Once the first layer of sheet metal was in we could work on the floor. The base plate is 3/8” and the rest of the floor is 1/8” mounted on a supporting frame. All the steel is scrap from assorted past projects and needed to be cleaned up and shaped to fit. Our camper van doesn’t have a built in generator and there isn’t a good spot to store one inside. The solution was to build a custom trailer hitch rack. We had plenty of leftover steel and even had several extra removable hitches. So a few days of welding and a few days of painting and voila. We pulled out our holding tank last year to do the metal work under the galley floor. Laura scored the “shitty” job of cleaning out the last of the mess left inside. Thankfully it had been sitting long enough to basically just be compost rather than poop. Either way she is a rockstar!!! One of the things we did over the last few months was some prep to upgrade our electrical system. Our old AGM bank is shot so it’s time to replace it. We have decided to bite the bullet and go from 6 to 8 group 31 batteries. That means we needed to make the battery rack bigger to accommodate to two extra batteries.
