight fire." but jokes aside, your videos are so beautiful and moving, and they are my favorite on tiktok. i wish you'd post them here, and maybe one day you will, as you've said. one of them made me weep, and i remember the first one i ever saw. it was love at first sight! not with just the video, but with you -- it revealed something about you, and i knew i wanted to know more about who you were. the "algorithm," as i write about frequently, is often cruel and arbitrary and stupid, but it led me to you, and for that i am thankful.
these days i need a lot of distractions. i don't like being "at rest," mentally. i told someone once about a children's game i played called "the floor is lava." you have to jump from thing to thing on the floor and not touch the actual ground, or else you'll sink in the lava. it's kind of like that.
